Okay so Chapter 2. I guess it didn't take me as long as I thought to update. I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for your review Carrot Lord - I'm glad you like the story
Annabeth's POV
"Hey Annabeth, sorry I know it 2 and I should've been here an hour ago but I didn't realise how long I was gonna be with Jason. Thanks for covering the start of my shift." Piper apologised as she rushed out of the break room, tying her apron as she walked. "It's okay Piper, don't worry about it - you'd do the same for me." I assured her, "Of course I would and if you ever need me to I'm here." She said with a smile. "I'll have to take you up on that sometime." I laughed as I started to head into the break room to grab my stuff.
5 mins later I walked out to grab myself a coffee before sitting down to work on my assignments before my class at 3.30 when piper called me over, "By the way the guy from yesterday- what did you call him? - he's back." She said with a sly tone in her voice. "Persassy's back? Good to know." I winked at her and laughed.
I grabbed my coffee and walked out from behind the counter to go find somewhere to sit and what do you know there was Persassy sitting and chatting to his friend. There was a spare table right next to his so I thought, 'Hey, why not?' and I went over there and sat down.
"But Grover you said you'd help me!" I heard Persassy complain as I sat down. "I know and I'm sorry mate, but I've got to go help Juniper. I can help you tomorrow."
"Ugh fine but you have to help me tomorrow, you know I'm shit at calculus."
"I will, I swear, bye man." Grover said as he grabbed his stuff. "Bye." Percy huffed.
After 3 minutes of Persassy sighing and constantly throwing his pencil down, I couldn't take it anymore so finally I just asked, "Do you want some help? I heard you talking to your friend and I'm pretty good at calculus."
"What?" He looked up at me and then when he realised who I was his cheeks turned pink. "Um yeah, yes please if you wouldn't mind." He mumbled. "Sure it's no problem at all." I said cheerily as I moved my stuff over to his table and sat down. "So Persassy, what do you need help with?" I laughed as I looked at his textbook. "Oh, um, it's actually Percy."
"Well I'm Annabeth." I chuckled, out stretching my hand. He lifted up his hand to meet mine and I swear I felt sparks when our fingers met. "Nice to meet you Percy." Damn our hands fit well together. "Nice to meet you too Annabeth" He nervously laughed. "So I just don't understand this question." He said while pointing to the page. "Oh that's easy, so x to the power of negative a equals 1 over x to the power of a. So try 5 to the power of negative 4."
"Um okay," Percy said with a slightly nervous look on his face. After five minutes of him looking between the textbook and the paper he sat up and asked, "Is...is it, 1 over 625?"
"Correct!" A triumphant smile broke out over his face and he looked like a cute baby seal. "Yes!" In his excitement he accidentally knocked my coffee off the table and it splattered all over the floor. "Oh my god I'm so so so sorry!" He exclaimed as he started to clean it up, "I can't believe I just did that I'm such an idiot! I'll pay for another one I swear!"
"Percy calm down it's okay, don't worry about it." I interrupted him as I kneeled down next to him and put my hand over his. He looked up, a very obvious pink tint to his cheeks. "Are-are you sure?" God he really does look like a cute baby seal. "Yes I am." I assured him as I pulled him to his feet. "Now let's get back to calculus."
"Okay then." He said, glancing down at our hands and I realised that my fingers were still intertwined with his. I quickly dropped my hand, feeling my cheeks grow hot. We sat back down and continued with his calculus.
We worked on Percy's calculus for a while before he finally gave up. "Okay that's enough calculus today - my brain's too tired to do anything else." He said while leaning back in his chair. "Okay if you say so." I said while laughing. "So Percy, are you a freshman? Because I've never seen you around before."
"No I'm a sophmore, but I only just transferred here."
"Why'd you change school?" I questioned him, "Well I was going to New Rome University in San Francisco but I was missing my family too much. And luckily my cousins roommate moved out of their apartment because he wanted to move in with his girlfriend so I moved into his old room and transferred here."
"So do your family live here in New York then?"
"Yeah they only live like 15 minutes away from the NYU campus so that's great." He said happily, "What about you? Where are you from?"
"I'm from San Francisco" I said, a frown forming on my face - I don't like to talk about my family. "That's cool. It's funny how I used to go to university there - maybe we were destined to meet." He said with a very philosophical look on his face - then he burst out laughing and I joined in. "So do you have any friends here yet?" I asked him, "Well I have my two cousins - Nico and Jason - they're the ones I'm living with, I also have Jason's sister Thalia, and my best friend Grover - he's the one who left earlier - I've known him for years, we went to the same high school, but other than that I don't really know anyone yet - I'm still settling in. Jason refuses to even tell me his girlfriend's name until I meet her."
"Oh I know Thalia, she's actually one of my best friends I met her when I was seven we were both..." I trailed off, not really wanting to tell Percy about how I ran away from home when I was a kid. Percy seemed to sense that I didn't want to talk about it and changed the subject, "Do you know anyone else I mentioned?"
"Grover's been in my English class for the last 2 years, but other than that I don't think so," In truth, I actually do know Jason because he's dating my best friend and roommate, Piper, but if I tell Percy I know him I'll have to tell him how and if Jason wants to keep Pipers name a secret then so be it. "Wait is Nico that small, goth kid?" Percy laughed, "Yep that's him." Just then Hazel, my other roommate, came into the shop. When she saw me she walked over, "Hey Annabeth! Who's this?" She asked, turning to look at Percy. ". Hi Hazel, this is Percy, Percy this is Hazel, she's one of my roommates."
"Well it's nice to meet you Percy, but Annabeth we have to go."
"What? Why?" I asked, maybe sounding a bit disappointed to be leaving Percy. Wait why am I disappointed? "We're going to Reyna's remember?"
"What are you talking about that's not until 5." I said, confused, "Annabeth it's 4.50." What is she talking about? Of course it's not 4.50 I got off work at 2. "Of course it's not, it can't be 4.50"
"Um yeah it is," she said showing me her phone screen "see?" CRAP! "What?! I can't have been here for almost 3 hours! I missed my physics class!" How could I have stayed here for 3 hours talking to Percy? "Annabeth I'm so so sorry I'm the reason you're here." Percy exclaimed, flustered. "Percy it's alright - I shouldn't have gotten distracted."
"O-okay sorry."
"It's fine but I have to go," I said, packing up my stuff "l'll see you around Persassy." He laughed, "Bye Annabeth." He waved, as I pulled Hazel out the door. "So what's going on with him?" Hazel asked, a grin spreading across her face. "Nothing." I said, quickly trying to shut her up. "It didn't look like nothing."
"Well it was. Let's go."
Okay, thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. I think I'll be able to get the third chapter up later today - I can barely leave the house because of Coronavirus so I don't have much else to do. I know the calculus I used in this wasn't college-level but I'm only 14 so I came up with one of the most confusing things I could think of. Please, please, please, review!!!
