"I hope I can have another happy new year with my beloved wife." Kuniharu prayed looking at his wife.

"What? Why are you making that wish to me?" Kurumi said shyly.

"What are you talking about?" Kuniharu said cheekily. Then in a very suave manner he adds "It's because you're my goddess!"

Kusuo rolls his eyes 'This is not how I wanted to start my New Year's.'

Kusuo and his father go to the temple front to ring the bell, give an offering and make a wish.

He wasn't surprised when his father wished for 200 Million in the lottery.

Kusuo did the little ritual and wished for a peaceful New Years although he was very doubtful that there was a god who will answer his prayers.

"Saiki!" Kaido said excitedly.

'Indeed there is no God.'

There Kaido was blabbing about how there isno God when

"Hello! I'm Kusuo's dad"

"And I'm his mom! You're so cute! Thank you so much for being friends with Ku."

Kaido panics and stutters as he introduces himself to Kusuo's parents

"I actually wished for Kusuo to have many friends!" Kurumi said excitedly "And it's already come true!"

Kaido goes to the shrine to pray while Saiki's parents continue to gush about him. The said boy prays in the shrine for more friends and Saiki sees that his prayer comes true as Hairo shows up. Kusuo's parents get more and more excited that their son actually seems to have friends (besides Emiko). Hairo prays for a worthy rival and who arrives but Nendou. Saiki gets annoyed that every prayer seems to gets answered except for his. He feels a familiar presence nearby and searches for it. He then sees a head of light pink hair go to the shrine, do the ritual and then pray.

'I pray that you always keep the people I care about safe. The new friends I made here and the ones that were left behind in Hokkaido. Actually, also protect them even if I don't care about them or know them. If I can help any of those in trouble, please give me the strength to do so. I also pray that you are real and that you can help those who really need it.'

Saiki narrowed his eyes at her rather odd but thoughtful prayer.

"Hey! Isn't that Hiro?" Hairo pointed out.

"Hey it is!" Said Kaido.

"Emiko!" Yelled Nendou.

The said girl turned to whoever called her voice. She spotted her friends and waved she went to her family and together they approached Saiki's.

"Happy New Year, everyone! Beautiful day, isn't it?"

'Yes...' Majority of men sighed as they saw her.

'No.' Saiki thought.

"Here are my parents! Mom, Dad, this is Hairo, Kaido and Nendou!"

"Hello, everyone, nice to meet you all! Thank you for being such good friends to Emiko. She loves going to school because of you guys." Eito said as his eyes crinkled. He saw Kuniharu and chuckled. "Well here's a good looking man."

Kuniharu laughs "Not so bad yourself."

In a flash, Kurumi and Ena were talking as if they were already in a middle of a conversation.

"It seems like your parents are close." Said Kaido.

"Oh yea, they are." Emiko said.

Suddenly, they hear the sound of the temple bell carelessly being rung and see that the culprit is Nendou. Kuniharu approaches Nendou and teaches him how to do it. As he does, he makes another prayer.

'I pray that Emiko falls in love with Kusuo and they end up being happy together.'

'What now?' Saiki exclaimed in his head.

Another of his eccentric classmates show up with the purpose of completing everyone's happiness in New Year's day.

Her classmates greet her and she internally panics as soon as she sees Emiko. Emiko, who can't read people's minds introduced her to her parents and Teruhashi panics again as she sees that the parents of her pink headed classmates are close. Nonetheless, she convinces herself of being the perfect girl and maintains her composure.

Saiki turn to leave the group in a huff as his prayers didn't seem to be answered when Kurumi invites everyone over at their house to celebrate the New Years and eat. Everyone eagerly agrees and Eito asks if they should bring the food that Emiko prepared so they would have more to eat.

Saiki sighs knowing he won't have a quiet New Years.

"Wow! This mashed sweet potato and chestnuts are great!" Cried Nendou.

"Eat up!" Kuniharu said cheerfully.

"I love eating!" Said Hairo

"This tofu is amazing, Oba-san." Complimented Emiko as she was a major tofu fan.

"Oh it means so much coming from you!" Kurumi smiled at Emiko.

"This is very good! Please teach me how to make it!" Kokomi asked Kurumi not wanting to be overshadowed by Emiko.

"Of course I will! But you'll have to ask Emi-chan how to make that dumpling!" Kurumi said.

'What! This fantastic dumpling is made by Emiko?' Teruhashi said trying not to experience an existential crisis.

"I'll gladly teach you!" Emiko said happily. "I'm sure you're a great cook or if not, you definitely have the makings of one!"

Conversations flowed through the dinner table easily. They learned more about Kusuo's and Emiko's parents. Emiko would tell them little anecdotes of each of her friends and all would laugh in good fun. She looked over to Saiki and saw the he was sitting on chair away from the table 'No doubt unhappy about the intrusion in his solitude.'

Saiki heard this and smirked. 'Spot on.' He looked over to Emiko who motioned him to sit with all of them. He sighed and did so.

"Thank you everyone for being Ku's friend!" Kurumi said happily.

"You don't have to thank us!" Hairo exclaimed passionately. "We want to be his friends."

Ena smiled at that declaration. Kurumi often confided in her that her son was always so distant and aloof that she was afraid he'd never make any friends.

Kurumi's eyes softened "You're right. Thank you. I'm just so happy. Ku-chan has never had many friends because he's a psychic."

The room becomes quiet.

''I have a quiet New Year's1.' Saiki thought dryly.

"Do you guys know the Shonen Jump logo?" Kuniharu asks attempting to drive the conversation elsewhere. "You know, that pirate one?"

"Yes, I'm familiar with that one." Hairo says quietly.

"If you turn it 90 degrees over, it looks like a girl's side profile!... I just thought I would point that out."

The room stills again until Nendou says "Oh there! I see it!" Everyone except for the Hiro family becomes excited over it.

'Good save, Nendou.' Saiki thinks to himself.

"So, what's the psychic thing you mentioned?"

'Get out.'

The rest of the group's time turned into more obligatory conversations until it was time for them to go.

The Hiro family stayed a bit longer. As the parents were conversing, Emiko took Kusuo aside. He didn't know how to get out of this situation so he went along with it feeling a bit nervous.

"Is the Psychic thing true?" Emiko asked Kusuo.

Saiki didn't respond.

"We're best friends. You can tell me." She said softly.

'Aren't you hiding something as well?' Saiki said attempting to redirect her question.

"I'll answer that as soon as you answer my question."

'The truth?'

"The truth." Emiko said resolutely.

Both were really quiet until Kusuo finally said

'Yes. I am.'

"You're good at hiding it."

'Years of practice. And you have powers, don't you?'

"Yes. What made you first suspect it?"

'Stories for another time.' Saiki said not really wanting to shock her right away that he had been privy to a lot of her thoughts. 'What are your powers?'

"Hmph. Stories for another time." She mocked him.

He smirked. 'Fine. One of the few things that made me suspect that you had powers was when you were sick. Light would flash whenever you sneezed.'

"Geez. I was careless." Emiko laughed. They were quiet again taking in all the information.

"So you can read minds."

'Yes.'

"Saiki."

'Yes?'

"That time, we went to Kohi to Kashi, did you know that I didn't want to go?"

'Yes.'

"You heard my inner struggle."

'Yes.' He answered not knowing where this was going.

"And yet you still decided to go?"

'Yes.'

"Why?"

'Two things. I thought it might reveal something about your power and hm, seeing you struggle was fun.'

Emiko laughed. "You are mean."

'Maybe just to you.' He joked.

Emiko bit her lip. "This is not how I imagined telling anyone of my power. It's rather anticlimactic."

'I didn't know my mother would blurt it out either.'

The two powerful beings were quiet for a moment.

"You'd think people revealing their powers to one another would be an earth shattering moment."

'Would you prefer it to be chaotic?'

"No. This is fine."

'I'm a bit surprised at how you didn't seem so shocked at all.'

"Well that's because I've met others with powers."

Saiki's eyes narrowed.

'There's a lot more of us?'

"I wouldn't say a lot. Just a few."

'You seem to have a mysterious past .'

"I do." Emiko looked at Saiki seriously "And I do my best to forget about it. I'll tell you when I'm ready or maybe I won't, but until then, I prefer you don't ask me."

'You have my word.'

Emiko's eyes softened. "Thank you."

'I still don't know what your powers are.'

"It's easier to show. Out of curiosity and convenience, would you happen to have mind altercation? I'm afraid our friends might think about what your mother said too much."

Saiki gave a small smile 'You read my mind.'

"That's not one of my powers, I'm afraid."

'Great. I've eliminated one out of a million possibilities." He said sarcastically.

"I'd show you, but I would need to remove my canceller and I'm not sure if there will be an energy burst if I remove it."

'Well, I suppose we can't have that.' He looked at Emiko. 'Hold my shoulder. It'll lend you my abilities for the moment. I'll show you how I alter memories.'

"Another step into a best friendship-hood, wouldn't you say?" Emiko said as she held his shoulder.

'I'm not keen to say this as your ego might get larger' Saiki said jokingly 'But in a way, I'm glad I don't have to hide it from you.' He said sincerely as they turned invisible.

"Aw. That was unexpectedly sweet."

'Don't tease me or I'll take it back.'

"Fine, fine." Emiko grinned. "I'm glad too. It's hard to hide one of the largest parts of our identity."

Saiki said nothing and summoned a nana shaped object. 'Don't worry. This won't hurt them.'

"Okay, but does it need to look stupid?" Emiko whispered.

Saiki just gave her a look and proceeded to hit the heads of their friends.

After altering the memories of their friends, Saiki and Emiko walked back to his house and Saiki explaining the setbacks and possibilities of what he had just done.

"You seem to have been doing that a lot."

'My mother would slip up a lot.'

"What other powers do you have?"

'Psychometry, Psychokinesis, Super strength, telepathy, Clairvoyance, levitation, astral projection and mind control. That's to name a few.'

"Wow. You're a really powerful guy. I'd say you were a lot stronger than me."

'We don't know that.'

"No, I'm pretty sure you are." Emiko paused. "My power is basically energy manipulation."

'Have you mastered it?'

"Sorta."

They stopped outside Saiki's house and looked at the front door.

"What are they talking about?" Emiko asked.

'Our powers.'

"I see. Didn't wait for our consent, did they?" She said in good humour.

'Parents. What can you do about them.'

Emiko giggled. "It makes sense now."

'What does?'

"How you seem to never open your mouth."

'One of the few things, that aren't so bad about having powers.'

"You don't like your powers?"

'No.'

"Oh." Emiko said quietly. "Well let's go in."

Saiki wondered briefly at her slight change in behaviour but was overwhelmed by their parents' glomping.

"God certainly has a way of connecting us all!" Kuniharu said with tears in his eyes.

"We should have realised why our families seemed so connected!" Eito said also with tears in his eyes.

"Our children are so wonderful and special!" Kurumi said with (no doubt you guessed it) tears in her eyes.

"What a beautiful, beautiful way to start the New Year!" Ena said in tears.

'They're so dramatic.' Saiki said telepathically to Emiko.

Emiko was surprised at the sudden voice in her head and realised that it was Saiki (I mean, who else?).

'I know.' She replied. 'Although it's kinda nice to see how much they care of us and each other.'

After hugging their kids, they all sat together and spoke about how special their children are.

"You're all keeping this a secret, right?" Emiko said to make sure.

"Of course, dear! We won't breath to a soul about you or Kusuo." Kuniharu said.

'Uhuh.' Saiki thought sarcastically.

"Your secret is our secret." Said Eito.

'Oh my. My Ku-chan and Emiko are more meant to be than I thought previously.' Kurumi thought happily.

'Stop, Mother. We're just best friends.'

"Best friends?" She said out loud. "You have a best friend?" Kurumi repeated. "I thought this day would never come." She said with tears in her eyes. Kuniharu asked who was his best friend and in learning who, he started tearing up as well. Ena and Eito also teared up because Emiko had someone she could be herself with.

Saiki and Emiko sweat dropped.

'Do all parents with powerful kids act this weird?' Emiko asked Saiki in their telepathic link.

Saiki gave her an I wish knew look. Then they smiled.

Shoutout to admiral809 for his suggestion on having both families be Kurumi slips up about Saiki's power and having both families agree to keep it a secret. As well as the very first few people who reviewed my story. It means a lot, truly.
