Ch. 2
A/N: Good Afternoon Campers! It's me Bambi and I'm back with another chapter of Deliver Him From Eva! I hope you are all doing well, staying in the house, washing your hands, and using that lotion. Just a slight hint, this is the chapter where Freddie meets Eva! I really hope you all enjoy it! As always, I do/have not/ probably nor will I ever own the rights to Welcome Back, Kotter or any of its characters. I do own Eva though! Now, onto the chapter!
Verna Jean's leaving had playing back in Freddie's mind for the past three months. He's been absolutely miserable. Could he be blamed? Verna was his entire world and now she was just gone. It's been hell to get over her. That's what Freddie is trying to do tonight. He's at some party in Queens. Freddie walks into the venue, grabs a drink, and finds a place on the wall. His eyes scan the room seeing what seems like an endless sea of couples looking happy and in love. As the loneliness sets in, all Freddie wants to do is flee. Maybe it was too soon to go out like this.
That feeling lingers for a few more minutes till he hears hoops, hollers, and cheers coming from the center of the room. In order to not look like a dork, he gets off the wall to go see what's got the crowd of people so excited. He gets there and notices everyone cheering on a girl whose back was turned away from him. She's grooving to Dancing Machine by The Jackson Five. Finally, she turns around and Freddie can get a glimpse of the captivation. She has black shiny shoulder length curly hair like Donna Summer, dark brown skin, and a low cut red jumpsuit.
She's seems so fun and carefree as if she doesn't realize she's caught the eye of almost everybody in the place. The music stops and tries to make her way out of the circle. People are walking up to just to have a few words with her. Freddie had the urge to want to be one of those people. He doesn't even what he would say if he had her attention. He watches as she saunters up to the bar. Freddie took a second to get his nerve up and to figure out what he was going to say. Freddie approaches her. "Cool party huh?" Freddie asks already feeling dumb.
"Guess so." She replies before taking a sip of a fizzy pink liquid. "You live around here?" Freddie questions trying to break the ice. "Why you wanna take me home?" She teases. Freddie's eyes widen at the girl's forceful nature. "Oh no! Nothing like that! Just making conversation." Freddie tries to recover. She made a mhm sound. "You from around here?" The girl grilled. "I'm from Brooklyn." Freddie responds feeling self conscious underneath her gaze. "So why are you here? Need an escape?" She asked. "Why are you asking me that?" Freddie wondered.
"You look like a person who's trying to be happy but something's holding you back. Something is on your mind." She insists. "Well, my girl did leave a few months ago." He admits. "Sorry. Listen, break ups are actually not the end of the world. It's a chance for growth and new beginnings." She explained as a friend walked up and whispered something into her ear. She turns to Freddie. "I'm leaving but it was cool to talk to you uh..." She waved wanting him to fill in the blank. "Freddie." He fills in. "Freddie." She nods then starts walking away.
"Wait! You got a name?" Freddie questions. "Eva." She calls over her shoulder. "Eva." He smiles to himself. He leaves the party feeling better than he has since Verna left.
