Children of Ice
Chapter Two: Steve and Edmund
Author's Note: I am so sorry for not updating this as regularly as I wanted, but writer's block decided to play whack-a-mole with me for a while. Anyways, I do not own any of the series that appear in this story. They all belong to their respective owners. This chapter is probably going to be short, and next chapter will be a time skip for Loki.
Despite everything that was going on, Loki was glad to be on Midgard. Midgard had proven to be a safe haven before, and he was curious what happened to little Stephen. The last time Loki had seen him, the poor boy had been bitten by a police dog at his father's strike. Breaking the news to Joseph's wife had been hard, especially since Loki had the opportunity to save him. Thoughts of Steven brought up another family Loki had met, but he shoved them away.
"Now is not the time," he muttered to himself, and sighed. If the being only known as Time's Heir hadn't insisted he travel to Midgard, he probably would have gone to Vanaheim to escape his brother. Thor could be irritating at times, and Loki sometimes despaired over the fact. His brother was in no way shape or form the warrior from his vision. Realizing his thoughts, Loki took a moment to collect himself. What was it that the being had said?
"Two of the ones you must train are alive. Find them," Loki grumbled. How was he supposed to find two Midgardians when he knew absolutely nothing about them? Resisting the urge to scream in frustration, Loki sighed again. He really hated this, but if the future he Saw was to be stopped, whomever the Midgardians were had to be found. Yet another sigh escaped, and Loki idly wondered just how times he would sigh before his mission was done.
Stumbling across the camp was an accident. But there was no mistaking the one they called Captain America. Thankfully, they had bought his story, and let him stay. However, Loki had very little time to talk to Steven. Still wondering how the Hel Steven had gotten so much taller when Loki clearly remembered the doctors (and Eire, when Loki told her) saying that Steven would probably never be tall or strong as he now was, Loki stood from his spot near the fire and moved over to the man.
"Captain!" a voice called, and Loki's eyes widened. He recognized that voice as well. Just what was his King doing here? He certainly wasn't of age by Midgard's standards. Yet, here he was, steel in his eyes as he made a report to Steven.
Loki stayed with the Howling Commandos and worked as their medic. But then came the final assault on HYDRA's base. He had insisted on going, and listened in horror when Steven told them that he had to put the plane into the water. Agent Carter made arrangements for a dance that everyone knew would never happen, and then Aegeus spoke.
"Kenward, protect my family." He said in Old Narnian, the language falling from his lips as easily as breathing.
"I will. I swear before Aslan Himself that your family will want for nothing."
For the first time in a long time, Loki prayed fervently that he would see the two of them again, whether it be on Earth or in Aslan's Country.
Author's Note 2: So, yeah. That was Edmund and Steve. Short, I know, but it was really all I had. Next chapter: Clint… and maybe Natasha. We will see, and I promise next chapter will be longer.
