Okay guys, here's the first "filler" chapter of the story (granted you could say Chapter 5 was that, but really that was Ragna still getting used to the world around him and the first appearance of the Fang Hunter). It's to help set up a bit of a status quo that will be happening with the RWBY cast until the big battle in Vol 3. Let's just say this is something that I've planned for a while and will play into how Ruby and friends deal with some of the tougher enemies later in the story (and not pulling wins out of nowhere like how it has been going with the canon story).

Chapter 17: Ragna's Boot Camp

A few days after the incident at Forever Fall...

*BEEP* *BEEP*

Ragna's alarm went off as he got out of bed with a grin on his face as he knows full what will be happening this day. He had spoken with Ozpin and Glynda for a while and now he had the chance to do so.

He quickly got washed up and did his usual routine as he got ready for the day. He was in the middle of dressing himself up as he heard a knock on the door.

*KNOCK KNOCK*

"It's Adrian." The Kreiger said on the other side of the door.

"Come in." Ragna said as he finished changing clothes.

Adrian had brought some doughnuts with him and Ragna had made some coffee before getting into the shower. The two then sat down and ate as they traded ideas on what he wanted to tackle for today. Ragna wanted to cover strength and endurance training meaning he would have them carry heavy loads over long distances and having weights on them when they sparred or underwent regular exercises. He figured with the latter they could steadily increase their own physically to better tackle future exercises he's come up with.

Adrian added having him cover basic hand to hand training with the students as he knew that ones like Ruby needed to help to become less dependent on their weapons. Ruby's case in particular was a serious one as they knew from Yang that she desperately needed to do so.

"Well, better get ready Adrian." Ragna said. "I can't wait for my period to happen. I'll be working the students into the ground to improve their cooperation, teamwork, and physical abilities."

"I honestly feel like this could be seen as cathartic for you due to the training Mr. Siegfried had given you in the past." Adrian said with a smirk. He had been made well aware of how the Gallian General trained his family's own Royal Guard, his kids, and the hybrid through enough conversations. The man was a slave driver in how much he pushed them to be at the best humans could achieve, despite all of the complaints and aches they all must have suffered through.

"Hope Ruby and the others are ready." Ragna said with a smirk. "Cause today they'll be entering hell!"

The two of them laugh evilly as they were looking forward to combat class as they were going to make things hard for their fellow students. Thankfully, Glynda and other numbers of the staff saw the value in giving such training as they could see that it could help them in the long run. Of course, they had to be careful not to go too far with the training as they didn't want them to get badly hurt or such during this test run. He promised not to go too far, but he still wanted to make sure that he pushed them to give it their all.

The poor unfortunate students the two attending combat class with had no idea as to what they were planning for today. They all had several cold chills run down their spines, but they didn't know why.

Later, at the beginning of combat class

RWBY, JNPR, and the other students sat down as they waited for class to start. However, there were a few students who were having conversations about what was going on, why Ms. Goodwitch wasn't here yet and why Cardin and his team was so beaten up. While Ragna hadn't beat them up to put them in the hospital, they still were nursing bruises. This of course made the other students chuckle and whisper behind their back about how they looked like a mob had beaten them into the ground.

"Anyone felt a strange chill earlier today?" Ruby said as the two teams spoke with each other.

"Yeah, like some sort of ominous premonition for today." Blake said as she had reading her book when it happened.

"Come on guys, maybe it was a weird breeze or something." Yang said as she wasn't all that worried about the whole thing (outwardly at least) and wanted to move onto something else.

"A weird breeze that we all felt at the same time Yang?" Pyrrha said while raising an eyebrow at Yang. "I don't think that is a coincidence and something like that isn't possible as some of us weren't even close to a window when it happened."

"Look I think you guys are just overreacting." Yang said as she put her hands behind her head. "It will probably be a normal day today."

At that sentence, Glynda then walked into the arena and approached the students who all quieted down.

"Good morning students." Glynda stated simply. "Today will have a unique lesson for you to undertake in order to help improve your physical abilities under the watch of a substitute teacher."

The students were confused by that as they thought they were going to go through the usual sparring matches and not doing something like out of P.E.

"Myself and some of the staff spoke with the teacher that you'll be taught under for today." Glynda continued. "This will be a test run for said teacher and see if their ideas actually work."

"Wait a minute Ms. Goodwitch." Weiss stated. "If you aren't going to put us through training today, then who is this substitute teacher you're referring to?"

The sound of a loud whistle sounded throughout the area as the students looked around to find out where it was coming from.

They soon saw Ragna walk out of the entrance in his usual Huntsmen outfit but with a clipboard in his right hand, a megaphone in his left, and a pen on his right ear. The whistle they heard was around his neck.

"Ragna?" Ruby questioned with wonder on her face.

"Okay, why is Blue looking a bit like a PE teacher from a normal school?" Yang said with a raised eyebrow.

"Wait, when Ms. Goodwitch said that the next instructor we had would be a surprise one you guys don't think?" Weiss said as she was putting the pieces together. Both RWBY and JNPR slowly began to realize what was going to happen today.

"Ah Mr. Blaze, good timing." Glynda said as he young man walked over to her. "I hope you remember not to go overboard as we talked about."

"I'll try not to." Ragna said with a small smirk.

"Well I'll leave you to it." Glynda said as she then faced the students. "Enjoy today's class everyone. You may find it quite helpful." She then wlkaed out of the building as Ragna went to face the students and turned on his megaphone.

"ALRIGHT MAGGOTS! LINE UP!" Ragna yelled into the megaphone. Adrian was the front to move down the stairs as he stood at attention in front of Ragna. The two shared a glance and nodded as a smile broke out on Ragna's face.

"Wait what the hell is going on?"

"Isn't he a student like us?"

"Ozpin said after initiation that the piece he got gave him special privileges."

"How the hell is that one chess piece giving him something like this?"

"SOMETIME TODAY PEOPLE MOVE!" Ragna yelled again into the megaphone.

The students then ran in front of him and lined up in single file. Ragna looked at the students with a keen eye as he walked in front of them. He then shot a glare at a couple of students who were trying to laugh at a joke one of them said to the other and gave them a death glare. They instantly shut up and stood at attention as he stopped in what of the group.

"Uh Ragna?" Jaune said as he spoke up. "Why are-"

Ragna then zoomed over in front of Jaune with a look of anger on his face. "DID I SAY YOU COULD SPEAK!? YOU DON'T GET TO SAY A SINGLE DAMN WORD UNLESS I GIVE THE ORDER UNDERSTOOD MAGGOT!?"

"U-U-Um... Uh..." Jaune said as Ragna's glare was makign him sweat.

"I SAID IS THAT UNDERSTOOD!?" Ragna yelled into the megaphone at a top of his lungs.

"Y-YES SIR!" Jaune said as loud as he could.

"I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Ragna yelled out again.

"SIR YES SIR!" Jaune said without stuttering.

"ALRIGHT!" Ragna said as he nodded at blonde haired Knight. He then walked back and spoke up. "Alright, you may speak."

"Um, Ragna what's going on?" Ruby said, very concerned if Ragna would yell at her for making such a question.

"Ruby, are you still confused?" Weiss said in disbelief. "Ragna's going to be our new trainer!"

"Wait WHAT!?" Ruby said as her eyes turned wide as dinner plates.

"THAT'S RIGHT! WELCOME TO MY PERSONAL TRAINING CLASS KIDS!" Ragna said with a grin on his face. "TIME FOR YOU EXPERIENCE THE TRAINING FROM HELL!"

"WHAT!?" The students all yelled at the same time.

Now that chill made sense, they weren't going to have an easy day today. Not even close.

"Alright everyone, now let's move down a track that we'll be using today." Ragna said as he then blow his whistle. "Let's move it people!"

Weiss then glared at Yang as they headed out behind Ragna. "You were saying Yang?" She said with suppressed anger in her tone.

"How was I supposed to know this was supposed to happen!?" The brawler tried to defend herself.

20 minutes later

The students where lined up on dirt track outside of Beacon but away from any major Grimm-infested sites. This way, they could undergo the training that Ragna was going to put them through today as a starting line for how he can push things. He had the students lie up again at attention (yelling at anyone who wasn't doing so). He saw that Cardin and his team would most likely be the ones to try and get away first so he made sure they would get it the worst today.

"So to start things off, we'll be doing about a 6 mile run for right now. We'll be dealing with increases in the distance needed until you can successfully run a full on Marathon." Ragna said as walked back and forth in front of the students. A good majority of the students complained about what he wanted them to do as they spoke up against it.

"Any complaining should be taken up with Goodwitch or else I'll have to ask her about doubling your homework!" Ragna yelled at the students as they shut up at that threat.

Cardin however, didn't care about this whole thing. "Forget this! I'm not going to do this farce of a class." He then began to turn along with his team, going to walk out.

Before Cardin could take a step, Ragna fired off a round from his pistol at where he was about to step. This made the bully jump backwards as Ragna then spoke up again.

"None of you are skipping out on this!" Ragna stated. "Doing so will be akin to ditching class and any who do this will be suspended or sent to detention!"

The students realized they were in for the long haul and had no choice but to bear with what their fellow student was going to have them do.

"Now it won't be this run you'll have to deal with." Ragna said as he brought out large weighted packs which he placed in front of him. "You also have to do it while carrying these."

"Ragna, how much do those weigh?" Blake questioned.

"All told, around 40 pounds of gear." Ragna said. "I can increase it even more if you guys make me."

"WHAT!?" The students yelled.

"Yep!" Ragna said with a grin on his face. "I can make this training even harder depending on where everyone is in terms of physicality. This way anyone who is under-preforming or over-preforming will have more to work with in order to push themselves even harder."

"Ragna this isn't boot camp!" Weiss yelled aloud. "You seriously can't make us do these kind of exercises where you can change the difficulty on a whim!"

"Tough shit!" Ragna barked. "Life isn't always fair Schnee! So if I chose to make it harder during the training out of nowhere, I'll goddamn change it whenever I please."

"NOW MOVE IT TO THE STARTING LINE!" He yelled into the megaphone. "HUP HUP HUP HUP HUP!"

The students began to run as fast as they could otherwise Ragna before he got the idea of possibly pulling out his pistol and firing into the air to make them move. They then saw a large group of packs near the starting line. Not wanting him to yell at them more, the students quickly slung the packs on their backs. The increased weight made some of them almost or right up lose their balance, making a number of them fall over. Those with super strength like Yang and Nora had it better but even they would be pushed hard due to what Ragna was requiring them to do.

"Alright. Everyone take position." Ragna said as he held up his stopwatch and raised one of his pistols into the air. He then squeezed the trigger and let off a shot. "GO!"

The students began to run or jog as they took off. The heavy packs did make them struggle in moving quickly as the weight threw them off. Jaune in particular was very much concerned with how he'll do since he at least understood Ragna would make him work even harder in order to catch up.

As Ragna continued to jog with the students and yelling at those who were falling behind to pace themselves better and breathe better, he was being observed by a particular Faunus. Mathias was looking at the sight from a tree he was sitting in and enjoying it while eating some chips. Seeing Ragna acting like a drill Sargent was a bit entertaining as he could see he was trying to act similar to those he must have trained under.

'Amazing, he actually has turned it into a boot camp.' Mathias thought with a grin on his face. 'Maybe I should ask Ozpin about giving my own ideas for it as well.'

The Fox Faunus then put away his chip bag and followed the students while still in the shadows. He followed them as Ragna made them make a turn which took them around some hills and eventually saw the track back in front of them. He couldn't help but chuckle at how the students were getting tired and barely jogging as they crossed the finish line as most all were panting. The only exceptions was Adrian and to an extent Yang, Nora, and Pyrrha (they weren't breathing as hard). Ragna wasn't even close to that state and Adrian casually took a small sip of his water bottle and casually started a conversation with Ragna, no doubt about what they'll do next.

Mathias had even wanted to add in his own thing.

'Next time I'll have to ask them if I can add in my own ideas.' He thought. 'Honestly seeing Schnee struggle through training like that would be very entertaining.'

Mathias got closer to overhear what the students were saying.

"How the hell did Ozpin allow this in the first place?"

"This sucks, I wanted to attend Beacon to be a Huntsmen not to be a military grunt."

"Shh! Do you guys want him to yell at us or even try to shot his gun at us?"

Mathias shook his head as he recalled the old days when he dealt with the same training when he was little in Atlas's Spartan Program. Though the training had been far more hellish and only Spec Ops soldiers would have been able to pass with a reasonable degree of success. Students like Jaune were completely exhausted and even on the ground.

Ragna then looked at his stopwatch. "Alright you guys got to around 50 minutes."

"Ragna..." Ruby wined. "Are we-"

"I DIDN'T SAY YOU COULD SPEAK ROSE!" Ragna yelled into his megaphone as Ruby "Eeped!". "ALRIGHT PEOPLE, WE'RE TAKING A 20 MINUTE BREAK FOR RIGHT NOW. THEN WE'LL BE MOVING ONTO THE NEXT PART OF THE CLASS! DISMISSED!"

The students groaned and thanked Oum that they could rest after something like that. Of course, if they tired to leave, Ragna would no doubt fire his gun in warning shots and yell at them to back into the group. So they either had to deal with this or get more homework.

35 minutes later...

Ragna then had them jog toward a rather large obstacle course near the track they ran on. It had narrow beams which they would need to balance, swinging logs which could knock them of the path, pits for them to fall into, etc. If anything, this looked to be more along the line of what could be seen as a game show and military obstacle course. Adrian nodded as he was well aware of how the course was laid out.

He had given the students a few minutes of rest in order to get back at their best.

"Alright people, you'll be running this course before you." Ragna said as he walked in front of them. "The goal is finish in the fastest time, but you'll need to complete it without making yourself's look like complete fools out there."

"Wait, why tell us to-?" Yang started before Blake elbowed her in the side to get her to stop as Ragna glared at the brawler.

"One more thing." Ragna stated before the students were going to go off. "It only counts as a win if the whole team makes it to the finish. So if one person gets to the finish line but the others aren't able to make it by the end of the time limit, that will not count as a win. Also any cheap tactics will be penalized with more homework."

"Wait a second!" Weiss stated as she took a drink from a water bottle that had been in the pack she had ran with. "What about Adrian? He's not on a team so wouldn't that give him an unfair advantage?"

Ragna thought about it as he had an idea. "Alright then, Adrian you'll go after 5 minutes and run the course with a lightened pack." The hybrid stated to his friend as Adrian shrugged as lightened his pack.

"Does that work for you Weiss?" Ragna said while crossing his arms.

The Heiress realized that Adrian must have been in on this whole thing as he didn't say anything. She was cross but speaking out against it at this point wouldn't do anything.

"Also if you are wondering, you can only use your weapons and Semblance once." Ragna said while holding up a finger. "So if any of you were planning to use your abilities to breeze past the course I advise against it. Plus if you try to use it more then once, that will also count as a strike and get you more homework."

"This exercise is to find the best way to apply your abilities while still making it through the course. If you do finish it without using your powers, then that will work as well."

"And... GO!" Ragna said as he blew into his whistle. The students once more groaned as they were forced to keep going after the already tiring run.

"Well that's new." Tanya von Dugrechaff stated as she observed the training that Ragna had the students undergo. Some of the more skilled students were better able to make through the course, but others either fell off due to being hit by the swinging obstacles or not having the best grip as fell into the pits that had been dug under the course.

The students weren't even close to the basic training that the Grunts in Atlas had been capable of. Any skilled Atlasian Specialists worth their salt (especially people like Winter Schnee) would shake their head in disappointment at how they were dealing with it. Of course, a few students were doing better such as RWBY and JNPR. She was well aware of how good some of the students were in those teams, mainly the so called 'Invincible Girl' and the power that both students such as Yang Xiao Long and Nora Valkyrie. However, she had planned to deal with them if they got involved.

Tanya shook her head at the sight as she watched. "It seems the headmaster has a bit of a soft spot for Mr. Blaze. Allowing a student to do this is unheard of." The Little Devil was start to understand that the hybrid might in fact have had training similar to a soldier. "If so, then I understand why he and Mathias are becoming such good friends."

She then saw the useless bullies in CRDL fall into a pit that actually had mud in it when they tried to pull a fast one against a couple other students. Nora however, had jumped on them and the force behind her legs knocked Cardin and Russel off their position and dragged Sky and Dove with them. Some of the students laughed at the sight, but Ragna then fired a couple of shots into the air in order to get them to keep going.

She laughed at the sight, but she then left as she had seen enough. She had to be ready when she made her move, otherwise it would be a tougher fight then she originally thought.

"Well, I must admit I had my doubts that Mr. Blaze could pull it off but he has." Glynda said as she and Ozpin observed Ragna getting the students to run the obstacle course via cameras that had been set up around the obstacle course. The pair had to admit, they didn't think the two young Edenian would have gone as far as they did in order to make this experiment work.

"He does have quite the force behind his words and commands." Ozpin stated. "And considering he is in the running to be Beacon's ace among the First-Years due to his skills, no one wants to pick a fight with him unless they were foolish enough. It does make sense as to what he and Mr. Marasati have been doing in their spare time in between class and Anti-WF missions."

"Do you think it is a good idea for him to tell Mr. Winchester and his team about your refusal to boot Mr. Arc from the school?" Glynda stated. She had been quite unhappy to learn that Mr. Arc had lied to get into the school, proving he really was completely inexperienced. She had wanted to get him to leave due to his lack of any real ability, but Ozpin had spoken to say that Mr. Arc had potential if his ability to come up with plans had shown during the initiation with his friends.

In the end she relented but she would have to make sure he would be pushed to be the best he can be as a compromise.

"I believe he would have done so regardless." Ozpin said as he took a sip form his coffee. "He does have the desire to make them as miserable as possible until they change their ways. While I know full well what they've done, I know that eventually there could be someone that forced them to face reality and change their ways. They strike me as people who would need a solid push to change."

Silence soon filled the room as the two continued to watch Ragna push the students to complete the obstacle course as he was yelling into his megaphone. Ruby had tried to get on ahead in order to clear one part of the course, but he yelled at her to better pace herself and keep her teammates in mind. He also yelled at Yang who was trying to brute force her way through, telling her to actually try and saying he would have her homework be tripled if she didn't take this seriously.

The Blonde Brawler didn't argue anymore after that.

"You seem to be in thought about something Ozpin." Glynda stated.

Ozpin breathed in and out as he put his thoughts to words.

"I was thinking about telling him about Salem, letting him know about what the true threat facing Remnant."

Glynda was surprised by this. She had expected he was going to tell him when a serious situation happened due to the actions of the Witch's agents.

"Care to explain why you have this thought?" Glynda said in a surprised tone.

"I've been thinking for sometime about this. After hearing about his whole story and his reasons for fighting, I came to understand his character." The Headmaster stated.

"He strikes me as the type of person who would go after whatever foe he dealing with once he feels ready to fight or if he has the chance to face them. Not only that, but then there is his Azure Flame. If his Azure Flame was made to burn even Gods to ashes, then it could be our best chance to finally stop Salem once and for all." Ozpin stated in a serious tone.

"I see." Glynda said with a bit skepticism. "Don't get me wrong Ozpin, I also think he would still want to continue fighting against Salem if he knew the truth. However, are you really doing to bet on his power actually achieving what it can do? It sounds like a massive gamble, and you tend to set things up before committing to them."

"True." Ozpin said while he was chuckling. "However, the way he spoke of it had no type of deceit and even felt he had the ability to gain such a power."

"For the first time in all the years I have lived Glynda, I finally felt there was a light at the end of the Tunnel. That a spark of hope had finally appeared." He continued. "If he can pull it off, then I will see about giving as much support as possible to finally end this chess match between us."

"I suppose if it does happen then we will have a chance." Glynda stated. "So how goes finding Ms. Bles on your end? I've been reaching out to our contacts and they've been looking around for her but no luck. She must be in one of the villages farther out then we thought."

"Have them look into going further out." Ozpin stated. "If we do find Ms. Bles, then we will have another strong ally to better deal with anything Salem could throw at us." He then continued to watch Ragna yelling at the class.

Soon enough a screen popped up in front

"After all..." The voice on the other end. "You can't keep a Witch and her Strikers down."

At the same time...

"Ahh!"

One of the students yelled out as they fell into one of the pits after being knocked down by one of the swinging logs.

Ruby cringed at the impact as she and her team were trying to balance on a rope. While she, Yang, and Blake were doing okay, Weiss was having some issues due to her heels.

"I can't believe that Ragna is doing this to us." The Heiress said as she barely avoided getting hit by a log. "How is it that Ozpin allowed him to do this?"

"Yeah, that he piece was able to get is giving him a little too much freedom." Blake said as she jumped and avoided another log while jumping on another log and untied the log from it as she left it fall and quickly gather the rope.

"Ugh! Why the hell is he seriously make us go through Boot Camp!?" Yang said as she had been getting annoyed with him yelling at her for trying to cheese the course by knocking down all of the obstacles.

Adrian meanwhile, was also observing some of the others doing their best to deal with the obstacles. He also called out any of the students (mainly CRDL) who tried to cheat in order to win early.

"Hey Weiss?" Ruby stated as she saw the distance. "How far can your best dash Glyphs move someone?"

"A few dozen yards if you are curious." Weiss sad as they relaxed on the platform they were on. "Are you thinking what I think you are?"

"Ragna said we could only use our weapons and Semblances once right?" Ruby said with a small smile. "Let's see what we can do with that one use. So here's the plan..." She then whispered the right to her teammates.

A minute later, RWBY soon got out of their little pow-wow as Ragna was about to get them to continue after seeing what they were doing. However, he wondered if they in fact had a plan to make it to the end of the course first. While some of the students had gotten close enough and passed them through using the low branches and using the nets placed under the platforms to move, he was a bit curious as to what they had planned.

Yang tossed Weiss forward of the team as she formed a Glyph. This however, combined the type she would use to form platforms and one which increases the user's speed as she sailed forward. Ruby then used one of the bars to swing around and used her Semblance a few seconds before she let go. Her momentum, added with her Semblance allowed her to shoot forward more quickly then normal. However, Weiss added in some Gravity Dust as well to lighten anyone who used it. Yang then activated her Semblance and and instead of using it punch her way through the obstacle decided use it add more to her jump as she hit the single Glyph as Blake made clones of herself.

Then one of the Blake clones set herself up to help Weiss jump higher as she pushed her up and hit the Glyph before she and the real Blake were grabbed and tossed by Yang still using her Semblance. Blake (who still had Gambol Shroud out) spun in the air and tossed her chain scythe to Yang as the blonde grabbed it and shot forward with her gauntlets (the lighten effect of Weiss Gravity Dust still in effect).

Ruby and her team then made it across the finish line at once as Ragna looked on with a smirk along with Adrian (who was getting rather close to the end himself).

'Not bad.' The two of them thought.

"Team RWBY has made first place!" Ragna said aloud. "Time is 10 minutes & 10 seconds." He then jumped over to the where the girls were and walked up to them.

"So Ragna, was that enough thinking outside the box for you?" Yang said a playful grin on face.

"DON'T GET OVERCONFIDENT THERE XIAO LONG!" Ragna yelled into the megaphone, causing all four girls to cover their ears. "THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST DAY, SO EXPECT IT TO BE EVEN HARDER FROM HERE ON OUT!"

"Will you stop yelling into that thing when you're literally a few feet away from us!?" Yang yelled before Ragna gave her a death glare.

"DEAL WITH IT!" Ragna yelled into her face. "UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE TRIPLE HOMEWORK LATER!"

Yang then chose to back off since she didn't want to have so much work she wouldn't be able to have fun or relax.

"Once everyone else finishes, take a half hour break then head back to the arena!" Ragna yelled without the megaphone.

20 minutes later after everyone made it across...

"Qumdammit!" Cardin said as he and his team was cleaning off the mud from when they fell into the mud pit as the others were relaxing. "How the flying hell is it that Two-Tone is even doing this?"

"Yeah, why did Ozpin just gave him something like this?" Sky complained.

"Damn that bastard..." Russel said with anger in his voice. "It's like he's trying to make life harder for us."

"I HEARD THAT YOU LITTLE SHIT STAINS!" Ragna yelled right next to them as all four bullies jumped back from the hybrid. He then lowered the microphone and crossed his arms. "Complain as much as you want, but you'll have to live with it."

"I'm really getting annoyed by how you're acting like your superior you arrogant prick!" Cardin said in anger.

"Oh~?" Ragna said with a smirk on his face. "Should I take that as a reason to increase the amount of homework you guys should have?"

"Deal with it Cardin." Ragna said as he got into the bullies face, making Cardin bend back and took a step behind him. "With all of the shit you've been pulling over the semester, I think this is an appropriate punishment." The hybrid then gave the bully a death glare.

"To be honest, I could make things even harder for you even more then right now." He said in a threatening tone. "In fact, how about I continue with what happened last time with your beatdown?"

Cardin shook his head no as Ragna's grin got wider. He then started to walk away from the bully and his team, one hand in his front pocket. However, when he had gotten a few yards away from them, Ragna stopped.

"Oh I should also mention, Ragna said as he looked back with a grin, "I wouldn't try anytime soon to tattle on Jaune's fake papers."

"What the hell are talking about!?" Cardin said.

"Ozpin was aware of it from the beginning." Ragna said with a grin.

Cardin and his team were completely floored by what the Edenian said to them.

"H-He knew!?" Dove stated in complete shock.

"Yep!" Ragna said as his grin got wider. "So even if you told him about he papers, he would still allow Jaune to stay in order to become a great Huntsmen. I mean seriously, did you honestly think that having Jaune do all of your work and how you've been dragging him around wouldn't have been noticed at all? Cause if you thought that, then you're bigger morons then I thought."

"Y-You're lying!" Cardin said, clearly stuttering. "There's no way Ozpin would allow Jaune to stay if he had fake papers!"

"Oh Cardin." Ragna said while shaking his head. "Ozpin does know about Jaune's lack of skill. However, he sees that he has quite a bit of potential in the guy and that given enough time that he'll truly show what he can do."

Ragna then continued walking as he waved back. "Enjoy having that knowledge of information along with the fact that if you try to Ozpin might kick YOU guys out! Ha ha ha!"

CRDL was absolutely dumbstruck by how things had gone form bad to worse for them. Cardin then fell to knees and hands as he was processing the information.

"WHY DOES THE UNIVERSE HATE ME!?" Cardin yelled in disappear as he pounded the ground. Ragna all the while was laughing at Cardin who was acting like a little brat who didn't get what he wanted.

Later back at the arena...

The class was then dragged back to the arena as they finished their break that Ragna gave them.

"Alright people, next up is hand to hand combat." Ragna said as he walked to center of the arena.

Some of the students were happy at that (especially Yang since that was her forte) though others like Ruby paled at the idea.

"Ruby Rose and Lie Ren, come on up." Ragna said as he called their names up. Ruby gulped as she walked up along with Ren who was as calm as per usual.

Yang raise an eyebrow at what Ragna was doing.

"Now any questions?" Ragna said as the two took positions on opposite sides of the ring.

"Um Ragna?" Ruby said while raising her hand. "Could someone else take over for me? I don't think I can make this work."

"Ruby, you can't rely on Crescent Rose for everything." Ragna said with a sigh. "I understand that you are nervous since you aren't the best in hand to hand compared to Yang. However, what happens if you lose Crescent Rose in a fight, can't get away even with your Semblance, and you don't have your teammates close by?"

Ruby tried to find a counter argument to Ragna's situation, but she couldn't. All of his points were good while she would just argue how those things could never happen. All she could do is get into a stance as Ren did the same thing.

"Ready..." Ragna said as he raised his right hand into the air. He then brought it down in front of him. "GO!"

Ruby dashed forward with her Semblance, trying to see about knocking Ren out of the arena in the first hit. However, the Mistral native was able to pivot around her attack and slammed a palm into her side and sent her a ways back. Ren then dashed forward and threw a side kick to the young Reaper's face.

"Eep!" Ruby said as she ducked under the attack and tried to punch Ren in the face. Ren grabbed the rather sloppy attack and tossed her in a Judo throw. Ruby was able to land on her feet but then barely avoided Ren throwing a flying kick at her. The martial artist then landed on his hands and quickly spun around to kick at Ruby's head which she sloppily blocked. He then maneuvered his body and placed his feet on the ground, making him go to all fours and jumped forward. He then threw out an axe kick which she blocked as she then dashed to the side and threw another kick at his side. Ren barely blocked it but was able to stop himself and dodged another speeding dropkick from Ruby as he used the momentum from his spin to use a spin kick which nailed Ruby in the side.

Ruby got up quickly to avoid another axe kick form Ren as she then used her Semblance to move to the side and dashed right in front of him. Ren threw a strong palm strike (much like his fight with the King Titanju in the forest), but Ruby's rose cloud suddenly stopped in front of him and the mass of petals obscured his sight.

'Damn!' Ren thought as the cloud of petals allowed Ruby to get close and slammed her feet into his gut. He was knocked to the ground but quickly got back up and quickly stopped Ruby's follow up attack as his hands where on her feet. He then quickly pivoted around, using the momentum that Ruby made earlier and quickly threw her to the side. He then quickly followed up with dashing at her when she tried to land on her feet and nailed her with a powerful palm strike to Ruby's head which knocked her out of the ring and onto the ground.

Ruby shook her head to clear it as she thought she saw stars for a bit. She groaned as she realized how badly she lost to Ren as the martial artist was able to deal with her easily.

"Do you now see why doing this kind of training is necessary for you Ruby?" Ragna said as he walked up to the girl and helped her up.

"Because of me relying on Crescent Rose and my Semblance, you want me to know this just in case." Ruby said as she thought about it.

"Yep." Ragna said with a small smile. He then turned to the other students. "I understand that most of you probably hate what I need to put you through today. That this isn't even what Ms. Goodwitch at her worst would want you to. To be honest, I get it. This is much more work then whatever training you had prior to today. You just wanted to have a normal day and I ended up doing the opposite for you guys."

"However! There is a reason as to why I want you guys to undergo this type of training. This is help you out in improving your physical abilities and teamwork. While all of you have undergone training and experiences that allowed you to get here in the first place, I believe that people should always push themselves far outside their comfort zone. I want to help make you guys into Huntsmen and Huntresses that will deal with not only the Grimm, but threats such as the White Fang. While dealing with the Grimm is our biggest priority, we must be ready for when non-Grimm enemies rear their head. I plan to make sure you guys have the best chance possible to battle a threat and live another day. So I won't be going easy on you guys after I'm allowed to really take things to the next level. That is my reason for doing this!"

Ragna let the silence last as he wanted the students to contemplate his words.

"So what is your choice?" Ragna said to the students.

"Well it is rather close to the end right now so why not stop."

"Yeah... We got into this so might just finish it up?"

"Don't have anything better to do. So why not?"

"He has some good points."

"Well..." Ruby said with a small smile. "Looks like we want to keep going in the end. So what's next Ragna?"

Ragna nodded at that their choice. "Alright, next up Yang Xiao Long and Nora Valkyrie!" The two brawlers of their respective teams then walked onto the arena, both grinning and looking around to the fight.

This continued for the rest of the period as Ragna continued to observe the spars he put them in. He and Adrian also offered up their own advice to some of the students. This included improving their stances, showing them how to properly throw punches or kicks, or showing off a few moves for them to learn. Of course, anytime when Cardin or his team tried anything which could be seen as cheating, Ragna ordered them to do either 100 push-ups with weights on their backs or in one case, had them clean the locker room until it was spotless. Knowing full well they couldn't win or argue back, they went to do just that as the rest of the class continued for the day.

Ragna then walked over to the seats as the students began to disperse. He saw they were quite exhausted from the nearly back to back training along with the spars he had them do. He was a bit tired himself after everything and took some sips from his water bottle.

Adrian then walked over to him and took a seat next to him. "So Drill Sargent, how was your first day on the job?"

"A bit harder then a thought." Ragan said with a smile. "I don't mean the whole yelling to make the students get to work type of thing but in general making sure that things ran smoothly. I can see why Sargent Rodriguez puts in his best when doing so."

"Ah yes the One-Eyed Drill Sargent from Hell." Adrian said with a chuckle. "I honestly wonder if he wouldn't have made the whole session even harder then what we did."

"I imagine he would have." Ragna said with a shrug. Thanks again for the tips yesterday and today pal."

"Anytime my friend." The Krieger said as the two clanked their water bottles together.

"Mind if I join in?"

Both Edenians turned to see Mathias walking over to them. "Saw what you did earlier, you did a decent job making the class into a boot camp. Hell, with the yelling you gave them I'm surprised your throat didn't get shot."

Ragna chuckled at that as he felt his messaged his throat. "Well let's just say Aura is kinda helpful in healing sore areas."

'That and my healing factor helped even more.' The Hybrid thought to himself.

"Well... Let's just say the man I was trying to emulate the Drill Sargent I had back during the war." Ragna said.

Sargent Calvaro Rodriguez was a taskmaster during his training. Making sure that anyone who did general training and class specific training always gave their best and more so. While his training wasn't as bad as what William Siegfried put him through, he still made sure Ragna had to work for it.

"So what ideas do you have?" Ragna said to the Fox Faunus.

Mathias soon sat down with the two outsiders and began giving his own ideas for more training and improvements to what the two of them had set up.

Well hope you guys like this in between chapter. This was something I've been toying with for a while, having Ragna and Adrian who have actual military experience and training could help out Ruby and others in improving their abilities. Since Huntsmen and Huntresses were usually trained to deal with Grimm, I figured doing more to train against human & Faunus opponents would be a good idea. Plus, we can get to see some funny antics with Ruby and friends trying to deal with soldier training. Yang I think would be the most vocal about doing training like this (since she prior to Adam cutting off her arm was very confrontational) but Ragna wouldn't be putting up with it and work some discipline into her.

Also, I figured Ragna trying to emulate Sargent Calvaro Rodriguez from VC 1, 2, and 3, would be a bit funny as well. Since that man was no nonsense when he trained Squads 7, E, and 422, Ragna would want to do the same thing to force people to really put in the work.

As we are still dealing with the effects of the Coronavirus, we should take the time to find ways to entertain ourselves and keep spirits high.

Now the next chapter might be another short one as I have Ragna and Adrian going into another mission to deal with Kuro and perhaps a bit more with Selvaria. Truth is, I'm planning for a few more chapters following the cannon events of RWBY Vol 1 as they'll lead into the events of Vol 2 where things are going to massively pick up.

Also yes, the person in question is a chameleon Faunus version of Tanya von Dugrechaff from her series. I figured she could work as not only an antagonist, but also someone to push Ragna's sniping skills to their best. If anyone had the idea in their head after the tease last time but yeah she'll be an opponent in the future.

Now in this chapter, there will be a few Remnant versions of characters from another anime which are aligned with Ozpin. I figured it would be fun to add in some more players into the game for fun.

Here's a preview to the next chapter.

Next time on RWBY: Remnant of Flames:

It will be time for the next mission pal.

Eris, this is Ragna and Adrian.

They're the Fang hunter and the Kreiger that have been going after the Fang.

Let's just say me and Ozpin don't have the best wavelength.

Time for payback Hunter!

Take her down!

Chapter 18: Kuro Strikes

That's all for now everybody! Blazblade signing out!

P.S.: Let me know what you guys think about chapters like this in the reviews.
