Madison woke with a start as her alarm buzzed, and it seemed to have been buzzing for quite a few minutes. Turning it off and looking at the time she cursed at herself and rushed to her bathroom to quickly brush her teeth and get ready. She was only a few minutes behind schedule, but those few minutes she liked to use to take her time as she made her way to school. After brushing what she could of her hair she decided to just throw it up into a messy ponytail and would fix it better once she was on her way. She decided to dress a little nicer today by putting on a slightly less ripped pair of jeans and an unwrinkled tank top with a plaid button up tied around her waist in case she got cold, but still the same dirty pair of converse. Grabbing her backpack and phone she bounded down the stairs.
Her dad was already in the kitchen waiting for her with a piece of toast. Madison was never much of a breakfast person, especially when it felt too early in the morning so toast was the normal go to unless she felt adventurous and would carry a small bag of dry cereal to eat. Lucky charms was always a guilty pleasure of hers.
"Morning dad, sorry in a rush. Working today?" She asked as she grabbed the toast taking a bite, giving him a quick peck on his cheek, and then making her way to the door.
"Nope day off so gonna do some cleaning. Which means I want your room cleaned as well this weekend please!" He shouted after her to make sure she heard him. Yelling out a short 'Gotcha!' she was out the door and on her way. Using the time until she reached school she pulled out her phone and checked for any messages. Seeing nothing from Carmen was really starting to worry her, it showed she hasn't even read the message yet. Did she lose her phone? Shaking her head to stop herself from freaking out like she is easily known to do she decided to tell herself that she just had her phone taken away again. Wouldn't be the first time, or the fifth.
She let out a groan as she realized she didn't plug her phone in to charge last night so she made a mental note to try and only check it every so often to keep the battery alive as long as possible. She decided to turn it off for now and would check it after her first class.
Pulling out her ponytail she raked her hands through her hair to make it a little nicer before retying it and pulling at her tail to make the hair tie more tight and secure. Looking around she finally noticed that the morning was a little more foggy than usual and gave her an eerie feeling as she continued down the street. Not too many cars passing by either like there normally was. But foggy days weren't always too bad, in fact it always made for a nice picture when the sun would peek through the clouds and could see the rays shining which made her smile.
As she entered the halls once again she made her usual routine of stopping by her locker, grabbing or depositing whatever she did and didn't need and making her way to class. As soon as she closed her locker and turned around she was met with none other than Scott which made her step back in surprise. He gave a small smile in apology.
"Sorry. H-how are you?" He asked adjusting his bag on his shoulder. She gave a skeptical look not sure why he was being so friendly all of a sudden, he surely never bothered to give her the time of day once they got to highschool.
Crossing her arms she raised a brow. "Fine I suppose." Her short answer made Scott deflate with a sigh, this wasn't going to be easy for him it seemed.
"Ok well I'll just get to the point then. Look about yesterday after school, I just wanted to know if you heard anything me and Isaac were talking about." He asked nervously. Scott always did his best to try and keep the wolf business as secret as possible, and felt stupid that he didn't realize she was at her locker when they started talking about Derek and the Alpha's.
Madison was caught off guard with the question. She didn't forget that easy that she had been caught trying to eavesdrop on their private conversation, and it seems he didn't either. Dropping her arms back to her side she gave a small shake of her head. "No, you'll be happy to know I never heard a single word."
"Oh ok..cool." He nodded feeling the sting of awkwardness fill the air around them. "Well that's it then, I guess. Thanks."
Nodding back at him she started to walk away but was stopped again when he called after her. "Madison hey..I uh." She started to grow impatient as she waited for him to say what he needed to say.
"Look I just want to say that I'm sorry. You know for what happened between us." He watched her, his expression matching his words.
"Sorry Scott but there's no us. It's whatever happened to you." She replied a little too harshly. But she wasn't going to take it back now.
He hung his head in shame. "I know. Alot changed when we got here, I changed. Too many things to be able to explain and I know that's no excuse for me."
"Your right it isn't." She cut in- "See you around Scott." She ended the conversation having the moment of opportunity and just in time as the bell rang and she took off for class.
Madison felt her mood slip right down the drain as she took her seat, not even the thought of it being Friday and having the weekend could cheer her up at the moment. So instead of letting herself drown in her thoughts she decided to try and actually pay attention to her classes today. She was the model student, taking notes and even raised her hand to answer a question. Her second class went just about the same when halfway through she realized something was off. Looking around she found herself making eye contact with Stiles and froze for a good second before quickly going back to the lesson. When was Stiles ever in this class with her? Or did she just never notice until now because she never bothered to look at anyone in her classes anyways. She avoided looking his way again in case he continued to be looking at her. The strange thing she thought about was why he was already staring at her when she saw him. She wouldn't question it too much because of what she knew, Stiles was always a bit strange and off.
Not wanting to deal with Harris and the others in her next class she decided to fake feeling ill and sat at the nurse for the next hour until it was finally lunch time. The only downside would be dealing with him on Monday when she gets interrogated about not showing up. Harris always enjoyed torturing his students for some reason.
Making her way to the cafeteria she decided to have a slice of pizza today, grabbed a box of juice and some carrot sticks-one of the few vegetables she liked- and headed to her regular lunch spot, the field. It was nice enough for her, not too many people hung around over there besides the few lacrosse jocks that liked to practice instead of eating or spending the time to just hang out. And there were always a few random people to show up and sit on the bleachers. Taking a spot on the grass a little ways away from the bleachers she finally let herself enjoy a nice moment outside. Finishing her pizza and juice she layed back, closed her eyes and bathed in the fresh air.
Her peaceful moment was short lived. It wasn't long until she heard footsteps approach her and peeking open one eye she saw a tall boy standing over her. Isaac.
"This spot taken?" He asked gently.
Opening both eyes now she shrugged finally sitting up, "Looks like it to me. Go for it."
He game a gently smile as he got down and sat across from her, watching her with soft eyes. "Your Madison right?"
"I hope I am, otherwise my dad has alot of explaining to do." She replied getting a laugh from him as she picked a few pieces of grass out of her hair.
"I'm Isaac by the way." He reached out his hand expecting her to return the gesture. She just gave a glance at him before looking away again. "I know who you are Isaac, we had English together last year."
His face dropped a bit at his lack of remembrance and dropping his hand back to his side. "Oh, sorry. Guess I didn't pay enough attention in my classes."
She only shrugged, waiting for him to reveal the reason for his presence. It wouldn't be the first time someone randomly showed up and talked to her without wanting something.
"Scott's told me a little bit about you."
This time her interest was peaked. Raising an inquisitive brow she turned her full attention to him now. "Oh really. And tell me, exactly what has he told you?"
"Not a whole bunch." He said plucking a nearby dandelion, twirling it around in his fingers. "Just that you two used to be pretty good friends back then."
"Yea well you should ask him what happened then because I've been left in the dark since then." She said not wanting to think about the past.
"Or.." He started giving a shy glance. "You could tell me more about you?" The question caught her way off guard and she stared at him dumbfounded.
Quickly she shook her head feeling like she was sensing a pattern. "Wait wait wait this is because of yesterday isn't it. Your just trying to interrogate me like Scott did earlier." She stood up feeling humiliated and stupid.
He was quick to go after her. "No no I promise! I really want to get to know you." He stood in front of her to stop her and explain himself.
"Yes I admit, when I first saw you the other day I was curious. But I really would like to get to know you. Believe it or not I know how it feels to be invisible in the world and not have anyone to really turn to." He explained almost tripping over a few of his words. He offered her the dandelion he was holding still as a peace offering.
Madison couldn't do anything but listen and let her thoughts go all over inside her brain. Was she really going to believe this? Could she even think of trusting him? She must have stood there for quite some time looking stupid as she mulled over the possibilities in her head. Coming to a conclusion she sighed and reached into her backpack for a piece of paper and quickly scribbled on it. If she was going to take this leap of faith, she was going to take it slow and steady.
When she was done she handed him the paper, "I suppose I can give you a trial run." She gave a small smile, taking his offering and took her leave knowing the bell would ring any minute. Isaac looked down and saw that she had wrote her number down. He smiled to himself as he watched her walk off.
Madison sure wished she could talk to Carmen about what she's missed, but knew she'd give her an earful first about how to properly respond when crazy stuff like this was happening. And about how much more was going to happen in the coming days.
