Carol -
Garland's been working really hard with Gary on his letters and numbers so he's ready to start the lower school in mid-March. I told Garland the kids learn letters and numbers in the lower school, and he didn't have to go to all that trouble, but you know Garland. He's got to cross every t and dot every i whether it needs crossing or dotting or not. Anyway, Gary made this for Sweetheart. Please pass it on to her.

I hope you like the card. I don't know where he found them, but Gunther was selling them to the sailors and fishermen this morning for a pinch of tobacco each. I think he made a killing. Your sister will probably be receiving a dozen at least. She could decorate an entire wall of your dorm room.
Would you be my Valentine?
I've planned a private candlelight dinner for us onboard the Discovery, below deck, near the iron stove, so it will be warm.
You're welcome to stay the night with me in my officer's cabin if you don't feel like walking back to the dorms afterward.
If you still feel it's too soon for that, I remain patiently yours. But just so you're aware, I'm ready whenever you're ready.
Whenever. At any time. Just say the word.
Your servant,
Carlos

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
That's sweetly played in tune.
So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

I don't know where Gunther found this card, but I had to buy it off him. I know you love your Robert Burns.
I'm sorry we fought last night. When Cyndie comes on the mailboat in spring, I won't ask her to lunch at the tavern, if the idea upsets you that much. I just wanted to tie up some loose ends I felt were left dangling. Or maybe I just wanted to rub it into her that I'm happily married now. Because I am happy to be married to you, mo leannan.
You're NOT cooking tonight. I insist. I'm taking you to the tavern for dinner. I know the stew won't be as good as the Saturday chef's specials you make, but you deserve a break. We'll stay on for the party if you like, and dance as long as you want.
Happy Valentine's Day, mo chridhe.
Love,
Arnold
