As the arm swung towards Rani, she pulled out her newfound weapon from her back pocket, firing it to send a shock through the hand of the Zygon, which yelled in pain.
"I'll use this, Valia! I'll take you out, I'm not afraid." The creature laughed in response.
"You think that this device will harm me? A mild sonic beam may stun me momentarily, but it will allow you no power over me!"
"I'm not gonna aim it at you." Rani said sternly, holding up the gun with a firm stance. The Zygon turned to the car, and turned back with a scowl.
"You wouldn't dare. That computer is ours!"
"Move." Rani demanded. And as the Zygon scurried out of the way, she pulled the trigger.
It happened in slow motion. The waves flew across the path, rattling the pebbles on the ground, and the car vibrated for a few seconds before bursting into flames. Orange tongues licked at the doors before they violently erupted, engulfing the vehicle. Rani lowered the gun with a look of upset as she watched her car burn. She backed away, the heat beginning to sting her skin. Black smoke danced towards her and tickled her throat, making her cough heavily.
She heard a laugh from behind her.
"You were too late, human!" Valia cackled, holding a concoction of wires connected to the screen hosting Mr Smith.
"No!" Rani yelled, and as the Zygon took off into the forest towards the ship, she followed.
Yaz jumped in fright as the second Zygon returned to the control room. She elbowed Michael, who was still slumped in the corner, and they both sat up attentively.
"Where's the other girl?" Michael whispered. Yaz shrugged nervously.
"Xagma, I have retrieved the computer that the humans spoke of." Valia announced with glee.
"Excellent my friend. I will begin attaching it to our controls. Soon the power over this planet will be ours. The empire of Zygor can be reborn!" The creature took the screen, placing it on a panel opposite Yaz and Michael, and began to maneuver the wires. After a few seconds of trying various ports and connections, the screen came to life, the Xylok's purple glow beaming over the face of the excited aliens.
"We've done it Valia! The power is all ours!" They were interrupted by the computer.
"Rani." It boomed. "I will not give any power to these Zygons. I will end our sonic streaming session and return to my hardware at home. I will inform Luke of your situation in need and send help." The Zygons looked at each other in confusion, not noticing Yaz stand to her feet behind them, pulling Michael up with her.
"No!" Yaz shouted. "Mr Smith, it's me, it's Yaz. From the car. From the Doctor. You can trust me." She stopped rambling. "Do it, Mr Smith, load their ship with full power." The computer's glow froze as if it were confused.
"Why do you wish to help us, girl?" Xagma hissed.
"Oh, I'm not helping. You chose the wrong humans to mess with I'm afraid." Michael and Yaz shared a smile. "Michael has taken your faulty circuitry and fixed it. Well, he's fixed an escape plan for us."
"What does the human imply?" Valia asked. Michael breathed deeply, a wave of courage coming over him.
"If you load this ship with any more power, the circuits will overload."
"We have been tricked! Disconnect the computer Xagma!" Valia screeched.
"Too late!" Yaz shouted. "Mr Smith, power on!"
The orange-green glow of the ship was overpowered by Mr Smith's bright purple energy as control panels began to vibrate and shoot sparks.
"Run!" Yaz shouted, but as they headed for the exit, a pipe burst on the wall. Deep green smoke filled the room, and although she was heading for the door, Yaz didn't know what could be standing in her way.
"You fool!" Valia screamed, as he grabbed Yaz by the throat, pulling her off her feet and suspending her in the air. Xagma was furious, frantically trying to detach the computer and flicking various switches and controls in order to save the ship. Michael screamed, but as the smoke cleared, he could see the open exit.
"Just go Michael!" Yaz stuttered and choked. She saw tears in the boy's eyes as he ran, and Yaz couldn't tell if he was out of sight after a few seconds, or if her sight was leaving her altogether, as the Zygon crushed her neck.
