Confrontation
Huey was waiting on Caesar to appear. He tapped the pen on his desk absentmindedly, staring off into space. Huey wanted to understand it; he wanted to know what was running through Caesar's mind. He came out his trance when he heard Riley talking to someone, no doubt it was him. He turned in his chair to face the guys in the entrance.
"Yo, Huey! What up? Everything okay? Sounds like you about to tell me someone died. Shit sound serious over the phone." He came in laughing; Riley's nosy self lingered at the door.
"Can I get in on the conversation?" he asked innocently.
"No, piss off Riley."
"Well damn, okay." Riley flinched and closed the door behind him, that rare occasion where he didn't feel like arguing with his brother. Huey said that with so much malice, Riley had no choice to let him have that. Granddad was cooking anyway, so he'd just go help him. Caesar's smile lowered a bit.
"Hey, everything's good?" Huey narrowed his eyes as he crossed his arms.
"No everything isn't good, Caesar, what the serious fuck is your deal?"
The room was quiet for a while, until Caesar finally chuckled.
"Oh…I assume this is about…." Huey cut him off.
"I understand if you have to think about it, you left quite the shit trail my friend. Like a shitty snail leaving behind his slime for everyone else to smell." Huey continued.
"Ouch, what a hurtful comparison Freeman, especially coming from you, I'm quite insulted." Caesar stood up from the bed.
"Coming from me? What's that supposed to mean?" Huey felt himself getting heated, losing the control of the conversation.
"As I was about to say before getting rudely interrupted, I assume this is about Ming? Huey, I guess I should drop all appearances, I never liked that roach, and she never liked me."
Huey gawked before gaining his bearing back, "No! This isn't about Ming, although she is one of your trails. You lied on her to Ayanna! And to add insult to injury, you cheated on her with the bitch that cut her hair?"
Caesar's playful tone went out the window, "How….do you-? Never mind, I know how you know, and I'm bored, you never gotten bored Huey?"
Huey was at a loss, all he could do was stare at him until he continued talking.
"Huey, I crave a certain brand of…entertainment. I like conducting social experiments and watch human interaction. You once appreciated that about me."
Huey shook his head, but Caesar continued, "You and I are alike, that's why we get along so well."
"Man, I don't do this shit I-" Huey was cut off.
"You have the audacity to start going in on me about Ayanna but just a few months ago you were an emo loser too bent on…whatever the fuck you had going on to admit feelings you had for someone. Then…you used someone else just to save face. How are we any different?"
Huey did not like any of the wordings that was used, "First of all, the most staggering difference here is that I actually regretted acting like that and I wasn't with Jazmine when that was happening. I wouldn't have messed with someone that cut Jazmine's hair off, knowingly." He spat.
"You weren't regretting it when you were doing it." He pointed out, making Huey stumble on what to say next. Caesar ran his hands through his dreads and sighed.
"So I'll ask again, how are you and I any different?"
It was at that moment, Huey realized his friend had some serious issues.
"We're different because I want to do better…" he whispered.
"Being better is boring; I'm not a bad person just because I won't subscribe to you or anyone else's sensibilities. Ayanna needs to grow up anyway, she was too naïve. We aren't even adults yet, who takes high school relationships this seriously?" He ranted, but deep down he was having so much fun. Drama is fun, why was everyone so bent out of shape over it? He can't understand the problems.
Chaos is, life itself, essentially. He wanted to try to understand why Huey was so upset with him, but so far all he was listening to was hypocrisy and weird sense of self importance. He can want to be different all day, but the point was that he did use Daphne, he did play with Jazmine, and he knew it. Caesar didn't like being the only one called out.
"…What happened to you, Micheal?" Huey asked him seriously, he used his real name. Huey didn't believe anything of what he was hearing. It's true; they had plenty of philosophical talks about human interactions but…not to this degree. Not to the degree of intentionally creating something out of nothing. That was not normal behavior. It wasn't a healthy behavioral trait. Feelings were involved, and Huey was troubled with the reality that Caesar couldn't get what he was doing. He couldn't see why it was horrible, his actions towards Ayanna or Ming. This was beyond something Huey has ever dealt with.
Caesar just looked at him for a moment before turning and leaving the room, not answering him. Riley rushed in a few minutes after he left.
"What happened? Ya'll still friends? What he do?" Riley asked.
"Something's wrong with him Riley, really wrong. I didn't know the extent to how he thinks…"
"Well Ming said he was going to therapy….you thinking what I'm thinking?" Riley wiggled his eyebrows mischievously.
"Yeah, I do." Huey looked out the window, time to do some old fashioned, Freemen Brother style investigation.
/
School was back in session; Huey's stomach was sinking lower and lower as he walked closer to the dreaded building. Nature wasn't helping. The skies were gloomy and dark, a dull winter gray. Birds weren't chirping no wind for the tree branches to sway through; it was the most still Huey has ever seen.
An ominous feeling, it made him sick. Ever since his parents died, Huey felt like he became more aware of when a day would be bad.
"Riley, today is not going to be a good day." The same night he talked to Caesar, the same night he decided he'd investigate what Caesar was going to therapy for, he told him what happened.
"We could just skip….go ahead and go to the office Caesar went to." Riley tilted his head. Huey felt like he needed to be there but at the same time, he knew Caesar was there…everyone is there. This was the best time to go.
He wouldn't be around, Jazmine will find out…she'll be mad…but that's later. Reaching his resolve he nodded and Riley to cross the street and get on the bus. Sweat began to accumulate on Huey's hands. His breathing became shallow as he felt his chest tightening.
'Oh my God…am I having an anxiety attack?' Huey thought to himself in a panic. The tightening got worse as he hunched over, Riley put his hand on his back.
"Huey, are you okay?" Riley asked urgently. Huey couldn't answer.
"Relax, relax, relax. Yo, this shit is really bothering you."
Riley took his water bottle out of his bag and tried to make him drink.
"Don't worry so much…look…the shit is going to hit the fan, whether you want it to or not. Don't be so hard on yourself, this Michael dude just crazy as fuck. His childhood was obviously more fucked up than ours. Let me tell you something, I watched something on TV right-"
Huey tuned him out, it wasn't on purpose though. It was bothering him and he was worried. But this time, it took his body over. That dread feeling, the feeling something awful was waiting for him behind those double doors was something he couldn't shake. But what troubled Huey the most was that he didn't have to be there.
It was still going to happen regardless.

Sofia walked down the hall, bracing herself for today. Other students were happily chatting and going over what all they got for Christmas and their new years. But her circle, her circle was the Titanic about to hit the iceberg. She called herself looking for Caesar but she didn't see him. Sofia wanted to find Huey but he hadn't turned up yet either. Ming was standing at her locker, waiting.
"Hey." Sofia said, expecting something.
"Hey Sofie..." Ming responded, she gulped and looked around.
"Did you get a text from Ayanna?"
Sofia frowned and looked at her phone, "No, was I supposed to?"
"Yes. She's running late but she'll be here…she said not to go to your class 3rd period, but go to the gym."
"Why the gym?"
"That's where she'll be at our 3rd period." Ming said.
"Hey girls!" A cheery voice rang out from behind them. Jazmine saw the dire looks on their faces and frowned.
"Hey, something happened?"
"Yeah…something happened…will happen. But we don't know what yet." Ming said
/
It was 3rd period and Sofia made her way to the gym. "Hey squirt, aren't you lost? This isn't where you're supposed to be."
Sofia clicked her teeth and turned to see Caesar. Smiling, she leaned against the wall, taking in his features, studying him quietly. To the human eye, he seemed fine. Nothing was out of place, his smile looked genuine, but there was something in his eyes that seemed rather distant. Nothing was out of place on the outside; the inside however was something else entirely.
"You know what I want to be when I get older?" Sofia asked him.
"Indulge me." He shrugged, not caring about the change of gears.
"I want to become an investigator, but more specifically, a behavioral specialist of the lot that strays. Like serial killers."
"Ambitious, so you'd be like…a shrink for killers?"
"Not exactly, I study what makes them tick…what makes them…do the things they do. How about you become my lab rat so I can get experience?" Sofia smiled. Caesar laughed and stepped closer to her.
"You're gonna go far kid, you know I always liked you, Sofia. I like battling wits with you, I'm sure you'll solve many cases, and understand a lot of murderers, I mean also your fathers dead so you understand death pretty well already. There's nothing wrong with an early start with one's profession!"
Sofia smiled, "You're so cute, Michael Caesar. But I do implore you to be careful. Your beauty could cost you something you won't be able to afford."
"Are you threatening me?"
"No, I am warning you." Sofia chuckled.
"It's all the same…by the way, where is your friend? My girlfriend?"
"Caesar, cut it out. We both know you and her are no longer an item."
"Ahh, so she knows too, does she? I have no ill wills I hope we all can still be friends. We have all the time in the world for….forgiveness." Caesar's smile was wide and sincere. Sofia opened her mouth to say something when the gym doors opened. Ayanna walked in, looked around, and made eye contact with Sofia and Caesar. She did a small smile and disappeared into the girl's locker room.
"Ah yes well, as much as I love our banter, I supposed that was my cue to get going. I'll catch you around, kid." He hopped down the bleachers, stretching his arms as he did so. Sofia watched him walk away before Ming sat next to her.
"I really fucking hate that guy," Ming sighed, "I wonder why Ayanna wanted us here."
"Have you guys seen the boys?" Jazmine asked, "I haven't seen Huey or Riley all morning."
They weren't here, were they? Where are they?
/
When Ayanna walked in, the locker room was quiet. Daphne and Stacey looked at her expectantly.
"Hey Ayanna, how was winter break?" Stacey cooed, "It went well…how your break was?" Ayanna asked calmly.
"Bitch, we know you know, stop acting. You want to do something?" Daphne asked aggravated.
"Do something? Now, what would I do exactly? I could start something, but should I? I'd just get jumped again. Yeah, I know what your sister did Daphne, and I got to tell you, you won. You got me beat. I can't do anything." She smiled, and spoke again,
"Wait, there is something I can do…I'd like to apologize."
"Apologize?" the sisters asked incredulously.
"Yes, apologize. I walked in here thinking I was someone special and you took me down a few notches…you taught me well. I'm sorry. Now….let us go out here and enjoy our third period ladies!" Ayanna giggled and jogged outside after she changed her clothes. The gym room went furious with talking.
"That bitch is so loopy and boring, I should've known her ass wasn't going to do anything. I feel so cheated!" Daphne was heated; maybe this was some sick karma for denying Huey's apology. Stacey was left just as confused. But they all made their way outside.
/
Stacey saw Sofia, Ming, and Jazmine sitting in the bleachers and frowned. Hold up, these bitches weren't supposed to be in here. She looked over at Ayanna who was with everyone else doing their workouts. It wasn't unusual for the gym teacher not to yell at students who would cut class, but to have them there…it didn't sit well.
At that moment, the baseball teams were ushering out their equipment from outside; they got a new shipment of bats and was on the other side of the gym about to put them…somewhere, Stacey didn't know where they put the sport stuff. The guy stopped pushing the cart filled with bats and walked over to the teacher to talk.
"Okay guys! Free time! Grab the dodge balls!" he fanned his students away and began chatting. She continued to glare at the three girls, feeling uneasy. She began scanning the room for Caesar, he was trying to set up a basket ball game with the guys, his back was to Ayanna who still was across the court. Daphne was on the sidelines going over some dance moves with her friends, everyone was involved with something.
Making her way to the bleachers, she felt her frown harden.
"What are you three doing in here?" Stacey approached the crew.
"We're cutting, got beef?" Ming arched an eyebrow.
"Why today, of all days?"
"You know why." Sofia joined in the tension.
"You hos are seriously thinking to jump us?"
"No, we're here to-" Ming cut herself off and jumped up. Stacey whirled her head to see a bat fly straight into her vision.
She was instantly knocked out. Daphne screeched as she bolted to the other side of the gym. Ayanna wordlessly leaped off the bleacher and swung the bat dead in Daphne's mouth. She could feel teeth going down her throat. Ayanna continued to beat her with the bat until the trio got to her.
"Ayanna stop!" Jazmine yelled frantically. The gym was thundering with noises as the teachers were yelling to get pass the crowd that blocked the bloody body. The sports guy that was responsible for moving the bats were tending to Stacey in the bleachers.
/
Cindy walked down the hall as the 3rd period bell rang; kids were running and screaming like wild animals towards the gym.
"Damn what's going on in the gym?" She asked, a girl turned to her with bugged eyes.
"Bitch, you know that French girl who got her shit cut off? She just went ham! Beat the shit out of the Du'bois sisters! Beat them bitches with a bat!"
"WHAT!?" Cindy yelled at the top of her lungs as she made her way to the gym. Sofia had a lot of explaining to do; something was telling her she missed out on a heap of shit!

Huey felt better, they were at the mall. He needed to take a break before trying to work. Riley was honestly getting on his nerves, asking if he was okay every ten seconds. But Huey also liked it, he knew he was only doing it because he cared. He looked out the window, the skies were darker. But that sense of relief was shattered when both his and Riley's phone buzzed.
"Don't answer it. Let's get to work. You ready?" Riley stood up.
"…Yeah, let's do this." Huey matched Riley's determination as they continued on to their destination.
Bitch, you THOUGHT. LMAO. Until next time!
