"Are you going to tell me how long I have to stay with a total stranger?" I ask my aunt once I see a familiar light yellow farmhouse come into view. I could not stay on the Kent farm with the family. I cited them as my second family but, would they be so welcoming? I didn't exactly have a beautiful relationship with Clark.
Sure, we were friends but, I always got a strong inkling that the farm boy has been hiding something from me.
Brigid turns the engine off in the driveway, slightly facing me. "So, you're really going to ignore what I just told you?"
I'm quick to form a response. "I can't accept that I may be half vampire. Why, you may ask? Oh because, I've never held the craving for blood or wanting something that bad. If I choose to not-"
Bri cuts me off in a flash. "JULES! There will come a time where you can't ignore the bloodlust. One day, you will make the transition into wanting it. So, are you ready for the plan?"
I wince at her loud tone. Did she have to scream my name to gain my attention? No, it's simple. I wonder what the plan is until I cave. "What's this plan of yours?"
"We go in this house but, you can't let them know I'm your aunt. Someone murdered your mother for a reason and, right now, this is the best option for us both. Okay?"
I arch an eyebrow at my crazy aunt. I didn't have anything left to lose. Why was this being done to me, and not somebody else? I didn't even have any packed clothes with me as I shot her a glare for not having enough time. I sigh, calming down while coming to a conclusion that no one seemed to be out, and about which was unusual on the Kent farm.
"Fine. Let's get this torture over with." I grumble in my temper.
Bri is quick to escape the vehicle, not making sure I was following. She knew I would follow her all the way up the steps and, to the front door.
I felt like I were following someone who was leading the blind into a bad situation not knowing it. I breathed in, and out reminding myself that this could be a whole lot worse.
"Are you gonna tell me what you do? As in your job, and what you've been doing for a living." I say, trying to make small talk with a woman I hardly knew.
"I work for people I can't talk about. I can't talk much about my job either, and there's a reason for it." Bri informs me, seemingly to not really want to talk much more to me.
I had one more thing I needed to know.
"What about my clothes? If I'm going to live somewhere else. What about my clothes?" I asks in hopes that she wouldn't give me some kind of dumb response.
Just as she was about to answer; Clark Kent suddenly pops up on the other side of the screen door with a big lopsided grin on his face.
"Jules." Clark speaks, opening the screen door pleasantly while stepping aside for us to come inside even though, he didn't inquire who the woman was with me. He seemed to already have a general clue about the whole ordeal while I was still struggling with it.
Bri looked bored and, beyond.
"Where are your parents?" Bri asks seeming to interrogate the boy, smacking her lips and, wrinkling her nose up in disgust at the homey feel of the house.
I shoot her a confused look, figuring this is part of her plans to make our situation scarce. I pretend to not care too much for the blonde girl as Clark gives me a warm embrace. I felt something that I wasn't liking.
"My dad is out in the barn fixing some stuff up. My mom isn't home but, I'm sure my dad would be pleased to see you. I'll be right back." Clark informs us while opting to leave the two of us alone in the home.
Bri cast a glance around the home like it was a disgrace to the community while looking grossed out of anything warm and, cozy.
I was about to speak up when a chattering Lois Lane walked downstairs complaining about Clark's bedroom or something.
Lois stops automatically when she sees the two of us at the same time that Clark and, Jonathan walk through the door.
What was about to happen? I still couldn't force myself to make sense of it all.
"I'm Brigid Darlene. I'm here to drop this off like I told you I would be doing this morning over the phone." Bri says, pointing a finger at me like I was some kind of lost puppy.
Jonathan only nods obviously remembering the conversation.
"What's going on?" Lois asks coming over to us. Curisoity is plain as day in her hazel brown eyes, her wavy blonde hair in a neat ponytail.
Clark looks like he was trying to keep a straight, serious face while needing to make sense of it. He failed to do a good job of being stoic, at this point.
"I do remember you mentioning it. My daughter is not a 'this.' Just for your information." Jonathan proudly announces in a strict tone as he places a hand on my shoulder eyeing the female like she was something only the devil could make. He had great taste when it came to not liking her because, I felt the same way (having not really known my aunt too well anyway.)
Bri looks as if someone has slapped the bitterness out of her. She appears to be blushing from embarrassment of her statement.
"Crimson is your daughter. You have a daughter you never told me about?" Lois appeared to be shocked and, it comes to my attention as to what she had been doing earlier. She had two suitcases with her and, she seemed to be going somewhere. She had set them down whenever she first saw Bri and, I.
"I must be on my way. She doesn't have any packed clothes with her." Bri informs everyone else, starting for the door.
Clark made sure to walk Bri to her car to show that he was a gentleman. He had been raised right but, there was definitely something different about him that I couldn't place my finger on.
I had gone into shy mode again during the whole damn thing. I was about as scared as a cat being drowned by a serial killer in a horror movie without a reason for doing so.
"Yes, she's my daughter. We'll find her some clothes." Jonathan pipes up with the last part being yelled to Bri before she was even at the door.
I had to wonder if Martha knew that I was his daughter. Would she accept me or reject me much like my adopted father did? To think, someone had to go slaughtering my birth mother while I gained knowledge in a prison.
Lois wrapped her arms around me in a short embrace which surprised me a bit.
"Where are you off to? Are you leaving for good?" I asked, nodding to the two suitcases.
"My time has come to go. I'll be around, but I gotta get going because, I don't want to be late." Lois informed me with another hug before she was off while Clark reappeared back inside.
Jonathan received a hug and, thanks from Lois before walking out the door.
I was even more anxious while waiting for someone to say something.
"Does mom know?" Clark asks looking from me to Jonathan.
"Yes, your mother knows. We can talk more about this later. We have business to take care of around here before your mother gets home." Jonathan informs Clark while he gave me a warm smile almost tearing up.
"Okey, dokey." I said wishing I didn't feel out of place. I felt like an alien but, things got moving faster than I expected them to. Sighing, I had to wonder if I'd like it here. I knew that it was going to depend on whether or not Martha was furious with Jonathan.
I certainly was not about to start calling either or 'mom' and 'dad.' I knew the Kent family but, I couldn't know them enough.
