It was Saturday night Nicole was leaving tomorrow night. Nicole had just woken up from another nightmare. She was in the bathroom trying to calm down. She washed her face. When she looked back up she could see John in the doorway in the mirror shirtless.
"Did you have another nightmare Nicole?" He asked.
"I'm fine John." "Go back to bed." "I'll be there in a minute."
After about two minutes she came back to bed. John was still awake waiting for her. She got in bed and snuggled up to him. He put his arms around her.
"What is wrong Nicole?" John asked concerned.
"Nothing I'm fine." "Just hold me please."
"I hope that you know you can trust me with anything."
"I know that."
"Good."
The next morning the alarm went off. John shut it off.
"No." Nicole said tiredly. "Not already." "That alarm means I'm closer to going back to LA and leaving you."
"I know." "Wanna take a shower together?"
She opened her eyes. "Do we have time to do that?"
"If we're quick." They got up and went into the bathroom.
John was getting ready to leave for the day.
"I'll be packed and ready by the time you get back." Nicole said.
"Ok." They kissed. "I love you."
"I love you too."
Later that night before her flight Nicole and John were at a romantic dinner.
"Uh-oh." John said. "You have that sad look on your face again."
"Expect this time I don't want to go."
"I don't want you to go either."
"You know if I could I'd go on the road with you permanently."
"I know, there's nothing I would want more." "I love having you with me."
"I love it to." "This week has been so fun." "Now it's back to reality, the diner."
"I've been thinking, you don't have to work at the diner anymore if you don't want to."
"I have to pay my rent John."
"Yeah but what if I give you money every month?" "As much as you need for monthly expenses."
"That's a very generous offer and I love you for it, but no."
"Why?"
"I don't want you're money John." "I think it's sweet that you want to financially support me but I can't let you do that." "The fact that you have money and are a celebrity means nothing to me." "I love you, just John, none of the other stuff matters."
Nicole and John were standing outside of his car at the airport. They kissed. As much as she tried to resist Nicole's eyes welled up with tears.
"Aw baby don't." John said. "It's ok."
"I hate this."
"I know." "I love you."
"I love you too." She gave him one last kiss. "I'll text you when I get home."
"Ok bye.
"Bye."
A week later Nicole flew to Boston to her yearly follow-up appointment to test for leukemia. One thing that she liked about this test, was she got the results while she was still at the doctor. The doctor came in.
"Good news." The doctor said. "You are still in remission, you tested negative."
She breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank god."
"Were you worried?"
"I've been having horrible nightmares about my cancer coming back and dying."
"When did that start?"
"Shortly after I started dating my boyfriend."
"Does he know about the leukemia?"
"No and I don't want to tell him."
"Why?"
"I don't want him to look or think of me differently." "If they've had it to that's different but I don't like tell people about it, if I don't have to."
"Do you love your boyfriend?"
"More then anything in the world."
"Then you should tell him."
"I can't."
"Why do you think you're having these nightmares?"
"I'm afraid of being taken away from him."
"Would you like to try the anxiety medication I keep suggesting?" "I think it would really help your nightmares."
"I'll try it." "The nightmares are really scaring me."
"I'll write the prescription."
"Ok."
