JUSTICE IS BLIND: YOUNG BOY FOILS MUGGING
A mugging in Chiba came to a swift and unsuccessful end at the hands of the local police – and a young boy on his way to get a haircut.
Midoriya Izuku, 12, recently started the new year at Dantuuin Junior High. Like any good student he likes to keep himself looking smart, and so he was out to get a trim on Saturday afternoon. He keeps up with his studies, and enjoys debating the ins and outs of quirks and pro hero rankings. In fact, you could say that Midoriya is a typical young student, with one key difference: he has been blind since birth.
When he came across a man holding a woman at knifepoint and demanding her money, he decided to intervene - or rather to interject himself into the middle of the scene. He walked between the mugger and his victim, cane tapping the ground, dark glasses on and looking as if he had no idea where he really was. But of course, it was all an act.
"Oh no, I was entirely aware of what was going on", the young hero told reporters, "I just thought I'd make myself a distraction. Who wants to pull a knife on a blind kid, right? It'd be messed up. I thought the woman would run away, but instead I guess the cops showed up, so at least that solved it."
Indeed, the would-be mugger was so taken aback by the sight of a blind child wandering through his crime scene that he stood and stared. This allowed the local police to reach the scene, where they promptly took him into custody.
The young man modestly declined praise for his actions, stating that he stepped in without thinking as it "just seemed like the right thing to do". He also expressed concerns that he would have worried his mother by his actions. Nevertheless, we applaud his quick thinking and willingness to help others.
(Midoriya's note: Worried was an understatement, she grounded me for about a century. It was worth it, though)
