Tam woke up from his nap at 4 o'clock.
"Mommy," he called, "Daddy?"
Kim and Chris came running.
"Hey buddy," Chris said, "I have a surprise for you."
Tam clapped his hands. He loved surprises.
"Tell me daddy," Tam said.
"Tomorrow we're going to the pet store. We're going to get you a bunny rabbit."
Tam's eyes lit up. He love petting the bunnies at the zoo. He couldn't believe he would have a pet of his own soon.
"We're going to a special pet store," Chris added, "They only sell the best bunnies."
"I love you daddy," Tam said.
"I love you too buddy," Chris told him picking him up, "Come on. It's time for you to eat and then take your pill."
"Ice cream?" Tam asked.
"Sure," Chris said smiling.
He got Tam the ice cream.
While Tam was eating the ice cream Kim and Chris were talking.
"The pet store is on a little farm that only sells bunnies," Chris told Kim, "I don't want him to see a dog or a cat and want it."
"Oh," Kim said, "That's a great idea."
Chris smiled. His watch beeped.
"It's time for me to go to my therapist," Chris said, "I'll be back in an hour."
"Okay sure," Kim said kissing him goodbye, "I love you"
"I love you too," Chris said, "Very very much."
He left.
The next day Tam woke up early. Chris made breakfast and Tam took his pill. Then they went to the bunny farm. Tam immediately gravitated to one particular bunny. She was white and had a birthmark of a star on her nose.
"I want this one," he said.
"She's a sweet baby," the salesman said, "She was born 3 weeks ago."
"I'm going to name her Starwhite," Tam said.
"I love that name," Chris replied.
Tam picked Starwhite up and cuddled her.
"We'll take that one," Chris said.
"Well she's $100," the salesman told them, "Plus the cage and the food and..."
By the time they were done Starwhite cost them $500.
After they bought Starwhite they went home.
"Daddy can I show Hao Startwhite," Tam asked excited.
"I'll have to call her mother," Chris said, "But that shouldn't be a problem."
Lara picked up on the first ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey Lara it's Chris. Tam got a bunny today and he wants to show it to Hao. Would that be alright with you?"
"Sure," Lara said, "How about in an hour?"
"That would be great," Chris said, "Thank you"
"You're welcome," Lara said.
Tam waited patiently playing with Starwhite until Hao came.
"Hao," he exclaimed hugging his friend, "You have to see my bunny."
Kim carried Tam to his room and Hao followed.
"She's so cute," Hao said, "Can I hold her?"
"Sure"
Tam took Starwhite out and handed her to Hao. Hao held her gently.
"I wish I could have a pet," Hao said, "But my mommy's allergic to fur."
"You can play with Starwhite any time you want," Tam said.
Hao was able to stay for a couple of hours. They had hot dogs for dinner with a bowl of ice cream. Lara came after dinner to collect Hao.
"Hi mommy," Hao said, "I had such a fun time."
Lara smiled.
"I'm so glad honey," she said, "I have a surprise for you at home."
"What is it," Hao asked getting excited.
"I got you a bird," Lara said, "His name is Sunshine."
Hao hugged Lara who hugged her back.
"Thank you mommy," she said, "Can Tam come up and see Sunshine?"
Lara looked at Chris and Kim.
"We could spend a few minutes there," Kim said smiling
Chris nodded. He scooped Tam up in his arms and they took the elevator to floor D. Unfortunately Tam got scared of Sunshine. He hid his face in his father's shoulders.
"He's a big bird," Tam said.
"He is," Lara said, "But he's very gentle."
Tam just whimpered. Chris stroked his hair.
"Come on buddy," Chris said, "Let's go back to our apartment."
"Can I play with Tam tomorrow," Hao asked.
"Sure," Chris said, "You can come over around 12."
"Thanks," Hao said, "Bye Tam."
"Bye Hao," Tam said.
When they got home Tam went to bed.
"Did a bird ever bite him or chase him," Chris asked Kim.
"No," Kim said, "He's two. Two year old get afraid of things."
