The war was finally over, the First Order had been eradicated, the Galaxy was safe, and Ben's probation was officially completed. The years it took to take down the First Order were a struggle, but ultimately, Ben and his knights were a great asset and the tipping point to the war.

The Resistance bases were emptying as fighters headed home to rebuild, and Leia had already left to Coruscant to reinstate a Galactic senate.

Rey found herself on a hill, overlooking the latest Resistance base, thinking about where she was headed next.

Ben set his hand on the small of her back. "Are you ready?"

She shook her head. "Not quite."

"Do you miss it already?"

"The fighting? No. The sense of purpose? I do."

"There is a new purpose."

Rey nodded, and her shoulders relaxed. "Do you think people will remember how to live a life without war?"

"No, but we don't want to remember. We want to live that life."

Chewbacca called to them from the Millennium Falcon.

"Alright, we're coming, we're coming," Ben laughed. "You know you'll see them all again, don't you?"

"I will, but they have their own lives to live and own homes to build." She finally turned to follow Ben to the landing pad where Chewie was waiting. "And we have our own to build." She suddenly reached out and took his hand, making him stop.

He smiled down at her. "Yes we do."

Her eyes flit over his face, and she announced in the most confident tone he had heard from her, "I will marry you now."

He didn't believe those words at first. He had resigned himself to simply love her and be there for her as she had refused his proposal years ago. "You will?"

"We can get married now," Rey said, quirking her head. "We're not in the middle of a war. We're not on opposite sides. You're not at risk of execution or imprisonment. I'm not the Resistance's Last Jedi hope, anymore. We're just...us." She beamed up at him. "If you still want to."

"I've always wanted to marry you," he promised. He took her in his arms and kissed the top of her head. "When? Where?"

"I'd say here and now, but Leia would kill us if she weren't here." She snuggled up to him, resting her head on his chest. "I'm sorry I made you wait so long."

"I would have waited for you forever."
