Chapter 18: This Changes Everything

"I might not have him figured out but he is a good kid. I just hope he'll be ready to make the right choice." A female voice said. She was in a long gold dress and her eyes in rainbow colours.

"I think you need to stop worrying sis. If Abby trusts him, I think we should too. Also the universe trusted him with these powers." A male voice joined in. His clothing was galaxy themed all over. His eyes also rainbow coloured.

"Maybe you're right. Maybe you're wrong. One can only hope Eternity."

May hasn't gotten better. In fact, she has gotten worse. Much worse. Somedays she can speak and is full of strength. Others she's either sleeping all day, or she doesn't even have the energy to eat or drink. It got to the point where the nurses put IVs in her to keep her hydrated as well as a feeding tube so she can keep down food.

It's been a little over a week since Peter took Rocket to Mr. Farley, and as promised, he has taken Rocket back there. Rocket has been there so many times the past week that he knew how to get there by heart. Unfortunately, Peter hasn't joined Rocket in helping with the repairs lately. And every time Rocket asked if Peter would join them, Peter would say 'no, I can't, maybe next time', and the guilt Peter feels is slowly eating him. However, the guilt Peter is feeling gets pushed aside because of his worry for May.

Although, Rocket wasn't the only one Peter has pushed aside. He's stopped having movie nights with the kids. Peter has skipped multiple lab times with Harley and Shuri. He would always decline the invitation to play Mario Cart. It got to the point where he even skipped lunch or dinner with the avengers. Tonight, was one of those nights.

"Sorry, Pepper. I'm not joining you guys again tonight. Maybe tomorrow." Peter said over the phone.

"It's alright Peter. I'll see you later." Pepper told him, but Peter could hear the disappointment. Peter hung up with a quick goodbye.

Sighing, Peter walked back towards May's hospital room. Peter quietly entered the room and looked at May. The heart beat monitor was the only sound that filled the room. May laid there unmoving, eyes closed, an oxygen mask on, and getting paler and skinnier. Peter walked over and sat down on the chair that was beside her bed. He held her hand and squeezed it gently.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door.

"Mr. Parker?" Peter turned towards the door and saw Doctor Lykin standing there. "I'm sorry to say but the cancer has spread even further."

Peter's heart dropped, "Does-does she s-still have a chance to sur-survive?"

"It would take a miracle." Dr. Lykin answered him and gave Peter a sympathetic look.

"H-how long does she have?"

"3 or 4 months, roughly."

Peter looked at May. He could feel the tears forming in his eyes.

"I'll leave you be." He heard Dr. Lykin say, but he didn't turn to face him. When he heard the quiet click of the door being shut, Peter crossed his arms on May's bed and rested his head.

"I'm so sorry, May." Peter whispered as tears silently fell down his cheeks.

The tower was semi-quiet. Everyone had gone to do their own thing. Peter had yet again turned down the invite to watch a movie with the other kids, saying he was tired and wanted to sleep. Instead, Peter laid wide awake on his back, looking up at the ceiling. Thoughts of May, Spider-Man, the Avengers, MJ, Ned, and the soul stone kept his mind awake.

Peter closed his eyes and his breathing slowed. Suddenly four orange silhouettes appeared. They came together and slowly morphed into four pieces. The four pieces became one and two out of the four silhouette reappeared, however this time one was red and the other was purple.

The two figures were then surrounded by other figures. The red was surrounded by a small family of five, two adults and three kids. The red was also embraced by a group of four other figures. The purple was hugged by four silhouettes, a raccoon, a tree, someone with antennas, and a bulky figure. Suddenly, the purple figure was pulled into a slow dance by a someone different.

The picture cleared, then a blue figure appeared. In front of the blue figure, a green light appeared and slowly formed into another silhouette. The blue figure embraced the green one in a tight hug. The green one stood there in the embrace before slowly patting the blue's back awkwardly.

The scene faded as an orange form was laying on a bed. A yellow figure appeared, standing a few meters away from the two. A darker orange figure, looking a lot like Peter, stood in between the two. The darker orange looked back and forth between the two, unsure of what to do.

As the three silhouettes faded, a voice came.

'Times running thin Peter. Better make your choice.'

Peter snapped open to find the sun already up. He quickly sat up an checked the time on his phone. 10:39. Underneath the time there was a message from an unknown number.

'Times ticking, choices waiting. The ball's in your court now Soul Wielder.'

The four pieces of the soul stone flashes in his mind. Quickly making up his mind, Peter got up and jumped into the nearest vent. Making his way through the vents and stopping when he was right above the penthouse.

"Where's the soul stone?!" Peter cried out, dropping down, startling everyone.

"The shards are in a case with the other stones." Bruce told him, "Why do you need it?"

Peter smiles, "Cause this changes everything."
