This chapter is twice as short.
Whoops.
Here's part two to my little two-shot fluff fic.
Still no ships, though it may feel like it.
Chapter two: Colors
Line Break
The next morning was full of the usual sibling rivalry. It was so lively that it almost felt like last night never happened. April managed to catch Donnie in the lab, working on something. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
"Hey Donnie," she greeted. Donnie turned to her with a grin on his face, but he looked slightly uncomfortable.
"What's up, April?" he asked. April smiled at him.
"Nothing much," she said. She sat down on one of his worktables and watched him start playing around with his latest invention. She looked at her feet in thought, debating whether to bring up last night or not...
"You want to know what song that was, don't you?" Donnie asked knowingly. He wasn't looking at her. April sighed and said yes.
"Master Splinter taught us that song," Donnie said quietly. April leaned closer to hear him. "Well, just me and Mikey, anyway... it's kind of a sad song, but Mikey and I have always loved it..."
"I can understand why," April said. "It's a beautiful song."
"It has a lot of meaning to it," Donnie agreed. "The color orange represents strength and endurance and is commonly associated with the sun and happiness."
"That's Mikey in a nutshell," April said with a chuckle. Donnie smirked, still not looking at her.
"That's why I love it so much," he said. "He's the sunshine of our family. We wouldn't be the same if our sunshine was suddenly gone..."
April frowned in thought.
"What do the rest of your colors mean?" she asked. Donnie finally turned to her and offered a warm smile.
"Well, blue symbolizes trust, loyalty, confidence, etc. The color represents calm, like the ocean. Red is most oftenly associated with energy, danger, strength, and determination, but it also represents courage, leadership, passion and love. In other words, it's an emotional color."
April laughed at that. It seemed as though Leo, Raph, and Mikey's colors represented them perfectly.
"What about purple?" she asked. Donnie turned a little red.
"Purple stands for power and luxury as well as ambition, wisdom, dignity, creativity, and magic. However, it does also stand for gloom and frustration," he said. April smiled at him.
"What color do you think suits me?" she asked. Donnie smirked.
"That's an easy green," he said. "It represents growth, peace, and protection. You've grown quickly in your abilities."
It was April's turn to blush now. This made Donnie chuckle.
"What about Casey?"
Donnie looked down in thought for a second.
"All honesty? Either purple or red. Casey is frustrating, but you can tell he cares, whether he shows it or not."
April smiled, satisfied with that answer.
"Thanks, D," she said. Donnie gave her an adorable smile and turned back to his work. April watched him for a moment longer, content with their conversation. She may never understand why Donnie had avoided singing to Mikey yesterday, but at least she understood the turtles a little better. Donnie really managed to sum them up perfectly.
With a smile, April left the lab. Maybe one day she would find the courage to ask him about his singing. For now, she was determined to work on her inner green.
