Chapter 2: the Complex Chase

It's 8:13 PM and the streets are empty because of the murders, Nick and Judy are in the car near a gas station as they're getting really tired and drank their coffee.

"Nick, how many hours are we going to be here?"

"In about two hours."

"Cheese and Crackers I'm so tired (yawns)."

"We just have to deal with it until 10:20."

"I don't know if I can stay up that long."

"How about we take turns napping so we can get some sleep, sound good Carrots?"

"Yep, sounds good Slick."

They both took turns to nap, check over the radio, and look around for suspicious mammals that are roaming around. 40 minutes later, Its was Judy's turn to watch over the streets, within a moment, she looked around and saw a Male deer limping towards her, cover with red liquid and a hole on his chest though his back, she thought is he bleeding?, as soon she opened the car door, the deer falls to the side while he's coughing out blood.

"NICK, WAKE UP!"

Nick heard Judy's voice and woke up to see what she was seeing.

The deer spoked "please...h-help."

"Don't worry, help is on the way; Nick, call over the radio!"

"Alright, Hello, we need a 10-52 near Pawside BLVD. and Milky AVE. on standby and make it quick."

Nick rushed over to aid the deer with Judy.

"I'm-I'm not gonna make it." Said the deer bleeding out of his chest.

Judy refused, freaked out by this "you're going to make it, just hang on."

"No, I'm going to die... but officer, p-please save my family!" The deer turning pale

"Where do they live?" Nick questioned.

"In Badger...Woods...Com...plex." The deer say his final breath and die with a blank stare.

Nick looked over at Judy and her eyes showed terror and horrid right in front of the dead body, Nick felt the same way because both of them have never seen a dead mammal before until now.

Nick snapped out of it and run back to the car to grab the radio's receiver.

"Hello, this is Officer Wilde, we got a 10-31 in in BadgerWoods Complex, we also need another ambulance there, stat."

"Roger that Officer Wilde, we'll send backup on your way." Said Clawhauser though the radio.

"Judy, we need to go now….Judy?"

Judy was too horrified to hear him as the deers' blood covered Judy's arms and hands, petrified from the dead body right in front of her.

"JUDY!" Nick yelled

Judy snapped back into reality

"Huh?"

"we need to go NOW. "

Judy ran back to the car and turned on the police siren.

"The apartment complex is only 20 blocks away, we can maybe make it there quickly enough to stop that murderer from hurting people."

Nick looked over Judy while he was driving and see that she is still covered in blood, Nick took out a towel under his seat and passed it to her.

"Here, wipe it off your arms."

Judy did so, wiping off the blood on her arms and hands. She felt unease and afraid to begin thinking about that dead body in front of her, it scared her a lot that she would grab Nick's tail for comfort.

"Judy, are you okay? You're gripping my tail."

"Oh! Sorry." Judy nose keeps twitching violently, even her body is shaking in the whole ride.

"Judy, please calm down, I really don't want to see you like this."

"I know Nick, (forming tears) i-it's just that we…we couldn't save him."

"We couldn't, but you have to realize that we can't save everyone, even if we have the strength to do it; life is unfair to mammals like all of us and the only way to relieve the pain inside us is to forget about it, then move on."

After hearing what Nick said, Judy agrees what he said and set her terrify image of the dead body aside as she relaxed.

"Thank you Nick, you're a best friend that I could ever have."

"Yeah...your welcome" said Nick with a sad tone in his voice. Judy notice about his tone and decided to not butt in until later.

They arrived to the apartment complex with other officers that got there before them, the cars are empty which means that they went inside and finding the culprit while other cops outside are evacuating mammals inside the apartment. Nick and Judy ran to the lobby, most of the officers were in there then Wolford and Delgato ran into them.

"There a lot officers here, what's going on?" Judy questioned.

"Sorry, we needed more officers to block the entrance and don't worry, some of us are checking room to room to see any murders has happen." Said Delgato.

"I guess we'll do the same, come on Nick."

"We'll back you up just in case."

Four of them searched half around the complex hoping for any clues or blood stains around the halls or in some of the rooms they passed by, once they were about to go to the other side of the complex, they passed by a hall, Judy stop to hear some footsteps and look at the other side of the hall. She sees a hooded gray fox with a sword on his back looking around like he's finding someone, Judy pulled out her tranquilizer and got in position.

"FREEZE! ZPD!" Judy yelled.

"Shit." said the hooded fox.

Nick and the others heard her and ran back to where she is, The black hooded fox ran to the left but to find himself in a dead end. Nick got to Judy first and pull out his tranquilizer.

"Do not move or else we'll shoot" Nick warned him

The black hooded fox smirked and took a step. Nick and Judy shot their tranquilizers at him, but the fox pulled out two kunais and throw them at the darts, making them deflected from each other on pinpoint.

"What the?"

The black hooded fox grab the darts in the air and throw it back to them. Nick and Judy act quickly and duck.

"You missed." Judy smirked

"I wasn't aiming for you." Said the black hooded fox.

Judy thought a second of what he meant by that then they both quickly turned around to Wolford and Delgato behind them with the tranquilizer darts on their chest. Both of them fell flat to the ground, unable to move.

"DELGATO, WOLFORD! Huh?"

The hooded fox threw two more kunais at them, Nick dodged left while Judy goes right. The kunais were stab to the ground, as Nick and Judy were about to reload, the duo heard a click right behind them where the kunais are, both of them turned around and a light flashed their eyes, blinding them a little. The hooded fox run passed them to escape but only to be caught by Nick, on the arm. Nick cuffed his arm to his.

"Gotcha, try to get away now."

"Certainly." Said the hooded fox

He punched Nick in the guts really hard, what the? his punch is like a lion. Nick said in his mind, but Nick stood his ground.

"It's gonna take more than that to knocked me down, you bastard."

Then he did a hand chopped on the back of his neck.

"Okay...that will do."

*THUD*

Nick was knocked out, the hooded fox unlocked the cuffs by using his kunai and make a run for it. Judys' vision went back to normal and saw the hooded fox ran like no time, Judy chase him in the hallway to the right.

Meanwhile…

The purple fur hooded rabbit and a hooded red velvet fox are in an alleyway, scouting for suspicious activity; as they doing so, a male leopard officer with sunglasses walked around the corner and saw them.

"Who are you, hands where I can see them." Said the male leopard, pulling out his tranquilizer.

Both of them turned around to face him; the red velvet fox pulled out his weapon, which is a bladed hook for a hand and swiftly tried to kill him, but the leopard dodged it perfectly, too perfectly.

"Tch. Just as I thought, if you were a mammal, you would've died from that swiftly kill." Said the red velvet fox.

Then, the leopard did a murderous smile and took off his sunglasses to reveal his eyes, they were black and red, soulless eyes. More mammals that has eyes like his appeared behind him.

"To think more of y'all are coming here. Then that means their commander is in the complex too, we should contact him about it."

"Sure, but first, we should take care of these shitheads." Said the hooded purple fur rabbit forming a fighting stance.

"You read my mind."
