Chapter 15
.
Gary Fredo wasn't sure what to make of Samantha Larabee. She seemed rich, entitled, but maybe she genuinly loved Angel and wanted to see her killer arrested. On the other hand, maybe she was the killer and was trying to cast suspicion away from herself. The video she showed him showed Jimmy Tinker getting angry, but he never hit or specifically threatened to hurt Angel. Angel accused him of stealing her hunting knife, but all that proved was she suspected him. Jimmy tried to cast suspicion on Mary Elizabeth. If Mary Elizabeth was a vegetarian, she probably wasn't very experienced with how to handle a hunting knife, and the autopsy said it was done by someone who wasn't very good with a knife. Samantha could have stolen Angel's hunting knife, but she was an experienced hunter, probably more familiar with a knife than the killer. Although, after what Samantha said about doctor Hayward's past, Gary was just a ittle suspicious of the official autopsy. And all this stuff about the Druid Order. In Gary's experience secret societies did exist. They were usually astronomy clubs for rich people who took themselves far too seriously. The working class had bowling leagues, the wealthy had secret societies. The Druid Order was probably guilty of adultery and draft dodging, but it was a far cry from that to murder and treason. At this point Gary still considered Michael Morgan to be his top suspect. The tattoo might just be a youthful mistake, he could have just been too scared of identity theft to throw away his old driver's lisence, but when all of this combined with his hanging out with known child molestors, and the victim, Gary was very suspicious of Michael Morgan. Still, Michael submitted to a DNA test, and it seemed likely he was familiar enough with the legal system to refuse if he was guilty. Perhaps one of the others from the group, someone who wasn't yet a registered sex-offender. Gary decided to go to Michael's house, since he was holding another one of his "Bible Study" groups tonight. He planned to covertly observe, take pictures of who else was at this meeting. Some people Gary had seen around town, but he didn't know their names. There were the six convicted child-molestors, Michael and his mother welcomed them into their home. This mother didn't look too much older than Michael, Gary suspected it had been a teen pregnancy. Mary Elizabeth came as well, and she brought someone with her. Gary recognized this other person, she was Angel's 14 year old daughter Abby. Gary hadn't been planned to get involved, but a 14 year old, he decided he had to get involved. He got out of his car and introduced himself to the two girls. Michael didn't seem happy about this, but Gary really didn't give a damn what he thought right now.
.
Gary: Hello Abby, Mary Elizabeth.
Abby: You're the agent trying to solve my sister's murder.
Gary: Yes I am. I was just wondering what you're doing here.
Mary Elizabeth: We're here for Bible Study.
Gary: I was speaking to Abby.
Abby: She's right, it's a religious thing.
Gary: I wasn't aware you were a member of this group.
Abby: I wasn't, but we're having a little private tribue to Angel. She was a member.
Gary: I understand that the memorial service is tomorrow.
Abby: Frankly, I need this right now.
Gary: I don't know how to gently say this, so I'm going to just say it. It's entirely possible that one or more of the people in this room could be the killer, and I'm nervous for your safety.
Abby: It's hard to explain, but I do need to be around these people right now.
Gary: Oh, you aren't by any chance thinking of a little revenge tonight.
Abby: I'm not.
Gary: And you're sister's gun?
Abby: As far as I know it's still in my sister's bedroon drawer.
Gary: Does your mother know you're here?
Abby: Yes, I'll call her now.
.
Abby used her cellphone to make a call. She then handed Gary the phone. He recognized the voice on the other hand as being that of Carmen Flint. She sounded like she'd been drinking, not that he could blame her. She knew exactly where Abby was, and she was suprisingly okay with this. What was it about Michael Morgan that noone even considered the possibility that he could be the killer. Gary had no choice but to let Abby go inside Michael's house with Mary Elizabeth.
