Nicole had lived in Manhattan for six months. Her job was busy and hectic but she loved it. It was everything she'd always wanted. She was so excited for the weekend. She and John were spending a rare weekend together. She worked overtime to make sure all of her paperwork, from all of her cases were done so she could spend all her time with John. It was around seven o'clock when Nicole heard the front door open from the kitchen. John came in.
"I'm here." He said.
"Kitchen." He went into the kitchen. "Hi." She said happily and smiling.
"Hi." He said just as happily. They kissed. "I bought some of the wine we like."
"Dinner's almost ready."
"It smells good." "What are we having?"
"Roast, mashed potatoes, and corn bread."
"You didn't have to go through all the trouble."
"It's no trouble, I'm starving." "How was your flight?"
"Good."
After dinner they were sitting on the couch drinking wine and talking.
"That was another great meal." John said.
"Thanks."
"How was work today?"
"Great." "I won my case."
"That's great." "Did the theater tickets come?"
"Yeah that's gonna be so fun tomorrow night." "Do you know if you got the part yet?"
"Not yet but I'm hopeful."
The next morning Nicole was asleep.
"Nicole." John said softly. "Wake up, breakfast."
She opened her eyes and sat up. He put the tray in front of her. "Aw honey, you didn't have to make me breakfast."
"I wanted to." "Plus I was hungry to." "Someone took a lot out of me last night." He said smirking at her.
"Come here." He bent down they kissed. "You were amazing last night."
"So were you." He got his breakfast and got in bed next to her.
"This is delicious."
"Thanks." "Did you remember to make the dinner reservations?"
"Yes." "Seven tonight."
Later that night they were getting ready to leave. John was in a suit. Nicole had on a light blue dress.
"You look beautiful." John said.
"Thank you." "You look so handsome."
They were at dinner. They were holding up their wine glasses. John was making a toast.
"A toast to you, my rock, the one who I can always talk to, the one who I can always count on, the woman I love more then anything else in the world." They clinked their glasses together and took a sip.
"You're so sweet."
They'd had a great time at the theater that night.
In the middle of the night John got up to go to the bathroom. When he got back in bed a still sleeping Nicole snuggled up to him. He smiled feeling completely at ease and peaceful.
The next day they were hanging out at the apartment. John was laying on the couch. Nicole came up to the couch.
"Want any company?" She asked.
"Come here Nicole." She laid down on top of him. He put her arms around her and kissed her forehead. "I wish we could do this more often."
"Me to."
"Nicole."
"What?"
"Do you think you'd ever want to get married again?"
She was caught off guard by the question. She looked at him. "Why?"
"Just curious."
"I would."
"That's good to know."
"Why?" "Do you know anyone who wants to marry me?" She asked smiling.
"Maybe, someday." He kissed her.
