Chapter 15
Everyone sat around most of the night watching and waiting. Lou watched Tessa sitting snuggled up next to Jimmy slightly dozing. She huffed. Rachel noticed and made her way over.
"What is wrong with you? You should be happy for him. You better start showing it."
Lou rolled her eyes and looked back outside. Rachel glared at her as she walked over to make some coffee for everyone. Lou turned to see Tessa ease up and walk in the other room with Wes. Jimmy sat still looking outside. She walked up behind him.
"You don't know her like that." She said.
"Don't even start."
"Look you don't know a thing about her. She ain't gonna bring you nothing but trouble."
"Why do you care?"
"I care for you Jimmy. I don't want to see you get hurt."
"I reckon it's only ok for you to do that."
"That's not true."
"Ain't it. You only used me. Made me fall deeper for you just to toss me away. I was just holding his place until he came to his senses and you knew it all along."
"It wasn't like that!"
"Step away from me!"
Lou ran out the front door crying. Jimmy watched her go. He took a deep breath. He stood and walked out behind her. Tessa came back into the room to find Jimmy gone. She ran to Wes.
"Jimmy went outside!"
"He knows better than to do that!" Yelled Wes as Teaspoon, Rachel, and Kid gathered.
"Where's Lou, Kid?" Asked Wes.
"I ain't sure."
"Tessa?!" Yelled Wes.
The others stood in shock as they watched her hold her hands out in front of her. She closed her eyes. Wes waited patiently.
"She has her. She is leading him away. I can see them running in the moonlight. They are waiting."
"Where?" Asked Wes.
"To a pond."
"We know the way." Said Teaspoon as they all ran outside.
"Noah, Buck, Ike watch the station. Rachel is here! Cody bring your rifle."
Jimmy yelled at Lou to stop. Suddenly it dawned on him. Tessa's words rang back to him. She will use anyone or anything against him. He stopped. Lou ran a short distance away. He looked around. He hadn't realized that he had run so far out. The moon lit the trees and the grass casting shadows all over. He thought he heard something to his side. He pulled one of his guns.
Tessa and Wes ran as fast as they could. They went into the trees. The long shadows hiding what was in front of them.
Jimmy watched as Lou disappeared. He heard laughter to his other side. He looked up as clouds covered the moon and a fog rose from the water to make it hard to see. He saw movement in front of him. He strained to see. Lou emerged from the fog. She was crying. Jimmy noticed Kimberly. She held a gun to Lou's head.
"Kimberly?"
"Sure if that's the name I gave you at the time. How are you Jimmy? Dying once wasn't enough for you, you had to do it again."
"Let her go."
"Drop your guns and I will be glad to."
Jimmy watched Lou shake her head. He tossed his guns down to the ground.
"Now, let her go."
Kimberly laughed as she let Lou run over to him. He pushed Lou behind him.
"You are a pitiful waste of a man. You still protect her after what she did to you. So pathetic."
Kimberly raised her gun and started pulling the trigger. Jimmy saw her start to fire. He yelled out as Lou screamed. He held his hands out. The lead balls stopped right in front of them. Lou's eyes got big as she watched them stop in mid air. Jimmy growled in anger.
"I've had enough!" He yelled throwing his hands down.
Lou watched as Kimberly had the ultimate look of fear and surprise cross her face. The lead balls slammed into her. She fell back onto the ground dead. Jimmy turned and hugged Lou.
"Oh my God! Oh my God!" Lou said.
Laughter sounded from the darkness again as the clouds got thicker. Jimmy pushed Lou away from him.
"Run."
She turned and raced off into the fog.
