"What the hell are you on about nerd?" hissed Bakugo as he marched over and stood tall before me.

"I can feel her?" I replied, not shying away

"You can feel it?" I could see him clenching his jaw and his glare intensified and I stood my ground. Finally he sighed and stepped aside.
"Fine. You lead the way then"

The side door we found was indeed locked, an emergency exit only. We crept around to the back of the building to find a small shabby courtyard with a van parked to the side and a small seating area made from mismatched outdoor furniture.

"There" whispered Bakugo indicating with a nod another door, this one wedged open wide with a brick to stop it from closing. He went to step forward when I grabbed his forearm to hold him back. Voices came from the open door and two men shuffled out carrying a large case between them. The man we had followed here stepped out behind them and watched them as the mean loaded the heavy case into the van.

"Be careful with that" he called and lit a cigarette as he watched. I let go of Bakugo while the man's back was to us and the others were inside the van and we moved along the wall and ducked inside the building. Bakugo kicked the brick away as he entered, the heavy emergency door slamming shut behind us and surrounding us in darkness.
"Fuck!" called the man from outside and I heard him kick the other side of the door. I held my breath waiting for him to call out intruders. "You dumb fucks, you kicked the brick when you came out!" I could hear him yelling at the men in the van who yelled back in defence.

"Let's get out of here while they're still barking at each other" whispered Bakugo. I felt his hand press against the back of my head and shoved me deeper into the hallway we had entered, "well, lead the way"

As we moved down the hallway the path lightened. We past a couple of empty storage rooms and ducked past a busy kitchen. My feeling of unease grew stronger as we reached a door at the end of the hallway. I hesitated for a moment, Bakugo glancing to me from my side before I twisted the door handle and went in. The room was windowless but lit from the ceiling some shelving lines the walls and a couple of tables in the centre. We stepped inside and instantly froze. I heard Bakugo growl beside me, both of us caught by Massiah who stepped to the centre of the room alone and glared at us.

"You shouldn't have come" she spoke coldly. I felt her grip on me weaken and I stumbled forward, catching myself as she released me. I looked back at Bakugo and found him still frozen in place, his eyes furious.

"Let him go!" I demanded turning back to face her.

"Why?" she snarled coolly, "the moment I do he would attack me" I tensed, ready to fight to free him if I had too.
"Before you charge at me, he can still breath. I'm only holding him in place" I glanced back to confirm what she had said and could see Bakugo's chest rise and fall despite his limbs being frozen in place.
"I felt you coming, but why did you?" she asked more calmly, her piercing red gaze softening with curiosity.

What did she mean by felt?
"I-" I went to begin when I was cut off by a large sound. We both froze to listen. There was a second large boom followed by screaming from the casino. Bakugo beside me fell to the ground with a growl and sprang back to his feet, free from Massiah, his palms sparking.
"Wait!" I called back to Bakugo, raising an arm to block him.

"Leave!" called Massiah. There was another large boom, this time much closer and louder, I could feel the ground shake. A crack raced across the ceiling above our heads and the ceiling began to come down on us. With a swift movement of her hand I could feel Massiah pushing our bodies back through the door before the ceiling came crashing in. We made it through the door, half covered in rubble, I sprang back to my feet. Bakugo was slower to get up beside me. He grumbled as he got to his feet then fell to his knees again.

"Kacchan!" I cried as I dropped to my knees beside him. He clutched his side and gritted his teeth. I reached to touch him and he swatted me away with his free hand.

"Get off me!" he growled, "don't waste time. Go get the bitch" I could see blood seeping through his fingers.

"You're hurt" I replied but he pushed me away. I lost my balance and fell to my side.

"Forget about me you damn nerd! She's the one you want to save isn't she!? So go!" I froze. All this time I thought Bakugo had come with me because he wanted a rematch with Massiah, that might still be part of it, but did he really come with me to help me? To help her?
I moved back to Bakugo's side determined. When he went to push me away again I grabbed his wrist and held on tightly enough for him to know I was serious.

"You're important too Kacchan," I stared back at his red eyes, glazed with pain, "and I'm going to save you first" I pushed back against him, catching him by surprise and he fell to his side. I moved to kneel over him and pressed my hand on top of his and focused on stopping the bleeding. Bakugo tensed, ready to fight against me, but then relaxed, giving in. I wanted to stop the bleeding, I wanted to save Bakugo more than anything, but I felt his hot blood running through my finger. I had slowed it, but not done enough to stop it.

"Focus harder" I heard a firm voice behind me and went to turn my head, "No," she barked, "don't look at me, focus on him. Will the wound to stop" I closed my eyes and leaned closer to Bakugo, moving my other hand to sit on the wound. I focused my breathing trying to reach for my new quirk.
"Is this how you want him to die?" she asked coldly behind me, "I thought he was your friend, are you really going to let him die?"

What was she saying? "No" I answered without looking away.

"You're failing. He's slipping away, I can feel it and it's all your fault fro bringing him here" she whispered close to my ear.

"No!" I cried, tears running down my face. The blood under my hands started to get cold and I snapped my eyes open again. Bakugo's eyes were closed.

"You can move you're hands now" called Massiah from behind. I heard a rumble and felt the ground tremble beneath me. I got to my feet and spun around to face her.

"Why didn't you help me" I cried, "You could have saved him" I clenched my bloodied fists, not knowing what to do next.

"I did help" she replied calmly, moving closer to me, "look" she was close enough to touch my shoulder now and turned me to face Bakugo. I went to my knees beside him again.
He was breathing.
His bleeding had stopped, leaving a large deep red scab covered area.
"You will need to bandage that up before you move him, or it could open again" added Massiah as I blinked away my tears, stunned.

There was a scream again and this time I could heard a gun shot. My instinct was to rush into the main part of the casino to help. Bakugo was safe for the moment so I got to my feet and turned to help.

"I wouldn't go out there" stated Massiah, moving to inspect Bakugo's wound, "even you're no match for assault rifles"

"Rifles?" had I heard her right? Hand guns I expected to encounter, but assault rifles?
She nodded without looking away from Bakugo. She lent forward to touch his wound.

"You don't know who you're up against" She stood to her full height again and turned to face me, her red eyes burning fiercely. Noise burst into the hallway behind me. The crashing of wall and rubble, the yelling of men is retaliation and the rapid fire of bullets hitting wall and flesh.
"You need to take your friend and leave now" she declared as she past me.

"I can help!" I called after her and she paused, looking back at me over her shoulder.

"No" she answered firmly, "They can't see your face. These aren't the type of people you want to get on the bad side of" I opened my mouth to protest back when a set of figures holding weapons came running down the hallway towards us.

"Massiah!" one of them called, "They've outnumbered us" he panted as they both reached us. The one who hadn't spoken looked at me with confusion and cutched his hand gun more tightly, but didn't say anything.

"Find who ever you can, we need to leave" ordered Massiah, The men nodded to her and turned to leave. Massiah gave me one more stern look her eyes blazing.

"Leave Izuku and don't come looking for me again" she turned her back to me and walked after her men who had run ahead. I stood there for a long moment, frozen with indecision. We had come all this way to find her, to better understand this quirk she had given me. Bakugo had gotten hurt for this. I couldn't just turn and leave, but I couldn't risk Bakugo getting hurt further, caught in a gun fight. I clenched my jaw and turned back for Bakugo. I could already hear the verbal beating he would give me for letting her get away.

There was a loud burst just up the hallway from us and I turned to see Massiah and her men stop and stand at the ready as several armed men poured in through the hole in the wall. The men were in black protective gear complete with masks and vest and carried assault rifles and hand guns. They looked like a police swat team but didn't carry any police markings. They blocked the hallway and hole with their bodies and raised their weapons at the three of them. There was a tense moment between all of them before the men in front of Massiah raised their weapons and opened fire, cursing as they did so. The opposing men returned fire and in the narrow echoing hallway and I dropped to the floor covered my ears from the loud racket. Within a couple of second the firing stopped and when I looked up again only Massiah stood, her men on the ground bloody and lifeless around her.

Massiah let out a cry of anger and raised both hand towards the men who raised their weapons again to shoot but froze before they could. As a group she lifted them off the ground for a moment before blowing them away in all directions. The men were thrown against the walls, the floor, the ceiling and then left where they had fallen. Massiah stalked past them and deeper down the hallway. More armed men came her way from further up the hallways and with a swipe f an arm she sent each of them against the walls hard enough that they didn't get up again.

Her rage was terrifying and he power intense. I rose back to my feet slowly, and turned back to Bakugo. He hadn't moved from where he lay and remembering what Massiah had said I climbed over the rubble and into the room we had first encountered Massiah in. Rummaging quickly through the storage boxes I found cloth from a bed sheet and tore it into thick strips to bind Bakugo's wound in. Reemerging from the room I clambered down the mound of rubble to reach Bakugo at the base and knelt down beside him when I heard a noise behind me, a piece of rubble tumbling across the ground. I stood and turned to face the noise and froze when I came face to face with three armed men with their rifles pointed and me.

"Don't move" ordered the man from behind the mask.
