After everything that had happened, it seemed way too easy, but at this point, Daniel was happy to accept easy. His head was still not feeling quite right, though he was grateful that most of the dizziness had gone away. He didn't expect the headache to go away so easily, but he was looking forward to the soft pillows in the infirmary. Oh, and the pain-killers. Definitely looking forward to the pain-killers.
They were led back out of the tunnel. He hadn't managed to get a good look at it before, what with being unconscious when they were brought in, but he had to admit that it was quite a feat of engineering. They had constructed a ceiling on the entrance of the tunnel that could be lifted with a pulley system hidden in the tunnel. When it was closed, the ground looked perfectly normal. It was no wonder these people had never been seen.
The leader, who had finally introduced himself as Caddell, gladly gave Sam the part they needed for the DHD. As Sam worked to replace the part, Daniel and Mitchell spoke with Caddell. It seemed that less than a year after SG-4's visit to the planet, a minor Goa'uld showed up and started wreaking havoc. These people had quickly dismissed the Goa'uld's claim to be a god, and because of that, he did his best to make their lives a living hell. Many of the people from the town had been taken by the Jaffa to be slaves. The ones that were left behind – mostly the old who couldn't work or the very young – left the town to seek shelter in villages nearby. Caddell was from one of those villages. His people had taken in the refugees. They had decided that they weren't going to stand by and watch while this Goa'uld or another one abducted the people of their planet, so they set up the abandoned town as a trap and created their base next to the Star Gate, always ready for an attack.
As Caddell spoke, Daniel tried hard to listen attentively, but he couldn't stop glancing back at Sam to see if she was finished. His skills as a diplomat were lost in his impatience to get back to Earth. Finally, Sam announced that she had finished, and the Gate was ready to dial. He, Sam, and Mitchell shook hands with Caddell and his people and promised to return soon to work out a trade agreement.
When the Star Gate filled with the blue event horizon, Daniel could have cried with relief. The waiting was finally over, and he couldn't step through that Gate fast enough.
