Soon after, Ratigan ordered his henchmen to tie up Basil and Dawson to a mousetrap. The strong ropes were wrapped around their bodies to prevent the heroes from escaping, and the stronger goons were pulling back the snapping mechanism to prepare the death of the detective and the doctor. Dawson was on the left and Basil was on the right.

"You don't know what a delightful dilemma it was, trying to decide on the most appropriate method for your demise," Ratigan mused at the helpless duo, and he was wearing a top hat.

Fidget carefully set up the trigger in place and flinched when it jiggled. But nothing was snapped, and the bat hurried away pleased with completing his job.

Poor Dawson grew very worried and Basil had a blank expression, not feeling any strength to stand up to Ratigan.

"I had so many ingenious ideas, I didn't know which one to choose!" Ratigan replied as he leaned into an emotionless Basil. "I decided to use them all!"

Basil and Dawson were surrounded by many dangerous weapons all around the room; an anvil was hanging above their heads, an axe held to the left, a crossbow and arrow laid in front, and a pistol to their right was aimed at them.

"Marvelous, isn't it?" Ratigan replied laughing. "Here, let me show you how it works." He turned to make a shift picture frame with his hands and continued, "Picture this. First, this springtly tune I recorded especially for you."

Fidget stood up in a polite manner on the human sized record player, and bowed, as the professor explained, "As the song plays, the cord tightens…" the bat moved the needle a tiny bit to pull the rope a little, and it was tied to the other side on top of a barrel. There was a mechanism with a little glass holding a small black ball with made up turning passage for the ball to roll, "and when the song ends, the metal ball is released, rolling along on its' very way, and until…"

"SNAP!" Ratigan exclaimed as his hands clapped together, referring to the mouse trap. "BOOM!" He pointed to the gun. "TWANG!" he motioned to the crossbow and arrow. "THUNK!" He pointed to the axe, and finally to the heavy anvil, "SPLAT!"

Dawson looked up in horror and grimaced at the thought of all the weapons crushing him and Basil to death.

Ratigan took off his hat and placed it to his chest, and finished slyly, "And so ends the short, undistinguished, career of Basil of Baker Street."

Poor Basil stood frozen as an emotionless statue, even though he was aware of what was going on. He continued to stare upwards at the ceiling.

"You're despicable," Dawson hissed angrily.

"Yes," Ratigan chuckled at the doctor's comment as if he appeared to be flattered. Fidget appeared next to the professor and was dressed in a fancy red uniform and a black hat. The rat leaned over to the bat and asked, "Everything's ready Fidget?"

"All set boss," said Fidget.

The professor gleefully tiptoed over to a large box where two of his henchmen dressed in uniforms stood by. The large box was covered in white wrapping paper and pink ribbons. Ratigan opened the lid of the box and peered in, and was filled with ecstasy.

"Oh, this is wicked," the professor said with a malicious smile and giggled. "So delightfully wicked!"

After closing the lid, two of his henchmen pushed the box away and the professor turned his attention to Hiram Flaversham who was tied up, and gagged. Little Olivia was still imprisoned in the champagne bottle and her hands were on the surface.

"Mr. Flaversham," the professor said as he walked to the poor toymaker. "Let me congratulate you on this superb piece of craftsmanship," Ratigan chuckled as he knocked on the bottle, Olivia was in. "See what you can do with a proper motivation."

He laughed evilly as he pinched Hiram's cheek. Poor Hiram didn't have a choice, he was forced to take part of this evil plan, against his will. It was the only was his little daughter could be spared. The little girl looked longingly at her father.

"I am also honored to be marrying your oldest daughter, Genevieve," the rat added and looked over to where the girl was standing.

Genevieve stood by a few feet away and was guarded by two of Ratigan's henchmen. She was looking down in shame and sorrow of her choice. The girl was wrapped in a dark blue cloak

A group of Ratigan's henchmen climbed up on Felicia's back. They were all dressed in the uniforms Fidget had stolen from the human toy store. The cat stood still and waited to transport them to their destination.

"You all know the plan?" Ratigan reminded them.

"Right, professor," his mice guards said, saluting him. With a meow, Felicia walked off with the mice.

"It was my fond hope to stay and witness your final scene," Ratigan admitted, leaning into Basil and stroked his chest and went up to his chin. "But you were fifteen minutes late." He took out his pocket watch and checked the time. Then he put away his pocket watch and looked at the heroes. "And I do have an important engagement at… Buckingham Palace."

Dawson looked at the rat and raised his eyebrow in confusion. He couldn't understand what the professor was talking about.

"Now you will remember to smile for the camera, won't you?" Ratigan asked as he gestured to the human-sized camera. The camera was positioned in front of the mousetrap. "Say cheese."

The detective gave a quiet sign, he felt too weak to say another insult to his enemy.

"You fiend!" Dawson shouted.

"Sorry chubby, you should've chosen your friends more carefully," Ratigan replied, and climbed up to the record player. Dawson gaped at the professor's response. Ratigan turned his attention to Genevieve. "Shall we go my dear?"

The girl looked up at the towering professor and hesitated, but then something came up that she had to do.

"Please, let me say goodbye to my family and friends," Genevieve said. "I don't want to leave without saying goodbye."

"You have my word," he said huffing.

Genevieve ran up to Hiram and threw her arms around her beloved father, as tears rolled down her face.

"I'm so sorry Daddy. Please forgive me for what I'm doing," she whispered. "I am not going to lose you or Olivia, just like Mother."

"Genevieve, no! You don't have to do this!" Hiram cried. "I can't lose you."

Genevieve slowly backed up and she clutched her father's hands, knowing it would be the last time she ever saw him. "Forgive me, I love you."

She turned to her little sister and placed her hands on the glass, and she kissed the surface as if she were kissing her forehead.

"I love you Olivia, don't forget me," she whispered.

She hurried over to Dawson and Basil and did all she could to hold her sadness in. She knelt down to them, and took each of their hands

"Dr. Dawson, thank you so much for being there for me. I don't know what I'd do without you." she looked over to the detective. "Basil, I'm coming to realize that you're not like my other suitors and that you have a good heart on the inside. There's so much more to you than I already know, and I thought you were strong. Thank you."

She kissed his cheek and the detective felt tingles all over his face, when her lips touched the side of his face. Ratigan felt a sense of envy at Genevieve for showing sympathy to Basil, but he shook it out and remained composed. After saying her good-byes, Ratigan's henchmen pulled away Hiram as he surrendered, and didn't do anything to make things worse.

"Are you ready my dear?" Ratigan asked. "We have an engagement to plan."

Genevieve sighed and slowly walked towards the professor with her head held up high. She reached to her destination and stood silently next to the professor. Ratigan turned on the record player and a mock-gleeful song, sung by himself started to play.

Good-bye, so soon

And isn't this a crime?

We know by now that time knows how to fly

Fidget came out from a barrel and was pedaling a small blimp with the package hanging from the back. A rope ladder was hanging below, and the professor wrapped his arm around Genevieve's waist. Ratigan's other hand grabbed the rope ladder as it was lifted into the air along with the sad mouse. He allowed her to climb up the ladder, and he turned back to wave so long at the heroes, "Adieu, allvedarzane, arebadeuchi, farewell!"

Ratigan reached up to the blimp and decided to add more to his wicked humor, "Bye, bye Basil."

Then Ratigan took control of driving the blimp, and it flew out from the chimney and began to fly to the palace. Genevieve sat on the stool and silently wept tears, not bothering to wipe them away. All hope of being back with her family, and saving her friends had failed and she grew deeply crushed.

So here's goodbye so soon

You'll find your separate way

With Time so short I'll say so long

And go

So soon

Goodbye

You followed me, I followed you

We were like each other's shadows for a while

Now as you see, this game is through

So although it hurts…

All that was left in the room were the weapons aimed at Basil and Dawson, and poor Olivia peered through the bottle and was helpless.

"What did he mean, an engagement at Buckingham Palace?" Dawson asked, stuttering at the gloomy detective.

"Oh…" Basil sighed before he answered tiredly, "Haven't you figured it out yet Doctor? The Queen's in danger and the empire's doomed."

"The Queen!" Dawson cried with an expression of horror.

It all made complete sense now, Ratigan's goal was to assassinate the Queen of Mousedom and steal her crown and the throne. That way, Ratigan can conquer and crown himself the ruler of Mousedom.
