Many Years Later

Chapter 2

As I was walking through new homes doors, Silver by my side, I realized- I had never really spoken to her, because I could never understand her. She spoke in wingdings. I never knew where she had learned to speak like that. No monster spoke like that. I tried to teach her our native language, but she couldn't pronounce that. I do have a translation book, but I can only have the most basic conversations with her. And those get boring quickly. I've been teaching her since I found her in Hotland 5 years ago, but she simply doesn't have any motivation. She has that hopeless look in her eyes all the time too, like she has lost something she can't get back. " " I could barely understand her question. But I think it was "when will they fall down here?" they meaning the humans. means Soon. So, I responded, " " She nodded and went over to the counter to make some butterscotch tea. Ever since Toriel divorced me, Silver has been taking care of me. And I love her for that. She's 20 years old, which is the legal age you can be on your own in the underground, but she hasn't left my side. Suddenly, Sans burst into the palace.

"There's a human in the underground! Repeat! Human in the underground! Asgore! Undyne sent Papyrus to battle them!" He then said the same thing to silver, but in wingdings. Maybe Sans should tutor me in wingdings… anyway, Silver immediately ran out of the palace. That's our routine for whenever a human falls. She distracts the human by pretending to be a human herself, then we go in for the kill. " " Sans translated for me.

"'I promise you, this time I'll come back with a soul!'"

"She's the most powerful out of all of us. I'm sure she'll come back. After all, she is the most like…"

"Cha-"

"Don't."

I can't hear that name again. Not after… never mind.

I ran to where the human was and hid. The skeleton that was supposedly named Papyrus looked a lot like… Gold. I jumped in front of Papyrus just before the human slashed the final blow. I received a ton of damage, but it was worth it. Papyrus was safe. And now… the human knew I wasn't human. A human could never take that much damage and survive. Thus, I shot a barrage of fiery bones at the human. The same amount of damage was inflicted on the human as they inflicted on me. But… they still stood. That's when I saw a dark shadow spread across the human. Their red eyes opened, and I saw pure hatred in both of them. I stepped back. They charged. Didn't this human know the meaning of retreat? I made a wall of blue bones in order to block them, but they-no, she-sliced the bones in half! Clearly this was some next level human. She sliced at me, and I dodged. That's when the human appeared to close one of her eyes, and the hatred turned into determination. She-no, their gender became anonymous again-looked at me and seemed to realize what they had done. They suddenly ran away. I was left confused. Why did this human try to attack Papyrus, and why did they run away after? I quickly ran back towards the

castle. Papyrus called to me in a language I couldn't understand.

Asgore had spoken to me in the same language. Maybe I should ask Sans about it. I quickly ran away from Papyrus. My identity was to remain secret. "Wait!" Huh? Was he… speaking in wingdings? I turned back toward him.

"what?"

"Thank you. I clearly could have handled the human myself, but… thanks anyway." I smiled at him, then ran back to the palace to heal myself. I can't handle this anymore! Gold would have told me to learn that language! I need to know!

I was sleeping at the palace when Silver came running in.

"Sans! I want to learn the other language other than wingdings!"

heh. She may be 20 years old, but she still talks like a child.

"sure."

"sans…"

"what?"

"I need you to really teach me, rather than slack off and just teach me a few words."

"fine. But don't expect it to be easy."

"I wasn't planning to."

I started teaching Silver in secret, since she had insisted. Apparently, she wanted it to be a surprise for Asgore. That kid… she just doesn't give up. Nothing like me. I remember how we had met. I saw her in the palace with Asgore. He was holding a small book. I suddenly heard her speak in wingdings. Was she… no. it couldn't be. She wasn't one of Gasters' subjects, was she?
