Beautiful You Chapter 10

I own nothing!

When we reached the clinic down in LaPush, Sue rushed me back to a little room that they had set up. She looked my ankle over and shook her head.

"You're going to need an x-ray," she declared, causing me to curse. Sue raised an eyebrow, giving me the look only a mother could master.

"Sorry," I mumbled, blushing. She smiled and walked out of the room to get a wheelchair for me.

"I can carry her," Jared offered, smiling. Sue paused and made eye contact with the overgrown wolf, raising an eyebrow when Jared grinned over at me. Her eyes widened and she gasped quietly, pulling Jared's attention away from me.

"What? What's wrong?" I asked, worried that I had done something horrible. Jared nodded at Sue, who quickly turned her attention to me.

"Nothing, Bella," she assured me. "I just forgot that Jared was in here and he startled me."

Turning to Jared, she added, "It'll be safer for her if she rides in a wheelchair. At least until we get the results back. But thank you for offering, Jared." Sue smiled at me before turning to make her way out of the room.

"You don't have to stay and wait with me," I told Jared after a few minutes. "I don't want to ruin your Saturday."

"You are not ruining my Saturday," he promised, as he took a seat beside me in a very uncomfortable looking chair.

"I'm sure I'm keeping you from something," I insisted, moving to adjust my leg on the table.

"The only thing you are keeping me from is listening to Paul exaggerate his latest conquest and Embry complaining about not being able to talk to his friend, Quil."

"Why can't he talk to Quil?" I asked, remembering stories about Jacob and his two best friends.

"Well," He stared, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'm not really allowed to talk about it."

"Oh, okay," I replied, still curious but knowing it wasn't any of my business.

Jared sighed and stood up from his chair and began pacing. He started talking to himself, mumbling quietly so that I could only get a few words of whatever he was trying to work out.

"...I can see how he always wants to tell her…" I heard. "...it's completely painful to not do as she asks…"

I had no clue what else he was worrying over, as Sue came back in with the wheelchair. Jared stopped pacing and was quickly at my side, helping me to gently sit down without moving my ankle.

"Jared, you will need to stay here. We will only be a few minutes," Sue reassured him. "Why don't you let Sam know how things are going?" she added, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Not a bad idea," he agreed, walking behind us as I was rolled out of the little room.

He followed us all the way to the only other side room in the tribe had set up with an older looking xray machine. Jared walked in front of me and knelt down to my level.

"Do you need help getting on the table in there?" he wondered.

"No, I think I can get it. Thank you," I assured him.

"Okay. I'm going to go and talk to Sam for a minute and let him know what's happening. I promise I will be right back," he said, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.

"That's fine," I assured him, blushing, as I wondered why this gorgeous guy would be so worried about me. "You don't even have to come back if you don't want to. Go and enjoy your Saturday! I can call my dad."

Jared laughed and shook his head. "Bell, I'll be back." He grinned and winked before he turned and walked toward the front door.

"Let's get you up on this table," Sue said as she pushed me closer. She tried to help me by putting my arm around her next, but I felt like I was pulling her down. After several tries, I was finally on the table, ready for the picture. After several painful moves of my foot to get a good shot of the whole ankle, I was finally able to get off of the rough steel.

"Sue, why would Jared need to go tell Sam about my ankle?" I asked as she rolled me back toward the original room.

"Well, Sam is the Alpha of the pack," she started, giggling when I gasped. I didn't know that she was in on the furry little secret.

"Leah told me you saw Jacob turn this morning," Sure replied, seeing the questions I had on the tip of my tongue before I could ask her.

"Why would the alpha of the pack need to know that I was getting an x-ray to see if I was broken or not? I'm not part of the pack," I asked.

Sue raised an eyebrow at me. "Aren't you? Your best friend is the rightful Alpha and future chief of our tribe. Your father is best friends with two of the council members and is currently out fishing at the moment, not knowing at all that his daughter has been injured. Jared went to tell Sam so that he could let Charlie know."

"I could call him," I said as she was rolling me into the room. "There's no need to make a fuss over me. I'm the big, fat, klutz that fell."

"Please don't talk about yourself like that," Jared pleaded as he walked into the room as I was struggling to get myself out of the chair. He strolled over and gently picked me up, placing me where I needed to go.

"Let me go look at these scans and I will be back soon," Sue said as she wheeled the chair back out of the room.

"Thank you," I murmured, wincing as I tired to adjust my leg.

"Are you in pain,Bell?" Jared asked, moving closer as if to try and fix it.

"A little," I admitted. "But Sue sang sweet promises of pills that will knock me on my ass so that I won't feel it for a while. "That sounds like a pretty good song."

"It will be a chart topped," I promised him, smiling slightly, causing Jared to chuckle and shake his head.

"Did Sam call my dad?" I asked after a few moments of silence. I had no clue what to talk to a man like Jared about. And make no mistake, the man standing beside me could never be mistaken for a little boy. Not only by his sexier then legal good looks, but by his kind soul. I might have only known him for a few hours, but he has shown more selflessness in that time then I had seen in my whole life.

"Call your dad?" Jared asked, confused.

"Yeah. Sue said that Same would want to know how my ankle is so he could call Charlie and let him know what's happened to me," I answered.

"Oh yeah," he replied as if he just remembered. "I filled him in on what happened. He wants to wait until the x-ray comes back so that he has all of the information before making Charlie worry."

"That actually makes sense, I guess. So, you will have to go find him before we leave?" I wondered.

Jared's grin widened, extremely happy about the sentence I had just said. The pain must be making me delirious. Why would something I said make him grin like that, I asked myself, confused.

"I will just call him and let him know," he assured me.

Sue came back in a few minutes later. "Well, do you want the good news or the bad news first?"

I sighed and painfully adjusted my leg again. "Give it to me, Sue. It's a fracture, right?"

"Wow, I'm impressed!" she exclaimed, smiling at me.

"I've done this a few times," I replied.

"What's the good news?" Jared asked, hovering beside me as if he wanted to fix the fracture right away.

"You get to pick the color you want your cast," Sue replied, pulling out a sheet that had different colors on it.

"What about black?" I decided.

"Black? Isn't that a little depressing?" the handsome wolf wondered.

"No, not at all. I have some silver and white paint pens that people can sign my cast with. Plus, it's different then the normal blues and pinks that most people pick," I answered.

"Black it is," Sue smiled and began the painful process of putting the cast on.

"Here is a prescription for some mild pain relievers and a note to your school on the restrictions you will have for the next month and a half," Sue informed me, handing me the two pieces of paper.

"Well, at least one good thing has come out of this," I sighed as I folded the sheets of paper to put in my pocket.

"What's that?" Jared wondered.

"I get to sit out of PE for six weeks."
