January 31st dear diary today we went to a a community meeting about a fundraiser for a local family who had lost there home in a fire. We decided on several events including a junior fashion design contest and fashion show. Susie and I are signed up as a team we are using the gang for models. We have 2 weeks to design and make enough clothes for each model to go out on the runway 3 times. We went back to her house and started sketching our design ideas on paper and coloring them in. we then went and talked to mom about the material she is donating to each team. We spent the rest of the afternoon sketching and looking at materials. Going to go help mom make dinner so I will talk to you tomorrow.
February 1st dear diary Susie and I spent the morning at the library deciding on our theme for the contest. Each theme has to consist of 3 parts we decided to do modernized Disney characters from old to new . Which is ok we emailed the judges who green lit our plan as you had to submit a plan to earn your spot. We then spent hours designing outfit ideas and sketching them out before going and getting measurements for our models.
Elsie and Theresa are in the under 10 age group for the contest the younger kids will be there models. They decided on a from country to city theme which also got approved the rules state we all have to design and cut the pieces out but an adult can help with the sewing as long as we do most of it. We all headed to the shop and grabbed fabric and other items we would need. We can go back 3 more times for material but after that we would need to pay for it so we are also using some of our fabric stashes. I better sign off mom needs me to watch Clara while she takes the other girls to dance and gymnastics.
February 2nd dear diary we spent the day working on school work and the contest. We set Elsie and Theresa up with colored pencils and a graph paper design book so they can sort of see there ideas on paper. This is also a great way for them to work on measuring skills and adding and subtracting inches and feet. Theresa is back in home school as she has a mild learning disability so she needs to learn at her own pace. Susie and I were using the same type of sketch pad as the younger 2 to work on our ideas. The others worked on there math as well we stopped for a quick lunch and got back to work I listened for grandma as her carer had to leave early as her son may of broken his elbow. We worked until Ali and Alex brought the younger kids home. I had the little girls start there home work while Elsie and I made a taco tater tot hot dish from one of her cook books for an early dinner as mom had a meeting. While Elsie did the dishes I checked Emily's math homework and Clara snuggled with grandma and read her a story. I then put the little girls into bed while Elsie took her shower and got herself to bed. Going to go make tea for grandma and I before bed I will talk to you tomorrow.
February 3rd we spent today at the library working on English and history projects we read while the 2 younger girls typed there family tree reports. We then went home and worked on the contest I was using a special pen to trace a pattern on to a piece of fabric Susie was making the pattern pieces. The younger girls were sketching in there book and deciding on colors while everyone else did home work. We then relaxed until Susie and Chucky went and picked the kids up from the bus stop using my wagon for Clara as her leg still is bugging her. When the girls got home I set them up with there home work so it could be done early as we were going out to dinner to celebrate some news we got today.
Mom officially earned the best quilt shop in California we are so proud of her. We went to a nicer Italian restaurant for dinner mom and grandma had chicken Parmesan with potato dumpling soup. The little girls had Alfredo shrimp pasta and a bean and pasta soup. I decided on the same soup as grandma and mom along with a double order of calamari. We then went and grabbed a few groceries and new School shoes for Emily as her old ones are getting to small. When we got home I put the girls in bed and mom helped grandma get ready for bed. Going to make tea for grandma Elsie mom and I talk to you tomorrow.
February 4th dear diary we spent the day at the house doing home work so we can take the rest of the week off to focus on the contest. We started the day working on a huge English project that involves a speech and a 3 page paper. We then worked on our history papers and models on our subject. While we were doing this I had Elsie go over her report on Rosa Parks so she can get used to reading allowed as it scares her. While we were doing this Susie was having Theresa do the same thing on her report about Harriet Tubman. We stopped for a short lunch break before hitting the books again. I asked Zack for help with my science homework while Elsie helped Theresa with there English home work and Kimi went over the math assignment with Kya. We then went to the big projects again I worked on my model bus for my bus boycott report while Zack made a replica of a school for his report. The others were working on various items for there reports. When the girls were dropped of by Kate and Phil we worked on there home work at the kitchen counter while I watched Elsie start Schnitzel for dinner. After dinner I gave the little 2 there bath while Elsie helped mom with cleaning up the kitchen. I will talk to you tomorrow Elsie just called up its time for tea with mom and Grandma.
February 5th dear diary we spent the day working on contest work we designed a few other outfits we had come up with. I worked on a skirt design while Susie helped the younger 2 learn to cut out pattern pieces. The others were working on school work while we did this at 1 point I gave Zack money to run and grab 2 new pairs of scissors from moms shop each team had been given 2 hundred $ for materials. When he got back I started cutting our first skirt out and piecing it together as its patch work. While I did this Susie was measuring Lil again so we could fit this skirt exactly for her. The younger 2 were cutting out pieces of there patterns and deciding which fabric for which piece. We stopped for lunch and I sat with grandma so her carer could take her son to the ortho to get the pins out of his elbow. When the kids got home I had them start there homework while Elsie and I made seafood stuffed mushrooms home aid breaded mushrooms and mozzarella sticks for an appetizer dinner. I helped mom clean up the kitchen while Elsie had Clara read to her and Emily studied for her math test. When the younger 2 were in bed I braided Elsie's hair then she pinned mine up for me. We are going to have tea with mom and grandma so talk to you tomorrow.
February 6th dear diary we spent the day at mom's shop working on pieces for the contest I had mom show me how to put elastic in the waist of a skirt. Susie was having mom's assistant show her how to make a button hole using the machine. While we were doing this the younger girls with help from another assistant were pinning pieces to get ready to cut them out. We stopped long enough for a quick lunch before having Kimi come try on her jumper. From there I need to re measure Zack's arms as I was having an issue with his sleeves on a jacket. We then met the little girls at home they were waiting with Zack. I asked them to start there homework as mom was heading up to bed with a side ache. After a couple hours mom let me know we needed to go to the emergency room her side ache was worse. I called Zack to sit with grandma and the youngest 2 while Elsie and I went with mom. When we arrived we were taken back right away it turns out she is dealing with a kidney stone poor mom. We then headed home so she can rest talk to you tomorrow.
February 8th dear diary sorry for not writing yesterday mom was feeling super sick and grandmas carer was home with an extremely sick little girl. So I was in charge of grandma and Elsie. We spent today working on our clothes for the contest since moms feeling quite a bit better. We measured and cut pieces then stated sewing them together I was watching grandma as her carer is still out with her daughter who is still extremely sick. She showed me a trick for basting a seam as I was struggling with it. We made a light supper and are now relaxing talk to you tomorrow.
February 9th dear diary we spent the day working really hard on contest stuff we evened out a hem on one of Kate's skirts. We pinned the hem of Ali's finale dress so I could finish it this evening we had Phil try his jacket for the last outfit on as the shoulders were causing us trouble. We made our 2nd fabric run as we had run out of a couple we needed we also grabbed buttons elastic bias tape zippers snaps and a few things like that. The little girls also needed stuff so they came with us. After school they worked with there models and did some measuring and hemming. We then relaxed and watched a few movies before every one but Susie and her sisters headed out Charles went with Ali since there parents are staying with Edwin for 2 weeks so they can help him get ready to come home.
