If you told Draco Malfoy he would be sitting in this exact spot, with this exact girl a couple of years ago, he would have laughed in your face, and maybe even thrown you a jinx for the mere suggestion of a possibility. Yet, here he was.
Basking in the late afternoon sunlight, with none other than Hermione Granger.
"Can I ask you something" his voice rang, mixing with the crisp October air. She turned to look at him, leaning against a tree, surrounded by the golden light.
Draco almost lost his words, taken aback by her goddess-like beauty.
" What is it Draco?" she asked, after a few seconds of his staring.
He took a breath to calm his nerves and sat up straight, mentally preparing himself.
"How can you be so forgiving?" seeing her confusion, he continued.
"I've called you some truly vile things Hermione. How can you bear to be sat here, next to me?"
The sincerity in the boys' eyes took the Gryffindor by surprise. She brought her knees up and wrapped her arms around them, hugging them to her chest.
"Well," she took her time answering, wanting to give him a well thought out answer to such an important question.
"I suppose I just don't have it in me to hate you."
Draco opened his mouth to speak but Hermione shushed him with a wave of her hand.
" To put it simply, you apologised and I forgave you. It's easier on my heart to forgive people. But most importantly, if I hadn't forgiven you, I would never have gotten the pleasure of meeting the Draco Malfoy I know today. And that would be harder on my heart than hating the 'you' I knew back then." The Slytherin boy didn't know what to say. He had completely forgotten how to form words. So, he didn't use any. With tears in his eyes, he took the girls hand in his and placed a soft kiss on the back of it.
"Thank you." He finally spoke, tears spilling over and rolling down his cheeks.
