When Ashley returned to the Mountain Action Command Center, she was greeted by her boyfriend, Rocky Canyon.
"Hey Ashley, how was the visit to the clinic?" Rocky asked as he gave her a peck on the cheek.
Ashley looked at Rocky. "Good. I got both medications refilled except the doctor only gave me a week's supply of the Rivotril."
Rocky looked at her, surprised. "What? Did you tell him that Matt is gone until November 19th?"
Ashley sighed. "Yes, I told him this before he examined me."
"He examined you? Why?"
"Because I mentioned my sinus issues and that I take Nasonex for it. He probably wanted to make sure it isn't the flu. It's flu season, after all."
"What are you going to do when the Rivotril runs out next week?"
Ashley sighed. "Probably go back to the clinic and try to get a refill. Show the doctor my empty pill bottle. It will be a week since I filled the prescription; the doctor will see which date it was filled and hopefully this will prove to him – or her – that I'm not abusing the Rivotril. Hopefully I will get Dr. Sherman, Dr. Snow, or the new doctor I saw today – Dr. Zylbergold. He was nice. He looks like Costas Mandylor, who is cute."
"You wouldn't dump me for Dr. Zylbergold or Costas, would you?" Rocky teased.
Ashley looked at Rocky, smiling. "No way. I've known you for a long time. You're sweet, genuine, cute, and thoughtful. Besides, even though Costas is good looking, he might be a jerk. The same goes for Dr. Zylbergold. He could be a jerk too. I don't know him that well so I can't really say. Though I would never leave you just because I met someone that's both good looking and nice. You're one of a kind."
Rocky smiled as Ashley gave him a hug. He knew Ashley would never do that. Both he and Ashley were close in age – he was 34 years old, while Ashley was 30. They had been dating since 2017 but were friends since 2006, when Ashley first joined the Rescue Heroes.
Just then, Jake Justice entered the living room. He was wearing a Batman costume. "Where are you going? To a Halloween party?" asked Rocky.
Jake shook his head. "No, I'm taking Nick and Zachary Trick-Or-Treating."
"Oh," said Rocky.
All of the Rescue Heroes knew that Jake was part of a "Big Brother" program. He had become Nick's big brother when Nick was seven years old. Nick's younger brother, Zachary, was born shortly after. Jake liked both Nick and Zachary; Nick was now nine years old and Zachary would soon be two. He always gave Nick and Zachary gifts for their birthdays and Christmas. Both Nick and Zachary thought that Jake was a great big brother; they always looked forward to his visits since he would always do something fun with them.
"Have fun," said Ashley.
"I will," Jake replied, and he left.
After Jake left, Ashley, Rocky, Wendy Waters, Billy Blazes, and Jack Hammer gathered in the living room. They were planning to watch movies.
"What movie should we watch first?" asked Ashley.
"How about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre?" Jack suggested, as he drank some of his beer.
Wendy groaned. It was typical for Jack to suggest something Texas-related, since he hailed from Texas – something he wouldn't let anyone forget about.
"Isn't that film gory?" asked Ashley.
"Yea. But my childhood friend Mike Vogel is in it!" replied Jack.
"You can watch it if you want. But I'm not interested in the gore, sorry."
"Neither am I," said both Wendy and Rocky in unison.
After much deliberation, they all agreed to watch Untraceable and Would You Rather. Jack and Billy, the only people drinking beer, decided to watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre later.
When Would You Rather was over, Ashley and Wendy decided to go to bed. It was now 11:30 p.m.
Rocky got up, too. "I think I'll read for a while. I'm almost finished reading The Chalk Man. You were right, Ashley. It's great." Ashley grinned. Like Ashley, Rocky also liked mysteries and suspense.
"Where's Jake?" Billy wondered aloud. Just as he said Jake's name, Jake entered the living room.
"Where's who?" asked Jake.
"I was just wondering where you were. You left at 7:00 p.m. to take Nick and Zachary Trick-Or-Treating," replied Billy.
"Oh. We finished at 9:00 and I was heading home when I decided to check out the local bar. I heard that they were having a costume contest. The winner would receive a $100.00 gift card."
"Did you win?" Rocky appeared behind Billy.
Jake shook his head. "No, someone dressed as Jason – the dead guy who wears the hockey mask from that Friday the 13th film won. Apparently he was the same height as Jason. He also had a fake machete, the same one Jason uses."
Rocky nodded. "That was probably in his favour."
"Probably."
"Well, I'm going to finish reading the book Ashley loaned me. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Rocky left. Ashley followed. On her way upstairs she heard Jake say that he would watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She hoped that Billy, Jack, and Jake went to bed after the movie was over. Everyone would be up by 8:00 a.m. – they always were.
