Words Aren't Enough
Chapter 17
Sometime Later
"Can i get you something to eat or drink.?" Haley asked.
Lucas shook his head from side to side. "No thanks though. I just came by to say i know you and you're kids are going through alot right now. And i wanted to make sure you knew that Nathan and I's issues have no barring on our relationship. I want to be a support system for you and the kids." He said.
Haley reached over putting her hand in his.
"I feel the same way. I'll be there for you and Astrid. For today and all the days afterwards." She said.
"We are going to be staying with my parents for awhile until i'm able to figure out what comes next. Once we get a house a new adress i'll reach out." Haley said.
"I'll be on the look out for that. Let me know if you need any help. I should get going Brooke is waiting for me at the hospital." Lucas said.
"The two of you take care of each other. Don't let anything else get in the way. When Astrid is back home Jamie and I will come over for a visit." Haley said.
"We would like that." Lucas said. Getting up from his seat. Turning from her as he headed towards the front door.
Lucas left the home and got into his car. He pulled out of the parking lot and began to drive down the street. Taking his time wanting to clear his mind and focus on what mattered the most which was his daughter.
The echo of the ambulance coming down the street. Caused Lucas to pull over.
He watched as the ambulance bypassed him. His heart sinking as he saw it go in the direction of Nathan and Haley's home.
Lucas picked up the speed as he drove back to the hospital.
By the time he got through the double doors.
He was met at the entrance of the hospital with Brooke falling apart at the seams.
Lucas wrapped his arms around her. Wanting to console but nothing he did seemed like enough.
Brooke buried her face his chest. Tears running from her face.
"Nathan's dead!" She exclaimed. Her voice breaking with emotion.
She had been one of the many people in the waiting room when the ambulance brought in the well known basketball star.
There was no need to attempt to work on him. He was dead at the scene. Time of death 12:00 am the next day.
Hours Later
The next day
The news of Nathan's death spread through the small town like a fire no one could contain.
Haley was seeking refuge with her parents avoiding visitors. Jamie was in a state of anger and disbelief.
Brooke was riddled with guilt over their last encounter.
She went straight to her home from the hospital and wasn't anwering phone calls and texts.
As for Lucas his main priority was taking care of Astrid and being by her side.
...
Days Later
Astrid was at last being discharged from the hospital. Lucas wheeled her out towards the car. And helped her into the passenger side door.
She hadn't slept, eaten, or spoken to anyone in days. She was in a state of shock and disbelief. Rapid knocking brought Brooke out of her haze.
She put on her slippers tightened her robe and walked towards the entryway. She put her hand on the doorknob turned it and pushed open the door.
"You killed him! You killed my son you Bitch!" Dan Scott yelled.
"We know all about the fight you and Nathan had. Where you're friendship ended! It wasn't enough to hurt him the way you did you had to take him from us!" Deb exclaimed. Her voice full of emotion.
Brooke stared up at them.
"Nathan was my best friend. Yes i was hurt and angry over who he became and what he did but i loved him! I didn't want to lose this way!" Brooke yelled.
"Don't bother coming to the funeral or anything else we put together to celebrate his life. Nathan is gone. You are dead to us. And stay the hell away from Jamie!" Deb yelled.
The two turned from Brooke and left the home.
The James Home
"I hate you!" "You left my daddy and took me with you. He was all alone and now he's dead! Leave me alone!" Jamie Scott yelled. Running away from his mother as he slammed the door to his bedroom.
