Lily took a deep breath and closed her eyes, trying to block out the noisy chattering of the muggles around her. She looked at the wall and gulped. She was always scared of running through the barrier, even though she'd done it a million times before. Here goes nothing… She started pushed the cart forward at top speed, feeling the wind brush her red hair. she kept running and running, before opening her eyes to see herself at Platform 9 with the familiar sight of all the young wizards and witches getting ready to board the Hogwarts express.
Lily let out a sigh of relief then looked down and bit her lip. It was her final year at Hogwarts and she realized just then, that this would be the last time she would walk up to the platform as a student.
Something dropped in the pit of her stomach. It was her final year here, and after that, she was going to have to leave Hogwarts forever. Hogwarts was like her home, the one place where she could be herself, her real self as a witch. And soon, she would have to leave and step out of this comfort area. She took a deep breath and promised herself she wasn't going to think about this too much. She wanted to be happy this year.
Lily was suddenly attacked with a huge bear-hug. "OH MY MERLIN LILY!"Hestia Jones screamed, flinging her purse around in excitement. "Oh god I missed you so much! oooh, girrllllll you look amazing!", she added, looking Lily up and down with a wink. Lily laughed and winked back at her, before squealing and hugging her again. "I missed you too oh my gosh!" Lily sighed tightening the hug.
Hestia was very close to Lily, as well as Alice Prewett and Gwenog Jones, Hestia's sister, though they looked nothing alike. Hestia was gorgeous, with light caramel brown hair, and chocolate brown eyes. She was that boy crazy friend we all have, basically.
Hestia's eyes scanned Lily's outfit appraisingly before narrowing on the badge on her shirt. "NO WAY HEAD GIRL!", she screamed, hugging Lily again, jumping up and down.
"YES I KNEW IT!" someone else yelled triumphantly. They both turned to see Alice and Gwenog running over to meet them. "Hi guys!",Lily said cheerfully. The girls began chatting about their summers in high spirits before someone else walked up.
Lily looked around to see who it was and froze, before immediately rolling her eyes. "James Potter. Now what do you want?", she asked, exasperated. It was a beautiful day and she wanted to enjoy it without an intolerable nut-head around.
James raised his eyebrows.. "Nothing, I just wanted to say hi. Well, see you on the train later. Don't be late!", he said shrugging, with a charming smile. Lily frowned, "What are you talking abou-" she said, before trailing off as she noticed something gleaming on his shirt.
This couldn't be possible. it was probably a prank. How could it be possible, right? "Haha, funny joke.." Lily tried. He, James Potter, the most arrogant and misbehaving boy ever in Hogwarts history, the boy who has gotten over a thousand letters home since first year, chosen to be Head boy? He wasn't even a Prefect!
Lily looked up at him, hoping with all her heart that he would laugh and yell, JOKING, but he never did. "No way... really? you're Head Boy?" she asked, her heart sinking.
"Uhh yeah. Didn't you know?"Sirius Black asked, walking up and resting his arm over James's shoulder brotherly. "Dumbledore sent him a letter and gave him the badge, just like how you did, Lily-flower." Lily was so shocked she couldn't even bother to snap at Sirius. Once she could process everything, she stared at James again. "You? Potter? Head Boy? No way…." she said, wishing again that he would admit he was kidding, but nope didn't happen either. Oh boy... Lily thought as she felt all her excitement and joy instantly vanishing.
Lily sank lower in her seat, still shocked. "It's okay Lily. It's fine." Alice consoled, rubbing her back. "How could he be Head Boy? Ohhh, this is gonna be a long year" Lily groaned. Hestia chuckled and said, "No doubt. Hey, aren't you supposed to be at a Prefect meeting soon? It's almost 3." Lily nodded and stood up, leaving the compartment and blowing kisses at her friends.
She walked to the Prefect compartment. The meeting wouldn't start for 15 minutes but she wanted to prepare herself. She opened the glossy wooden door and froze. James Potter was sitting there flipping through the prefect schedules on the long table. His head snapped up and saw Lily. Smiling, he beckoned for her to come sit, which she did extremely slowly.
"Um, I didn't think you would be this early" Lily admitted.
"Well I wanted to be prepared, Lily-flower.", he said smirking. Lily narrowed her eyes,
"Don't call me Lily-flower. Or I'll hex you." She threatened. James looked at her with an amused twinkle in his eyes and nodded. "Understood, your majesty.", he said. Lily rolled her eyes and bit back a laugh.
James stared back at the documents on the table with frustration stirring up in him. He was really confused, so who was supposed to be patrolling when? And where? God, this Prefect thing is so incredibly boring and complicated.
He looked at the corner of his eyes to see Lily leaning close to study the documents with him. Honestly, he just loves her so much. Well, duh, he's been in love since first year. James had a sudden urge to just pull her in and kiss her forever but he held back and just looked at her instead. Her red hair was draped over her shoulders and her green eyes were clear and focused on the parchment in front of her. Lily had a little cute button nose and plump lips coated with flavored lip balm. James studied her face and sighed internally. Merlin, she was so beautiful.
Lily flushed a little, feeling his gaze on her. Ugh, he's so annoying. She was used to that horrible git staring at her but this was a bloody Prefect meeting, James! She had been trying to concentrate on the parchment but then saw that he had leaned in a little. Her stomach gave a little flip. What the heck? She looked up to see his face close. Gulp. "Potter.", she said sternly, well, tried to sound stern. James burst into laughter at how uncomfortable she was and was about to tease her before a loud knock pushed the door open.
Alice Prewett, Frank Longbottom, Amos Diggory, Amelia Bones, and other fellow prefects walked in. Alice froze and her eyes widen seeing Lily and James both unharmed. She had thought James would be hexed already as usual, laying on the floor but nope, that didn't happen.
Lily cleared her throat and smiled at them. "Let's begin, shall we?"
God that was so awkward... Lily thought desperately. "Uh earth to Lily Evans?", James said loudly, snapping Lily back to reality. "Oh um what did you say?" Lily stuttered. "Nothing. Shouldn't we start?" He asked confused. Lily nodded quickly and ignored the little snickers in the room.
"So let's see, can we have these meetings monthly? Okay with everyone? Alright then, on Mondays, let's have Diggory and Bones patrol on the third floor..."
