This is my very first FanFiction about Varian and the first one I've posted, so it might not be my best. I really hope you enjoy this story, and if anyone has ideas for future chapters or stories or just wants to review (good or bad), please do so.
"I'm sorry, but did you just say that Varian escaped?"asked Eugene. "How?" It seemed impossible to escape from the dungeons, even more so when there were extra guards placed around the castle by order of the king. How Varian did it, no one knows.
"All we know is that he was eating lunch. The guards were changing posts and when the next guards arrived at his cell, the boy was gone," replied the guard.
Rapunzel was at a loss for words. Sure, Varian was smart, but how could he have escaped so easily? She decided that she'd just ask the guard to take her to Varian's cell to see if there was any evidence.

Varian looked at his old room. He never thought he'd see it ever again, but when he realized all he had to do to get out of that dreaded dungeon, was to take lunch and the guards to his advantage. He was able to twist the spoon into something that resembled a key, so when the guards changed posts, he took his opportunity to escape. He easily opened the door, and slipped out. He was long gone by the time the guards settled into their places, and surprisingly none of the other guards he came across noticed him.
Sadly, there was no sign of his once faithful raccoon. This saddened the alchemist, but he didn't let that distract him from his reason for coming here. You see, before Varian was imprisoned, he had a slight suspicion that Rapunzel's hair wouldn't work, so he started working on an invention that would threaten the royal family into helping him find something to break the amber. He was about to start building the rest of it when he heard the door downstairs burst open.

Back at the dungeon, Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra were looking for any clues on Varian's escape. Rapunzel had told the guard to leave them alone in their investigation, but to get Cassandra as well. They were about to give up hope, when all of a sudden Cassandra found something .
"Is that a... spoon?"asked Cass. She was checking the door for any type of chemical when she saw a piece of metal jammed into the keyhole. When she took it out, she was surprised to find a deformed spoon. "You said he was eating lunch, right?" At Rapunzel's nod she continued, "Do you know what was being served?"
"I think I heard your dad say it was soup,"replied Eugene. "You don't think that he escaped with that spoon. Right?"
"It's possible. I mean, he is the smartest person in all the land, so I really wouldn't be that surprised," replied Rapunzel. "Oh! Hi Pete!" Cassandra and Eugene turned around to see Pete coming towards them.
"Princess, we have word that Varian is in Old Corona," said the guard. "Should we send out a team to retrieve him?"
"I think it'd be better if we all came along, don't you think?" And with that they went to Old Corona in search of Varian.
