Sorry for the short chapter, I'm sort of having a block on this story, but I refuse to quit it. I have thought much farther ahead on my other Merlin story, whose first chapter came out yesterday, so if you're interested check that out. If you have any ideas for where this could go I'd love to read them. Thanks so much for reading.

"So…?" Was the main question posed. Arthur was, undeniably the new King. The Queen happily gave up her seat. The rest of her family was confused and angry. But all she could say was,

"This was the way it was supposed to be." Humanity was thrown for a loop. Suddenly, magic was real. It was a strange clash, to have modern technology along with Magic. But Merlin said it would take a long time before magic was as common as it once was. Kilgharrah appeared on the grounds one day. With him, appeared Gwen. Arthur had not been expecting this. They ran crying into each other's arms.

"Is that all?" Merlin asked hopefully.

"Gaius lived long past his time. He has agreed he will wait to reunite with you in the next world." Merlin nodded sadly.

"Are you leaving now?"

"I see no other purpose for my being here. You are now far wiser than I, and have seen many more things." Merlin looked around, thinking.

"I'm sorry." He said quietly.

'Whatever for?"

"It's a horrible feeling. To live so long. I look young, but I can feel the age in my soul. It's hard to watch each generation grow, knowing you are their guidance, and that you have none for yourself. I have a feeling I was difficult, that I made it harder for you" Merlin sighed. He has long been ready to die. Kilgharrah shook his head.

"On the contrary, you made things feel normal. I will see you shortly." He then flew away. It took a surprisingly short amount of time to settle into the new normal. Merlin was tempted to let go then, but he knew he must first bring peace to all of the earth. He looked over at Gwen and Arthur. He had never seen either of them smile so much. He hadn't fallen in love since Freya. And he didn't want to ever again.

"I'm taking a walk!" He shouted. Gwen waved but said nothing. He couldn't blame them. He arrived at the lake where Freya was sent off. He sat next to the water and weaved a wildflower through his fingers.

"I feel empty now. Like I've completed my mission. I know I haven't, but the world is always going to need improvement. When exactly am I allowed to sign off? My goal was, wait for Arthur, wait for Arthur, wait for Arthur. Arthur's here! What now?" She never responded, but he could feel her presence. He sighed.

"I love you." He said quietly. And I, you. He felt her response. He smiled a bit.

"See you soon." He stood, and walked away.
