Scene 9
It was the day for the final chunin exams, and Kaiya felt uneasy.
Something was wrong; she felt it.
It was a familiar feeling she held, but it couldn't be.
Why did she sense him so near?
Wouldn't he have been caught?
Kaiya tried shaking the feeling away as she double-checked herself in the mirror.
Long black hair adequately brushed.
Her outfit was a white kimono top with long sleeves and a black skirt with white shorts underneath.
Kaiya tied her laced boots and buckled her leg pack on her thigh.
As she was headed out the door, she stared at the picture of Minato, Ms. Kushina, and her altogether.
I miss you guys more than ever, she thought.
And walked out the door to only see Kakashi waiting for her.
"It's the big day." he greeted.
With a soft smile, she replied, "Always."
As they walked, Kakashi added, "I have to do some last-minute training with Sasuke, but I told him I needed to wash up. I insisted he relax, but he won't stop practicing."
Kaiya sighed, "That boy… I'm sure Naruto is doing the same thing as well."
"They're two sides of a coin, those boys." shook Kakashi's head.
Kakashi then looked at Kaiya while they walked, "You're with the Third Hokage today, aren't you?"
She nodded, "Yes, they assigned me to him today. However….,' she stopped in her tracks, 'I feel like something bad is going to happen, Kakashi. I'm worried." She clutched her necklace with the stone Kakashi had given her.
Kakashi hugged her, "I'm sure everything will go by smoothly Kaiya, Nothing will happen. The arena is heavily guarded today. Nothing could happen."
She nodded, and they came to where the two would split ways.
"Remember, I'll be there as soon as I can, okay?" Kakashi mentioned.
"I'll hold you up to that." Kaiya smiled.
…
The exams were getting ready to begin, and Kaiya followed the Hokage to his seat, where he greeted the Fourth Kazekage of the Sand Village.
Instantly the Kazekage's eyes went to Kaiya.
A stare so intense it gave her uneasy feelings.
She remembered at her briefing with the Hokage prior he mentioned:
"Kaiya, I have a terrible feeling about today. We need to be on high alert. I requested you as my companion because you are one of the most skilled shinobi's."
If the Hokage felt it too, then what was to happen today?
"Hokage, will you introduce me to your companion today?" asked the Kazekage as they sat down.
The exams were just about to start.
"Hmm? Oh, This is Kaiya. It's interesting now that I think about it. The last time an exam was this popular was when you were attending, correct Kaiya?" he smiled.
Kaiya smiled back, "The Exams are about to begin master Hokage."
And just like that, they started.
They watched as the genin performed gallantly.
As Naruto fought Negi of the Hyuga clan, Kaiya prayed.
"Please let Naruto win, please."
As the match progressed, Kaiya gasped when Naruto performed the Rasengan.
A Jitsu, the Fourth Hokage, had created.
Instantly her heart warmed.
No matter what will be thrown at Naruto, he will win, she was sure of it.
And that was true. Naruto defeated Neji amazingly.
But it came with a cost.
Delving into the Nine-tails chakra.
Kaiya knew all those who knew were wondering what this would mean for Naruto in the future.
What it would mean for the village in the future.
As the exams progressed, it was finally Sasuke's turn against Gaara.
However, Sasuke was nowhere to be seen.
Kaiya looked at the crowd and tried to see if she could spot Kakashi.
He said he'd be her.
Time passed by, and just as they were going to call the match, a gust of wind came by, and Kakashi and Sasuke appeared.
"Sorry, but traffic was busy." joked Kakashi.
Kaiya sighed.
That man… she chuckled in her head.
The match then progressed, and Kakashi left Sasuke to it.
Kaiya so much wanted to go to Kakashi but knew she couldn't.
However, something caught her eye.
The Kazekage's stare on Sasuke.
Something about this stare reminded her of someone.
She gulped.
Swallowing the thoughts away.
No, that man is gone. He can't be here. He can't.
However, little did Kaiya know that both Kakashi and the Third Hokage had kept a secret from Kaiya.
That Orochimaru had been spotted during the second trial of the exams.
That Sasuke now bore the cursed mark just like Kaiya does.
"We can't tell her in any circumstance Kakashi, Who knows what would happen if Kaiya learned her abuser is near." The Hokage told Kakashi.
He nodded in agreement.
Some years ago there was a scare with Kaiya.
Kakashi walked to Kaiya's that night after meeting with the Hokage.
About four years ago, Kaiya swore she felt Orochimaru following her.
This lasted for months, and as the days went by, Kaiya's sanity wore off into the worst.
Kaiya had stopped eating and would flinch at any sound and refused to leave her apartment.
Kakashi had to take care of her physically and force her to eat and help her wash because she refused to leave the safety of her bed.
Nightmares ruled her life.
But the worst happened when Kaiya left her apartment in the middle of one night.
She ventured to the woods, and they couldn't find her for a week.
Kakashi was beginning to lose hope and went into a depression until finally, he found her.
She was where he had found her in the beginning.
In the same cell room from all those years ago.
On the ground, crying.
Kakashi never wanted anything like that to happen again, so he hid the truth from Kaiya.
Before anyone knew it, the entire arena fell asleep due to genjutsu except a few who knew how to fight it.
Kaiya tried to protect the Hokage, but he quickly pushed her when the Kazekage came at him.
Kaiya could barely make out what the two men were saying due to all the smoke around them.
Butt as it started clearing off she heard it,
"...Sensei, you even brought a little bird for me to eat."
