Chapter 2

March 23rd, 1980

Sirius was tired. Not physically tired, but he was sleepy. Marlene had been in the hospital for three days, and while she had went into labour, the Healers said they're trying to hold off her delivery because it was too early. And Sirius had been in the hospital for three days straight. His friends had been by every day, Remus brought him some clothes, James and Lily brought him food to make sure he was eating, and Peter had stopped by to just offer a little support.

Sirius was grateful for his friends, because Marlene's parents weren't the best to... be around at the moment. They clearly hated him and wanted nothing to do with him. Sirius didn't even think he wanted them around their daughter, but obviously he couldn't make that choice.

He was currently eating some pie that Lily had brought him when a Healer came out into the waiting room and rushed over to him. "Mr. Black." The woman said, and Sirius looked up at her.

Mouth pull of pie, he raised a brow, "Yes?"

"Come, it's time... I'm afraid we can't hold her off any longer, the baby's ready to make herself known." The healer whipped out her wand. "Accio scrubs and gloves." They whipped into her hand, and she handed them over to Sirius. "You'll need to change into these, and then meet us in the room, quickly now." The healer made her way down the hall, rushing to get to Marlene's room.

Sirius gulped the pie down, suddenly not even sure he still had the appetite. He groaned and quickly went to change into the scrubs. He couldn't believe it, it was time to have a baby. Or well.. it was time for Marlene to have the baby and for him to meet his daughter. The months had seemed to go by fast, he didn't know how he was going to be a good father. He just hoped that he could live up to the father his friends believed he could be.

Sirius slowly walked down the hall, and when he made it to the room, he paused outside the door, his eyes growing wide at the sound of Marlene's screams on the other side of the door. He pushed the door open, the sight he was greeted with was Marlene withering in pain on the hospital bed, screaming and crying as the Healers surrounded her.

"Mr. Black just take her hand and stand over to her side." The Healer ushered him further into the room. Sirius gulped, shakily grabbing Marlene's hand and wincing as she squeezed it tightly.

"Hurry!" Marlene exclaimed. "Please get her out!" She cried out, tears spilling from her eyes.

"McK-... Marlene, it's going to be okay." Sirius told her quietly, rubbing his hand over her own.

"That's it, now go ahead and push Marlene." The Healer instructed, and Marlene screamed out as she let out a push. "Again!" Another cry formed as she pushed once more. "I see the head. "Push again!"

Marlene screamed as she slammed her free hand down on the bed, pushing as she cried out. Sirius took a cool cloth from one of the Healers and rubbed it over Marlene's face.

"Almost got her, and... here she is." The Healer pulled the baby the rest of the way out as a loud baby cry filled the room and Marlene sunk down onto the bed. Sirius stared as the Healer wrapped a a blanket around the baby, she moved forward to hand her over to Marlene, but Marlene shook her head.

"Sirius... Sirius hold your baby girl."

"What?... Mar- Marlene I..." Sirius shook his head, but the Healer was already putting the baby in his arms. He quickly held out his arms awkwardly to take hold of the baby, staring down at her as she settled in his arms, the crying ceasing on her lips. "Oh... hello little one." He said quietly as he smiled down at her. She was beautiful, she still had all that gunk on her, and Sirius imagined that they would clean her up after they got finished cooing over her. She had a little patch of black hair on the top of her head, her eyes were closed so he couldn't see the color of that, but he just knew that she was beautiful. "What... what do we name her?" It occurred to him that they hadn't discussed a name yet.

Marlene looked tired, and he could only imagine how tired she probably was after all of this. "Oh..." She smiled, "I forgot to tell you that, i already had a name."

Sirius hoped it wasn't some stupid name that came from her family, he truly hoped it wasn't-

"Orion Sierra Black." She told Sirius, and smiled up at him. Sirius paused, and he looked up from the baby to look at Marlene, tears sprouted in the corner of his eyes. He looked back down at the baby, before smiling at her.

"Hi... hello pup." Sirius murmured softly. "My Orion..." He breathed out, and the baby soon opened her eyes, staring up at him with brown chocolate doe like eyes.

"She's so precious." Lily Potter gushed as she sat in the living room of Sirius and Remus' flat, holding a two month old Orion in her arms. "Sirius, I was sure she was going to look like Marlene, but Merlin's pants, she looks just like you. I can only imagine who she will look like as time goes by."

Sirius smiled, taking a sip of his beer as he looked over at his daughter, "Yeah, Black genes are strong, that much is true." He sat the beer down on the table. "Remus and I were thinking that I might need to move back into Grimmauld Place." He announced to his friends, and James and Lily looked at him with concerned.

"Really? Oi, are you sure?" James asked his friend and frowned. They all knew that Grimmauld Place was difficult being in, especially since Sirius' young brother, Regulus had been killed just last year.

Sirius didn't have a good relationship with his younger brother, but he was always upset that he hadn't been able to save him when his death came. Nevertheless, Sirius nodded, "Yeah... Remus and I are young, and I may be a father, but I don't want Remus to have to listen to me up in the middle of the night with the Pup trying to keep her at ease." He explained.

Remus shook his head, "I already told him that he didn't have to, but he seems rather adamant."

Lily handed Orion over to James, who handed her to SIrius after gushing over her himself. Lily was big in her final two months of pregnancy, so she couldn't do a lot of walking. She definitely couldn't hold Orion and walk around with her like she had when she was first born.

"Besides..." Sirius smiled down at his daughter, brushing her hand gently with his hand. "McKinnon is thinking of moving in with us as well... in separate rooms of course."

Lily raised a brow, before glancing at the others, "Oh... oh so the two of you are...?"

"Just co-parenting, that's all Lils." Sirius dismissed her curiosity, even while the other three snickered. "We just both agreed that we'd like Orion to have both her parents around at all times. A one family household... at least for right now."

"I think it's mature of you to come to that decision. I'm sure Orion will be grateful for it when she gets older." Remus grabbed the bottle off the nearby table when the baby started fussing in Sirius arms, and he handed the bottle to his mate.

"Thanks." Sirius looked a little flustered as he fed his daughter, still getting used to the whole thing.

"I'm sure Orion and little Harry are going to be the best of friends." James quipped, reaching down to rub at Lily's stomach.

Sirius chuckled, "There's no doubt about it." He said, looking down to smile at Orion as she fed.

"Blimey, crawling already?" James Potter asked as he entered Grimmauld Place, stepping over Orion, who was babbling and spitting at the mouth happily as she crawled around in her play pen. He held Harry to his chest, young Harry that was only four months, he obviously wouldn't be able to get down in the play pen with Orion, due to Orion possibly crawling all over him.

Marlene smiled and laughed, "Yes, she's 'a very fast learner. You know she started to say da-da the other day? Sirius won't let me hear the end of it." She sat in the rocking chair watching Orion as she played.

Marlene had stuck true to what Sirius had told his friends back in the summer, and moved right into Grimmauld Place just a few weeks after Sirius had moved in with Orion. Her parents had hated it, but she had reasoned with them that she couldn't bare being away from her baby for months, even though that's what she and Sirius had originally decided on before Orion was born.

"Let me hold him, will you?" Marlene smiled brightly when James put Harry in her arms.

"I'm giving Lily a break, so he's with me for the day." James admitted as he held Harry's diaper bag.

"Well... the boys are all in the dining room having a drink, feel free to join them." Marlene said, smiling down at Harry and playing with him. James shot her a grateful look, before darting off into the kitchen.

Marlene chuckled as the sound of "Hey's" and drunken greetings came from the other room.

"Men." The woman said to the two babes, and Orion, as if she knew what her mummy was saying, gurgled out a laugh.

"Sirius Black, I told you not to get all of these presents for her, she's only 9 months, for Merlin's sake!" Marlene exclaimed as she walked into the living room with Sirius, the Christmas tree lights flickering.

Sirius chuckled as he held Orion to him, kissing her cheek. "Meaning, she'll have enough for the whole year. Isn't that right, pup?" He tickled her slightly, and Orion laughed, but when he looked at Marlene again, she was giving him a look. "Okay okay, maybe I went overboard. But I got you a present too." He handed Orion to her mum, before quickly moving to the tree and picked up a small box. He smiled cheekily as he moved Marlene to sit down, and handed the present to her.

Marlene allowed Sirius to take Orion back, before she removed the wrapping paper from the box and opened it up. She blinked, before her cheeks flushed and she smiled as she removed the bracelet from the box. "Oh my..." Carved into the silver bracelet was Orion's initials on one side, and her birthday on the other. "This is beautiful." She murmured, running her fingers along the the jewelry.

Sirius looked hesitant at first, but when she seemed to gush over it, he relaxed. "I'm glad you like it, I got Orion one too, granted, she'll grow out of hers I'm sure, but I thought it would be cute... m-matching bracelets for the mum and daughter." He explained, cheeks flushing as he played with Orion's fingers.

Marlene looked up at him, before smiling, "You're going to make me love you one of these days, Black." She quipped softly.

And Sirius smiled at her, eyes twinkling, "That's my plan." They hadn't talked about the extent of their relationship, but over the past months, it was hard not to fall in love when you were living with the mother of your child. "Now, we should get ready for the others to be over." Lily had wanted to host Christmas dinner that year at their place, but she James and little Harry had to move into hiding after the prophecy was announced after Harry's birth. So they could only come out, and when they did, it was very very scarce. No one knew even where they lived, except Sirius himself.

March 23rd, 1981

It had been a whole year since Orion had been born, and while things had been happy and calm at first, everyone had always been tense because they were in the middle of a bloody war. Things only took a turn for the worse in the year of 1981. It was because of that very reason, that Orion had to have a very very discreet birthday party. And Sirius meant very discreet.

They had the cake, they had the ice cream, Marlene stood in the kitchen smiling as Sirius tried to get Orion to blow her candle out, but she simply sputtered out slobber and giggled, and that image alone made Marlene's heart soar.

No one was there, Remus had been thrown into a lot of work with the Order, hell they hadn't heard from him in weeks, let alone seen him in months. Things were getting harder, and Marlene prayed daily that her baby girl didn't have to live in a life of fear like this.

Little did Marlene know, as Sirius stared at the happy look on Orion's face, he prayed the same. But he also prayed that she always had her parents around to love her as unconditionally as they did in this moment.

Orion was learning a few words that mattered now, like names... she could say names. She knew James and Jay. She knew Remus as Moony, she knew Lily as Lili, and of course she knew her parents as Mummy and Dada.

Speaking of Orion's dada... he was very well wondering where Orion's mummy was. She had been gone all day, left out early that morning with intention of going to visit her family. She wanted to take Orion with her to see them, but knew for obvious reasons that she shouldn't.

Which left Sirius and his daughter in the house all day. He didn't mind, he liked spending time with his little girl. He liked reading her books, or watching the muggle fairytale movies on the muggle television. He liked tickling her until she couldn't take it anymore. He liked as she waddled to him mumbling "dada... dada..." and clapping her hands when he swooped her up and spun her around.

They were having a good day until Sirius got the floo.

He took Orion to James and Lily, handing them over her diaper bag, and kissing her head as he placed her on the floor to run off and go play with Harry... Harry would be 1 in a mere month.

"Sirius, do tell us what's wrong?" Lily asked with a concerned frown.

"You look like you've seen a ghost mate." James said. And Sirius prayed that he wouldn't.

But as he arrived at the McKinnon home, looking around at the numerous Aurors that surrounded the house, it felt like he was moving in slow motion as he neared the sheet on the ground. A hand placed on his shoulder, and he barely acknowledged it as Alistor Moody. the senior Auror lead him towards a specifc sheet, motioning to the other Auror to lift the sheet up.

And when it was lifted, Sirius dropped down to his knees, palms laid flat into the green grass as he stared down at the lifeless form of the mother of his child.

"Marlene no." His voice broke as his body shook.

There you have it! Another chapter! And with this chapter ending, we get to the death of Marlene... we all knew it was coming, but it sucks to read it. And Poor Sirius and Orion! I hope you all brace yourselves, we know it only get's worse until it get's better from here!
