15. Future

"My Sultan, I am honored. Truly."

She senses hesitation. "It's an offer, not a command."

"Surely your father—or your husband, at least—"

"Both agree: you're the man for the job."

Indeed, the day she earned her title, he earned his. His faith in her—in the kingdom—above life, honor, even the law itself… She saw. A true leader. A kindred spirit.

"You are the future of Agrabah," she echoes, and he salutes her.

"I gratefully accept."

"Then, Vizier Hakim," she grins, "your first task: find us a new Captain of the Guard worthy of their predecessor."

A/N: A point of clarification - I could very well be wrong, but it's my interpretation that when Jasmine's father gives her his ring and names her Sultan at the end of the film, Jasmine is the primary ruler from that point forward even though he's still living. That being the case, I do think he would still play an active role as her adviser until, well, this scene happens.
