Chapter 10: Dinner At Hanks
Hiii!! Sorry this chapter took ages, I'm sure some of yous are students and know how busy one week can be! Anyways, finally diving into Jays past which I know you all wanted. Thank you for your lovely reviews! Enjoy!!
Hey babe, wanna leave early?, Kim and Adam said they'd meet us for breakfast." Jay called from the bedroom.
"Yeah sure" Lindsay replied from the bathroom.
Though Kim and Adam broke it off years ago, they'd been much more cozy lately. "Bad news them two hooking up."
Jay came into the bathroom and laughed. "We weren't the best news either at a point. I mean Voight literally threatened to kill me. On multiple occasions!"
"Jay, they were a few months from getting married" she exclaimed and indicated by pointing her ring finger at him.
"Well at the end of the day, it's not really our problem nor our business." Jay smiled and kissed her cheek as she began to brush her teeth.
"Yeah maybe not for you. You're not the one who has to listen to Kim go on about how in love she is and that it can work this time, only for the next week to be sitting in her bad with a gallon of ice cream telling her that he was a dick anyways. All men do is go get drunk, eat kebabs and lie."
"I would never lie to you" Jay smiled cheekily.
"And why wouldn't you?" Erin asked, knowing full well she had her man trained.
"You'd cut my balls off" Jay sighed.
"Attaboy."

Erin looked at herself in the mirror. She just threw on blue ripped jeans, a white tee and a over sized pink woolly cardigan. She threw on her boots, threw her hair into a pigtail, as she had no intentions of dealing with it and kept her makeup minimal as always.
"Happy Mother's Day, love" Jay said, coming into the bedroom after Erin got dressed. Erin turned around from the mirror, Jay smiling at the sight of her.
He honestly couldn't believe she was 20 weeks pregnant. Half way there. She looked even more beautiful with every passing week. And today was her first ever Mother's Day.
Jay slowly made his way over to her and reached into his pocket pulling out a small box. He opened the box, inside was a beautiful rose gold necklace that had the word 'mama' engraved into it. He moved her ponytail out of the way and clipped the necklace on for her.
Erin looked at the necklace and and couldn't believe that in 20 short weeks she would officially be one. A little girl, who she hasn't even met yet, though she loves with every fiber of her being, would call her this one day. And though it scared the living day light out of her, she couldn't wait to be someone's mommy. And she certainly couldn't wait to see Jay as a daddy. They'd be parents. Together.
She smiled at him, and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. "It's beautiful. Thank you."
"You're welcome. Let's go" he smiled at her.
Watching her go from his 'girl' to the mother of his daughter. Was honestly the most beautiful thing in the world to him.

The four had breakfast at an adorable little diner. Adam being Adam, literally locked himself in the bathroom stall. Literally.
They guys were getting ready to go as they had to be in work in 15 minutes and the diner was 10 minutes from the district, but Ruzek insisted that he needed to pee. To be fair he did chug a whole slushie.. But after 15 minutes, they were officially late to work and Adam still wasn't back, so Jay went to go see what was wrong, the girls visibly shocked when Jay came back to get a handyman. Him and Adam coming out 5 minutes later.
"Dingbat locked himself in the toilet" Jay sighed as they came back to the girls.
"Well how was I meant to know the lock was broke!!?" Adam moaned as they gathered all their belongings.
"Maybe from that sign that says 'do not lock bathroom doors'?" Erin laughed pointing to the sign on the door as the exited the diner, going into the car park.
"Lindsay, I go to the bathroom to relieve myself. Not read."
Kim gave Erin and Jay the 'What the fuck?' look. Erin and Jay had known Adam a little over 5 years, and still he never failed to surprise them with the things that came out of his big mouth.
"Don't look at me, you're the one sharing a car with him" Erin laughed, as her Jay got into their car, Kim silently pleading for her help.
"Love you too, Er" Adam winked. Jay and Erin just making out what Kim had shouted at Adam.
"God Ruzek! Could of gotten out of the car to fart!"

They were running a little late, thanks to Adam, but nobody really cared if they were late, as long as they were with Lindsay because Lindsay had a way to wriggle her and her friends out of situations with Voight.
When Erin got up the stairs, she was quite shocked at the cakes, cards and flowers at her desk, as she was rather expecting an angry Hank Voight.
Mouse was the first person they saw.
"Happy Mother's Day Er!" He said and hugged her tight, followed by a kiss on her forehead.
Everyone came up and kissed her cheek and forehead and told her either Happy Mother's Day or that she's going to be a great mom. She walked up to her desk and smiled as she read the card.
Dear Linds,
Not only are you going to be an amazing mom to our newest little girl, but you're an amazing mom to all of us idiots too. Erin, you are such a crazy, smart, amazing, beautiful, strong, kind, and badass woman. This baby is going to be the luckiest girl in the world with you as her mommy. We love you so much and would be lost without you by our sides. Here's to your first Mother's Day and many more, you amazing soul!
Lots of love, the unit.
Ps. You're the sexiest momma ever xox Ruzek (don't show Halstead, love ya mom!)
Erin giggled. There was no hiding her smile. "Ruze, you are something else."
He gave her wide eyes which made her laugh more.
"Thank you all so much, seriously this means more than you all know. I didn't even think of myself as a mom yet." She smiled yet cringed at the same moment. Lindsay was not one to enjoy being center attention.
The unit all smiled and Hank came up to her and gave her a kiss on the top of her hair. "Come in here a second." Hank said gesturing towards his office.
Erin obliged and put the lilies she was smelling, down.
"Hey kid, if your not up for tonight, I get it." He said closing the door after her as she sat down.
Every year on Mother's Day, Hank and Erin went to visit Camille. They then went bowling, which was Camille's favorite thing to do as a family. They then would go home to Hanks and make one of Camille's homemade recipes. Erin normally just staying over at Hanks, having a movie night like they use to, when life was simpler.
"Hank don't be silly, I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Hank nodded and smiled at her determination to carry on their family tradition.
"Bring Halstead too, he's part of the family now and last year was lonely just us two."
Erin smiled. Last year was lonely. Justin wasn't there. Not that he went much when he was still alive, but it just felt that bit more lonely and eerie.
Also seeing Hank and Jay form a 'bond' , well a type of relationship, was honestly so beautiful to Erin. When Jay joined the unit, they weren't each other's favorite people. Different views, different ways of doing stuff, and then add on Jay simply ignoring Voights rule of 'Erin being off limits', they hadn't had the easiest relationship. But they really have been growing on each other lately, and it made Erin very happy and blessed to have the the two main men of her life get along.
Erin simply got out of her chair and gave her father a hug. But were soon interrupted by a knock on the office door.
"Sorry guys, but whenever you're ready, we've a new case. Take your time, me and O can start briefing." Antonio came in and smiled sadly, he knew this was a hard day for them.
Hank nodded and smiled at Antonio. Antonio softly shutting the door. They'd come out when they were ready.
"C'mon, let's go do our good deed for the day." Hank ruffled her hair.
Erin smiling at his and Al's iconic line of 'doing their good deed for the day.'
xxxxxxxxxx
"Dinner at Hanks!?" Jay exclaimed.
They were on their way home, when Jay had asked if she wanted to do anything tonight. Erin having told him what they were doing.
"Babe it's Mother's Day. It's a tradition. Plus you'd want to start getting use to it if your planning on sticking with me. Hank and I have Sunday dinner every week." Erin smiled at him as they parked their car and began to walk to up to their apartment, Erin knowing that Jay was dying inside
"Fine.. but.. but" he was hesitant to ask her this question, and she could tell.
She opened their front door and led him to the chair and rubbed his thigh encouraging him to carry on.
"Do you mind if we visit my moms grave too, she's buried where Camille is." He asked shyly, Erins heart breaking that he was scared and hesitant to ask her.
She smiled at him. She was so caught up with Camille, she didn't even think of Jays mom.
"Of course we can, babe. You don't have to ask me."
Jay smiled and kissed her and decided to lighten the mood. "What do I wear to dinner at Voights?" He chuckled.
"Ooo fancy", she said walking into the kitchen, grabbing herself a bottle of water, chucking him one too.
"Fancy?" He said kind of shocked, catching the water. Erin and Voight weren't 'fancy' at all. Or as Adam would say, they were all 'rough and tumble.'
"Yep, fancy, we always did fancy."
Jay just nodded. "Whatever you say, Dear." Erin just laughed, giving him a strange look.
'Dear?' God they were starting to sound more and more like an old married couple as the days went on.
xxxxxxxxxx
Erin looked beautiful. She wore a white dress that came below her knees, it had black buttons, with a white tie around the waist. She wore black sandals that came above her ankle, as pregnancy and heels just don't go together. Her hair was in its natural messy wave and her makeup just a tiny bit heavier than normal.
Jay, also looking very handsome, wore black suit pants and a white button up shirt with a black tie with his 'court shoes' as Erin called them and his hair was perfectly styled.
"You look amazing, like a beautiful beach babe." Jay laughed.
"You don't look so bad yourself Halstead." Erin teased, trying to unbutton his shirt, and pulling at his tie.
"Don't try to seduce me, Lindsay." Jay joked.
He secretly loved when they used each other's last name. They never did it anymore, since getting into a relationship, so it was quite funny to try seduce each other with them.
"Me?! never!" Erin laughed dragging him by his tie, out of their apartment. "Let's go baby!"
xxxxxxxxxx
They met Hank at the graveyard. It was a Thursday, so not too busy. It was March time, the weather pleasant enough for an early Chicago Spring evening.
"Hey." Erin said quietly.
"Hey Kid, you look beautiful." Erin smiled, hugging him, him also dressed similar to Jay.
"Hey Sarge." Jay said, stepping out from behind Erin, shanking his boss' hand.
"Outside of work, call me Hank" he winked at Jay, smiling when Jay went red faced.
Jay just nodded as they proceeded to walk along the headstones. The trio had lots of stuff in their hands. Flowers, toys and balloons, all for their loved ones.
Erin told Hank they'd be stopping Jays mother, Lydia's gravestone. The guys sayinh their hellos and goodbyes to Lydia Halstead and Camille Voight.
"They're both going to be grandmothers, and they're not even here." Erin sighed sadly.
Erin Lindsay could do anything by herself. She did everything by herself for the most part. But she always wished Camille was still around. Even though she was in her 30s, sometimes you just need your mom around, and though she had Jay, Hank, her team and all her other family, she longed for a mom to help and bond with her through her pregnancy.
"They are here. Both of them. Maybe not physically, but spiritually" Jay told Erin.
"Why don't we go bowling now?" Hank suggested, sensing things were about to get a bit too emotional.
xxxxxxxxxx
"There has not been a year I haven't won," Erin said as they were setting up. She wanted to make sure Jay knew who was going to win.
"My champ" Hank laughed and ruffled her hair.
"Ahh!" Erin laughed. She loved when he did that. It reminded her when she was a teenager and he'd do it pretty much whenever he saw her.
"That's because I wasn't there" Jay winked.
Hank and Erin just rolled their eyes. Erin was a the bowling champ and that's that.
And would you look at that! turns out true. Erin won by 7 points while the men tied in second at 30 points.
"Told ya Halstead! Can't beat me."
xxxxxxxxxx
When they arrived at Hanks, Lindsay was surprised when everything was prepared but really happy because she was so hungry, so they immediately just digged in. But not before Jay just had to make a fool of himself.
"Is this your way of showing Hank you're a gentleman?" Erin laughed.
They were sitting down for dinner, when Erin nearly fell
over as Jay pulled her seat out.
"Sorry, I was just um" Jay stuttered.
"No need to show off in front of him." Erin laughed, nodding her head toward a grinning Hank. He loved to embarrass Halstead. "Babe this is us showing off. I literally sit on you when we eat." Erin said, casually.
Jay went red face.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Everything was great Hank, thank you." Jay said.
Hank nodded and Erin smiled. Camille's food is always the best. Her meals always just had a homely taste to them, meals Erin would definitely bring her children up on.
After they cleaned up Erin needed a pee. 20 weeks pregnant means the toilet was Erins new hangout.
"I'm going to the ladies." Erin stood up from her sitting position, both Hank and Jay standing. "And they say chivalry is dead" Erin rolled her eyes and bent down to Hank. "Be nice."
Hank chuckled. He loved how he could scare everyone in his unit, barr Erin and Alvin of course.
"How are you doing Jay, like seriously?" Jay was suprised by Hanks question. He expected Hank to show him the plot in the backyard he made especially for him if he ever hurt Erin.
Jay took a deep breathe. "I'm good, actually. Erin's happy so that's the good thing, she seems to be putting this whole thing with her parents behind her. But I means there's always going to be bad days. Also with the baby and Teddys kids due in a few weeks she's something to focus on. She means the world to me and to see her happy again. It's it's -"
Hank nodded, understanding Jay. "You're good for her, Halstead. I've never seen her as happy as she is with you" Jay nodded. He honestly couldn't believe the one and only Hank Voight was saying this to him.
"You's are getting quite serious, with the baby and all, you hurt her Halstead and they won't find the body" Jay chucked but his heart was racing.
He knew Voight meant that. Nobody especially a boyfriend hurts his daughter and gets away with it.
xxxxxxxxxx
Erin looked in the mirror and recounted the last year. Before she was even pregnant. Before she got her mother thrown in prison, before her dad came back. Life had changed so much. And it was about to change a whole lot more.
Her thoughts were interrupted. She could hear laughter from down stairs and was quite surprised. She expected Hank to be showing Jay his gun collection. She took a deep breathe, threw some water on her face and walked down the stairs.
She walked down the hall and peeked her head in the sitting room and was mortified at what she saw. Hank was showing Jay pictures of a teenage Lindsay.
"Hank I thought we agreed to never show anyone these pictures." Lindsay laughed knowing it was all in good fun.
"But Erin you were so cute" Jay mocked.
"Let me see these." She plopped herself between Hank and Jay and took the album. "Igh I had such a bitch face!" Erin said pointing to a holiday photo of her and the Voights, when she was 16.
"Still do..." Halstead said, earning a chuckle from Voight but a slap from Erin.
"You don't understand how hard it was to get her into that" Voight laughed, gazing at the picture.
"Wow is that Al?" Jay asked pointing to a younger Erin, seemingly when she got her Detectives badge.
She held her badge in her hand. Jay noticed how her makeup was the exact same as she did it now. Her bouncy curls pinned back from her face. She stood in between a semi younger looking Hank and Alvin, right outside the 21st district.
"Sure is, you know it was only a few years ago" Erin chuckled.
"Man, I can't wait to tell Adam, Alvin use to have hair."
They all chucked at passing pictures, until Erin turned a page and groaned. She covered one picture with her hand as the two men admired the others on the page.
One with Erin's senior prom. She wore a floor length light blue dress with a diamond belt around it and her hair was in a curly side bun and seemed to have pink in it. Jay smiling at her pink hair. Hank, Camille, Justin and a teenage boy were with them. Justin was turned around looking at Erin, who was also looking at him, both laughing. Camille seemed to be fixing Erin's hair and Hank had a tight grasp on the boys shoulder, evilly grinning and the teen boy looked absolutely mortified.
"Mmmm, who's that's Erin Lindsay?" Jay said pointing to the boy, Erin rolled her eyes.
There was another picture of Camille and Erin baking. The two woman had flour all over them.
There was also one with Erin and Hank in her uniform, and one with her drivings license.
"Awh! that's my favourite" Erin said, pointing to a picture of Erin,Camille and Hank all jumping and smiling, Erin with a letter in her hand. Jay looked confused.
"Justin took it. It's was the day I got my acceptance letter to the academy." Erin explained. Hank laughed remembering the day fondly. Erin was 18 and just graduated high school.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Morning" Hank said as he entreated the kitchen. He went over to Camille, putting his hands around her waist and kissed her cheek as she cooked pancakes for the family.
"Morning love" she smiled, turning around and helping him clip his detective badge on his belt.
Hank went over and threw the bunch of mail on the table and kissed both his kids heads.
Erin was currently combing Justin's hair as Justin went through the it, handing everyone their mail.
Erin sat down, her obviously not noticing the 'CHICAGO PD' sign on one of the letters. But Justin did. He got out his camera, just in case the news was good, secretly knowing it would be.
Erin ripped open one letter and rolled her eyes. Camille coming over, hearing her daughter sigh.
"Bunny again?" She asked softly, rubbing her hand through Erins hair.
"Yeah" Erin sighed. You could hear how fed up she was in her voice.
"Sooner she's arrested the bet-" Hank was cut off by Erin shouting and jumping off of her chair and coming over to him and Camille and the many clicks of Justin's camera
"HOLY SHIT!" Both Camille and Hank looked to Erin.
"Erin!" They both said in union. Erin always had a pouty mouth, just like Hank.
"I got in! I got in!" She exclaimed, waving the academy acceptance letter up. Justin was still taking pictures of the happy moment.
"Oh my god, sweetie!" Camille came over, smothering Erin with hugs and kisses.
Erin then flung herself into Hanks arms.
"You do it, kiddo, you did it, I am so proud!" Erin's eyes filled with tears, them leaking onto Hanks shoulder.
"Couldn't of done it without you, Hank." The sedimental moment was interrupted by Justin.
"Jeez, so I have a dad as a cop and a sister?" They all rolled their eyes knowing he was joking.
"C'mere" Justin said to Erin. "I'm proud of ya sis" Erin smiled.
"I'm proud of you too Jus."
The family all hugged each other. This was what Erin always wanted. Needed.
"Celebrations tonight! We're going wherever Officer Lindsay wants." Hank said.
Her heart swelled 100x times that day.
xxxxxxxxxx
Her thoughts were interrupted by Jay.
"Hey what's that one?" Jay asked trying to move Erin's hand, which was still covering a certain picture.
"We're not looking at that one" Erin laughed, but Jay was adamant he see it. He managed to move Erin's hand and she groaned, putting her hand on his shoulder.
"I can explain why I look like that" Erin cringed. Hank laughed at the picture, but Jay was honestly quite shocked at a very young looking Lindsay.
Her face looked tired and he could tell she was in withdrawal. Her hair went down to her hips, it was was super dark with random colors mixed into it and looked like she hadn't ever brushed it. She was the skinniest he's ever seen her, her legs and arms were like twigs. She had a cropped top on and a real short skirt. She had a belly, nose, lip, eyebrow and multiple ear piercings and she just didn't not look like the Lindsay he seen in the other pictures.
Erin began to speak. "I'd been living with them for not even a month and to be honest I- I just wasn't liking it." Her and Hank giggling. "I decided to meet with some.. um questionable people. We skipped school, snuck into a movie, did some drugs, hooked up with a bunch of dirtbags and went for a joy ride or two."
Jay was shocked at how casually she was saying this. If he even thought about skipping school, he'd be finished.
"I also let them re-pierce my belly, nose, lip, eyebrow and a bunch of places on my ear."
Hank chuckled, explaining what she meant. "When she came to live with us, Camille and I made her take them all out." Jay looked at them, astonished.
"How did you manage to pretend you were 18?" Jay asked Erin, baffled. Erin laughed at her boyfriends innocence.
"We did it the good old fashioned way, fire and a needle." Jays eyes widened and Erin continued the story.
"I also let a bunch of girls dye my hair red, but since my hair was so dark they had to bleach it." Erin grabbed a piece of her hair and ran a hand through it.
"Yikes" Jay said. Erin laughed.
"I tried 3 years to try and fix it" She laughed pointing to pictures of her different colored hair. "I mean I had random bleach stands, so I had like 100 different colors of hair before I was 18" she smiled as Hank rubbed her head.
"I gave up trying to fix it when I went to the accdemy. Let a professional do what he wanted." She and Hank laughing, as Jay ran his hand threw her hair.
"Camille was livid when she came home, all I could think about was that she was high and all Camille could think about was her hair" Hank shook his head, causing Jay to laugh.
"What about the piercings?"
Hank and Erin looked at each other and laughed at Jays question.
"Well we compromised" Erin said. Jay raised his brow. "I could keep 3 ear piercings and my belly button, since no one could see it." Erin said, fiddling her ear, she still had them three ear ones, Jay knew that, but he also knew she must of let the belly button one close.
"Wait how many ear piercings did you have?"
"8" Erin said, bursting out laughing.
"My girlfriend the rebel. Yano, I always had a thing for girls with crazy long hair with mad colors and too many piercings" Jay whispered in her ear, seductively, when he thought Voight wasn't listening.
"I heard that Halstead."
Sitting there Erin felt so complete.
xxxxxxxxxx
"I'm coming!" Erin shouted as she waddled to the door. Though she'd never admit it. 20, edging on 21 weeks pregnant, being alone in an apartment, is hard. Erin was alone once again as Jay and the team were called out to a bust, Lindsay obviously not invited.
"Ja-" the man on the other side of the door said when Erin swung the door opened but quickly stopped when he realised it wasn't Jay who opened the door, it was some random woman.
"Oh my, ma'am! I am so sorry" the man expressed his sorrows. "My son William, said my son lived here.. he um must of gotten the wrong address. Sorry to bother you" and with that the man began to turn when Erin stopped him.
"William, as in Dr. Will Halstead?" Erin asked the man. When he turned around, Erin couldn't help but notice that he kind of looked like Will.
"Yes! William is my son. My other son Jake, do you know you know him?" The man expressed.
"Well this is your grandkid" Erin uncomfortably laughed, pointing at bump. "Jay is my boyfriend."
Was this man Jays fathers?
"I have to go." The man said, all flustered.
"Sir-" Erin tried to call after him, but he was gone down the stairs to fast.
Erin stood at her door for a few seconds, shaking her head. Coming in inside when she heard her phone ring.
"Chicago is filled with weirdos" she muttered to herself.
"Hey babe, you wont-" Erin said, as soon as she saw Jays name flashing on her phone.
"Erin, you need to get to Med." Jay said, sternly.
"What? Why?"
"Erin, please just get to Med." and with that, he hung up his phone.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Hailey! Kim!" Erin shouted to her friends, as she entered Chicago Med, dressed in lounge wear and uggs.
Upton and Burgess turned around, and she could see Will, he had that sedimental doctor face on and his scrubs were bloody.
"What the hell is going on!? Where is Jay!?" Erin demanded.
"Er" Jay said. Erin turned around and got lightheaded when she saw him.
He was soaked in blood. His own? Someone else's? A victims? He was out of breath and simply looked frazzled.
"Jay! What the hell happened!?" She shrieked ss she grabbed and inspected him.
"Erin it's-" Jay began but was interrupted when the rest of the team, along with a few people from 51 came rushing into the ED.
"Halstead! How's Voight!" Antonio shouted, stopping dead in his tracks, seeing Erin.
"What?" She asked, and looked around at everyone.
"Jay" Erin whispered.
"Voight was hurt."
"What do you mean hurt?" she started to get dizzy as her heart rate quickened, dangerously.
"We were on a bust and- and he um-" Jay began, but didn't have the heart to tell her.
"Erin" it was now Kelly Severide to speak. "Voight walked on a bobbytrap, he um fell a few stories and that set off a gun and he um-" now Kelly couldn't bear tell the girl, he really considered a best friend, what happened to her father.
"He what!?" Erin was growing incredibly frustrated.
"Erin, Hank was shot in the chest" Mouch spoke, understanding that no one in intelligence could speak right now.
"No" Erin said to herself, quietly. "Will" she went up to her brother-in-law. "You go in there and you get him for me cause I'm bringing him home!" Erin shouted. No way was Hank shot, no way did he fall a few stories. He probably just broke his arm. Nothing a bandage and some reality tv can't fix.
"Erin, he has lost a lot of blood." Will sighed, he didn't want to stress her out, but lying to her. Ha! You must have a death wish.
"No he didn't, he's fine."
"Erin why don't we go wait-" Kim tried to suggest they go to the waiting room, but Erin was in denial.
"Let me see him! He's fine I'll show you! Let me see him!" Erin demanded to Will.
"Erin he's in surgery. He's lost a lot of blood, he has major lung damage from the fall and-"
"Erin!" Everyone shouted in union as Erin lost all strength she had of keeping her eyes ajar.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Morning Sunshine."
"Jay" Erin sighed. Memories of the hours before coming back. Her head was pounding. She looked around. Here she was in a hospital, yet again.
She gently sat up with the help of Jay, hand immediately going on her bump. "Is she okay?"
This was the 2nd time in a few weeks she had loosen consciousness, certaintly not good for the baby.
"She's fine" Jay said camly, Erin could tell he was pissed. "You toppled on poor Matt though." Jay smiled, Erin relaxing as his soft smile.
"Casey can handle it." she laughed. Though a different question lingered in her head. Her too scared to ask, Jay picking up on it.
"He's stable."
"His he awake?" Jay shook his head.
It had been a long night. Everyone refusing to go home. Two of their own were here. Well three, including baby H.
"I wanna speak to Will." Erin demanded.
"I'm right here." Will said, coming into the room. "Seriously Erin you're like a stress ball, I really think-"
"I'm not taking drugs." Erin made very clear. She knew Will would try prescribe her some sort of medication. It was in her file, Will knew her personally, better then most. He should know. No drugs.
"Erin, the drugs are not going to effect the kid, I promise."
"This isn't about being pregnant, it's a personal... it's like-like a moral. I just don't feel comfortable doing it. You know this." She stuttered. She hated explaining why she didn't 'just take' an aspirin when she had a migraine. Personal choice.
"Okay, but Erin please, you've gotta keep you stresses down." Will pleaded.
"It's my fault, I shouldn't have called you about Hank."
Jay sighed, squeezing her hand.
"Don't be stupid. I would of killed you if you didn't tell me." She huffed. "Will"
"Hmm" he murmered as he readjusted her IV in her left arm.
"Is Hank going to die?"
The two brothers shot up and looked at each other, neither Halstead expecting such a question. Even the way she said it. She sounded like a little girl.
"Erin-"
"Will don't beat around the bush! His he okay?"
Will sat down on Erins bed. "Erin, he lost a lot of blood due to the GSW, but we did manage to stable him and get a transfusion. Our main concern is from the fall. He's multiple cracked ribs and a punctured lung, along with minor damage to multiple other organs."
"What are his chances?" Erin asked, teary eyed.
"Pretty good, but you never know with organ damage, plus add on possible infections and we don't know how aware he'll be when he wakes up.. if-"
"Will" Jay warned.
"Okay, but Erin, Voight does have you listed as your next of kin and Erin I know he will wake up but-"
"Will!" Jay warned, once again. "Now, I'm going to go get you something to eat, I'm sure I'll be able to bring you home." Jay stood up and kissed Erins cheek.
"No more scaring her, Will." And with that, left Erin and Will alone in the room.
"Erin, listen-" Will started.
"Why didn't you tell Jay that your father was back?" Erin shot at him, deciding to put one stress aside, and deal with another one.
"So I'm guessing he showed up at your and Jays apartment?" Erin nodded in response.
"Listen Will, I don't know a lot about his past, I really don't. He doesn't talk about, I mean he had one nightmare before, he told me a little bit and it always goes back to your father. He didn't like Jay, Jay didn't like him. And trust me I've my fair share of unwanted parents but Jay has helped me, and I want to tell him, but why is he back? Why does he wanna see Jay all of a sudden?"
"My dad, he um had a problem with Jay becoming a cop. Dad was a lawyer and he wanted Jay to go to collage and get a big fancy job, like me and him. Jay was suspected to go to collage, get 101 degrees, get a wife, have kids, provided. But that's not Jay, and we both know that."
Erin nodded. She understood Jay grew in a more conservative household. And sure, sometimes they had different views on things, but Jay was honestly a gentleman, and respected her.
"He joined the army, then obviously when he came back, joined the acedemy."
"That's when your mom passed away."
"Yeah. I was in New York at Med School, and God knows where my dad was. Jay was the only one there for her. And yet my father was still disappointed in him. My family come from a long line of male providers. Doctors, Lawyers, Dentists you know.. and in my dads eyes, Jay was just some 'servant.' See my dad was about money, Jay was generally about helping and serving... But he's back now. He's had a run in with the law, drugs, depth-"
"And now he wants Jays help." Erin sighed and rolled her eyes. It was like the male version of her mother.
"Erin, it's nothing bad it's a think him can get him off on. Please Er, you've to ask Jay."
"Ask me what?" Jay asked as he re-entered Erins hostipal room. He had just forced the team to go home and had gone to pick Erin some lunch up as she refused to even smell the hospital food.
Suddenly Wills pager went off and looked to Erin with pleading eyes. He leaned into kiss her cheek goodbye.
"Please talk to him" he whispered. "Later brother."
When Will had left, Jay turned to Erin with a confused face.
"What did you get me?" Erin perked up and tried to grab the bag of food out of his hand.
"What were you and my brother whispering about?"
"Nothing."
"Erin."
"Jay, me and your baby and hungry!"
"Erin, don't lie to me. I'll give you your dinner if you promise to tell me."
"Blackmailing me Halstead?"
"Pretty much." Jay smirked, and gave her her food. They ate in complete silence and Jay jumped on with the questions when she finished.
"So?"
"Jay, your father is back. And he needs your help."
