Chapter 1: Hogwarts Reunion

12 years later

Kimberly Granger stood at the helm of the Maelstrom, watching as Hogwarts came into view. Along with it of course came the deep chill of the dementors the Ministry placed around the castle. Her fist clenched around the wheel of her ship. She hated these damn things. Why the Ministry of Magic thought placing these demons around a bloody school was beyond her. She shook her head. She was here for one reason. Protecting Harry Potter. She set the ship down in the Black Lake and headed for the castle.

She eventually came to the Headmaster's office, the castle was a maze of corridors and moving staircases, and presented her WEATHER Protectorate badge to the gargoyle at the entrance. The Headmaster seemed startled that she was able to get into his office.

"Who are you and what are you doing in my school?" A demand spoken in an icy tone. Kim responded in kind.

"Who I am isn't important, but what is important is why I'm in your school. I'm here to do my duty under Section 7 of the Treaty of 1637 and reporting the fact that I am here on an official mission from the WEATHER. That mission is, first and foremost, to ensure the safety of one Harry Potter."

"Harry Potter is perfectly safe-"

"Was he safe in his first year when one of his professors was possessed by Voldemort? Was he safe last year when a bloody sixty foot basilisk was roaming the halls of this school? He has an escaped mass murderer after him now Headmaster, a mass murderer who was arrested solely due to Harry's miraculous survival, and you'll forgive me if I don't think you and your staff are quite up to the task of protecting him." Watching the good professor sputter and squirm in the face of her arguments was always going to be a joy.

"Now, as I have informed you of my mission and intent, as required by Section 7, I bid you goodnight and will now go speak to my ward. Goodnight Headmaster Dumbledore." With her obligation fulfilled, she turned on her heel and left the Headmaster still sputtering at his desk in shock

Harry was sitting in the common room listening to Ron and Hermione bickering about homework, again, when the stranger came in the room. She was dressed oddly, not odd in the way most wizards (especially wizards trying to blend into the muggle world) dressed, but more like an assassin searching for her target. The strangest part about her though wasn't her clothes, but her face. She looked exactly like Hermione. The only differences were the scar on her face and the cold, analytical nature of her eyes.

Turning to Hermione, (who was still in heated debate with Ron, neither noticed the stranger come in) Harry decided to risk her wrath and tried to get her attention.

"Hermione?" No response. A bit more forceful the next time. "Hermione?"

"WHAT Harry?" Yep, he was definitely pushing his luck here.

"You wouldn't happen to have a twin or clone or something would you?" She stiffened at this.

"Wh-why would you think something like-" She gasped as she finally noticed the stranger, who had made her way to where we were sitting. Hermione stood shakily, one hand over her mouth.

"K-Kimmy? Is that really you?" The stranger's eyes softened and she smiled.

"Yeah 'Mione, it's me. Although it is really good to finally see you again, I'm actually here for something else." She looked right at Harry. "You're Harry Potter correct?" He nodded and groaned inwardly. Just what he needed, another bloody BWL groupie. "Excellent. My name is Agent Kimberly Renee Granger of the WEATHER, but you can call me Kim. I'm here to ensure your safety for the foreseeable future, as you have a nasty habit of getting into trouble, and your professors have a nasty habit of not getting you out of it. Do you have any objections?"

Harry stared in shock. Not a groupie, but someone who was genuinely concerned about his safety. Not something he was used to really. Looking at Hermione, he could see the pleading look in her eyes. She obviously knew who this was, and clearly wanted Harry to accept so she could stay. "No, I have no objections. Why were you sent specifically for me?"

"Well, my superiors had noticed a disturbing pattern of your professors doing basically nothing to keep you or your friends safe, and since I had a sister, Hermione, already at Hogwarts and quite friendly with you, they decided I was the best choice. So now I'm here, first and foremost to ensure your safety, and if possible apprehend Sirius Black." Ron decided to speak up at this.

"Ministry's got a kiss on sight order on him. If you catch him he needs to be handed to them." Kim scoffed at this.

"Turn him over to the Ministry without so much as questioning him on how exactly he managed to escape the most secure prison in Britain? I think not. He'll be questioned before he goes anywhere near a Ministry representative if he's caught by me." Ron looked outraged.

"Do you honestly think you're above the Ministry or Professor Dumbledore?" Harry interrupted before things could get to a full-scale row between the two of them. It appears that Hermione and her sister shared the trait of having little to no patience with Ron, which didn't bode well for his continuing sanity.

"Ron, just drop it for now, let's head up to the dorm and play chess while Hermione helps get Kim settled in." Ron nodded and went up to their dorm. Harry turned as he went up behind and both Grangers mouthed a quick 'thank you' to him. He nodded and went into his dorm.

After the boys went up to their dorm, Hermione and Kim sat alone in the common room. Kim took off some of her gear, including a deep blue coat decorated with runes that piqued Hermione's interest.

"Hey Kim? What are those runes all over your jacket for?"

Kim smiled sadly and looked down at her coat. "This is something I inherited a couple years ago from my mentor, Kellend. The runes do just about everything you could ask for, from warming and cooling to protecting me from nearly anything short of an Unforgivable."

"Unforgivable?"

Kim rolled her eyes. "I always forget the Ministry doesn't let you learn about those until later in your schooling. The Unforgivables are three curses that earn you life in Azkaban because of the way they manipulate the soul and mind. There's the Imperious, which puts the victim completely under the caster's control, the Cruciatus, which causes every nerve ending in your body to send pain signals to your brain, and the Killing Curse, which, well, kills the victim. They go through magical shields too, which is why my coat is pretty much useless for stopping them."

"Why doesn't the Ministry want us to know about them?" Kim looked annoyed at this.

"Why does the Ministry do anything? Why did they put dementors around the castle? Why was Hagrid thrown into Azkaban over the Chamber of Secrets incident? The current Minister is, to put it quite bluntly, a small-minded idiot."

"Kim!"

"Hermione, it's the truth. One of my superiors, the WEATHER's representative in the Ministry, was quite angry that the Minister was placing creatures that can suck out your soul in an area filled with hundreds of schoolchildren. He went to the Minister about this, and the response given was 'Sirius Black has escaped Azkaban, we have to be seen doing something to protect The-Boy-Who-Lived!' That exchange was what led to me being placed on my current assignment. But that doesn't change the fact that you and all of your schoolmates are being put at risk solely because the Minister wants to be seen doing something. You tell me if that makes him a small-minded idiot or not."

Hermione's mouth dropped open in shock, her worship of authority figures crashing down in a ball of flames. She shook her head. Now wasn't the time for an existential crisis. She had 12 years of life to catch up with her sister on. "So where've you been the last 12 years?" Kim sighed and looked down.

"You remember the day I disappeared right?" Hermione nodded. "Gran wasn't killed by a muggle with a gun. She was killed by Death Eaters." Hermione gasped at that. "Those Death Eaters then took me to Voldemort, where I was tortured and about to be killed when Harry vanquished Voldemort. My mentor, Kellend, was then able to fight the Death Eaters in the hideout that I was held in and rescued me. He raised me up until 2 years ago, when he was killed by rogue dementors." When Kim looked back up, Hermione noticed she was crying and engulfed her sister in a tight hug. Kim clung to her like her life depended on it and sobbed into her shoulder.

After a few minutes, Kim's sobs slowed to a stop. She gently disentangled herself from Hermione and wiped her eyes.

"Thanks sis, I really needed that. I haven't really had the chance to come to terms with what happened to him over the past two years. It's hard to believe he's gone honestly." She took a shaky breath and stood. "It's about time for you to head up to the dorm, it's getting late."

"Aren't you coming with me?"

"I will, after I do a sweep of the school to make sure Black isn't hiding anywhere in the building."

"Alright, but don't be too long, you need rest just as much as I do." Kim smiled warmly.

"Of course sis. Thanks for looking out for me." Hermione nodded as Kim grabbed her coat and headed for the portrait hole.

"I spent 12 years waiting for you to come back, I'll always look out for you." Kim smiled brightly at this, and headed out to begin her patrol.

First chapter out of the way, next one should be following within the next few days. This story isn't gonna be super action packed (mostly because I suck at writing action), this is definitely more of a slow burn. Next chapter will be Luna's introduction to this story, and that'll round out the four main characters of this story. Thanks for reading!
