After joining the Resistance, Rey didn't realize she would be "the spark" of the Resistance. After all, she only saw herself as a lowly scavenger from Jakku, the middle of nowhere. When she had discovered her force powers, however, Luke was eager to train her. He taught her the various forms of lightsaber combat, as well as the mysterious properties of the Force. It was overwhelming to her, at times, but she kept a level-head about it. After all, she didn't want to disappoint the General.
Where she found the most companionship, however, was in Poe Dameron and Han Solo. They seemed to understand Rey's cravings for normalcy at an almost suspicious level. Poe often told stories about his old pilot friend, Ben, as well as the fun times they had shared in the cockpit. Han had bonded with her over maintenance of the old ships in the hangar. He told her stories of his son, the boy who loved tinkering any ship he could get his hands on. They helped her get her mind off the complexity of Jedi training, yet they always seemed to contain a sadness to them. It was weird to her, how familiar the stories seemed to her, yet she had never heard them before. Her mind was playing games with her, she supposed.
As night fell on D'Qar, the Resistance base fell silent. Rey found herself drifting off into a dreamy sleep...
"Who are you?" Rey asked, frustrated. She had seen this man in her dreams several times now, and she never thought to ask his name. He replied, "Kylo." Rey replied, "Rey." Kylo asked, confused, "Why is the force connecting us, Rey?" "I don't know." Rey muttered, quietly. "Maybe you'll be able to save me."
Suddenly waking in a cold sweat, Rey was concerned. Who was Kylo? Would Master Luke know? She supposed it didn't hurt to ask. She would find Luke first thing in the morning to ask him.
Heading to Master Skywalker's house, she knocked urgently. Answering, Luke replied, "Come in, Rey." Of course he had sensed it was her. "Master Skywalker, I had a strange dream last night." Luke was intrigued. What vision had his young padawan received? "There's a man that has been appearing in my dreams for quite some time, but I never knew his name, until last night." Rey paused. Master Luke beckoned her to continue. "His name was...Kylo." Luke shuddered. He hadn't heard that name in years. It was the name of his padawan. The nephew he had failed, all those years ago. "What's the matter, Master?" Rey asked, concerned. Had she said something wrong? "Rey, there is something I need to tell you." Rey's eyes went wide. She had definitely said something wrong. "Kylo was...a student of mine. Until he fell to the darkness. I haven't seen him in years. He fled to the Outer Rim. The only one of us that sees him around here is Poe. And I doubt he would appreciate visitors." Rey was horrified. Why was she connected to this dark man?
Knowing there was more to the story than Skywalker was willing to tell her, she set off to talk to Poe. How was Poe connected to this man? "Good morning, Rey! How did you sleep?" Poe asked, bright. "Actually, about that, I need to ask you something important. Something Skywalker wouldn't tell me." Poe was confused. What could Rey be talking about? "Tell me about Kylo. All Luke would tell me is that you are close to him. Who is he?" Poe, nervous, replied, "He was my pilot buddy. But he struggled with the force. Maybe I should just have him tell you the story. I was heading to Hoth anyways, so I guess I could bring you along to meet the guy." Packing up the last of his things, Poe lead Rey into the cockpit of the Falcon.
"Before he was called Kylo Ren, he was my friend. We used to run all the training exercises together. I always liked gunning better, so he often took cockpit. He was one hell of a pilot." Poe finished. Although he missed the good old days, it made him sad to think of what his friend was going through. Hopefully, Rey could help him. After all, he supposed it was a "force" thing.
Requesting clearance, Poe asked, "Millennium Falcon, requesting landing at Launch Bay 6." A droid replied, "You are clear for landing, Dameron." Quickly lowering the ship unto the launch pad, Poe replied, "We're here, Rey."
Rey was nervous. What evil lurked within Kylo Ren? "Stay here until I come and get you." Poe instructed. He knew his old friend could have a fearsome temper when he was crossed. "Ben, I...Uh...brought a friend." Kylo was furious. The one thing he had told Poe the most was that he detested outsiders. "What did I tell you about bringing people here!" Kylo shouted, angry. "Trust me, she's important. Or else I wouldn't have brought her here. She might be able to help you." Kylo pondered on this for a second. Could it be Rey? Kylo replied, calmly, "I would like to meet her, then." Gesturing for Rey to come out, Poe looked calmer. It seemed as though Ben would listen to him, for once.
Rey nervously stepped out of the Falcon, into the harsh atmosphere of the planet Hoth. Glancing up, she saw a man in a black mask, with a slight resemblance to Darth Vader. Slowly stepping towards her, he muttered, "Rey."
