Chapter 10
Jimmy planned a nice picnic lunch for Lou. He had went into town and got everything that he needed. He needed to do something nice for her. Everything had been such a mess lately. He waited for her behind the barn. She walked over to find him smiling and waiting.
"What's all this?" She smiled.
"Thought you could use a break. Come on."
Jimmy had saddled her horse and was waiting patiently. She swung up into the saddle and followed him. He rode for quite a while until he came to a field in a valley full of wildflowers. He pulled to a stop.
"This is beautiful." Said Lou in awe.
"I thought you would like it." Jimmy smiled back at her.
He dismounted and spread out a blanket. He pulled down the basket of food that he had brought from town. Lou eased down from her horse. She watched as he got everything ready.
"Come sit. Take a load off." He laughed.
She sat across from him on the blanket. She listened to his deep laugh. It seemed to touch her to the core. She stared at him while he talked not really hearing a word that he was saying.
"Lou? You alright?"
"I'm fine. Just overwhelmed by what's around me. It's gorgeous here." She said.
"I just wanted to bring you here. I come here to think sometimes when I need some quiet."
"It's pretty special."
"Just like you are to me."
Lou looked again in Jimmy's eyes. Nothing but love for her shown in them. She swallowed hard.
"Jimmy, I need to talk to you about something."
"What's that?" said Jimmy watching some butterflies fly by them.
"I've been thinking. I've been doing a lot of thinking."
"Dangerous." Laughed Jimmy.
"This is serious."
"What's wrong Lou?"
"Jimmy, I feel like this isn't what I want. I love Kid. He was my first love and the one I can never forget. I've been talking to him again lately and I feel my heart drawn back to him. I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt you in any way. I love you, Jimmy. Please don't take this the wrong way. Please understand."
Jimmy's smile faded. He watched her expression. He felt his heart fall out his chest.
"What?"
"I'm so sorry." Lou said as she started to cry.
"That's it?"
"I'm so sorry. Please understand. I don't want to lose you."
Jimmy sat. He felt like he couldn't breathe. His entire thoughts of hope, gone. He stood up and went to his horse. He climbed on. Lou ran over and touched his leg.
"Please understand."
"Whatever."
Jimmy turned his horse and rode away. Lou watched him go. She let the tears fall. She slumped down onto the blanket crossing her arms over her chest. She looked up at the clouds as they passed by. He had to understand. She prayed that he would understand.
The End for now...
