Words Aren't Enough

Chapter 18

Weeks Later

Haley took a deep breath and placed her hand on her now visible baby bump. She was 10 weeks along in her pregnancy and the symptoms she was experiencing was nothing compared to her grief and the anger, regret, regarding Nathan's death. It all seemed like a nightmare she was living every day she awoke.

Jamie wasn't coping well at all. He was angry, lashing out, barely eating or sleeping and put all the blame for his father's death on his mother. Convinced in his young mind that if they had all stayed together things would of turned out differently.

Today was the day i dreaded but knew was coming. Nathan's funeral. Haley gazed over at Jamie reaching for his hand to hold as they went into the church.

He ran from her and instead went over to his grandparents. Holding on to both their hands as the three of them walked into the church together.

Haley had to pull together her emotions. Otherwise she feared she would never stop crying. She lifted her head high and began to walk towards the church doors.

Surprised to feel her hand get taken. She turned and looked up.

Haley's face softened at the sight of Brooke.

"I don't think you would come." She said. Finding it harder to push back the tears.

"I wouldn't of missed this. He was my friend for a long time. I loved him i'll miss him. Who he was too me." Brooke confessed.

"How is it possible that you read my mind. The verison of him i want to remember is the person i fell in love with. The kind of husband and father he was before it all changed. Am i foolish for that.?" Haley questioned.

"No you aren't you have to grief in you're own time in you're own way. If anyone tries to give you trouble over it they will have me to deal with." Brooke proclaimed.

The church bells rang loudly causing Haley to shutter.

"We should get in there." Brooke said.

Haley nodded her head in agreement. And followed Brooke's lead through the church doors.

The Scott Household

"What's going to happen to River.? Will he find me here.? Will he come after you.?" Astrid asked. While she and her father sat at the dining room table eating breakfast.

"He's going to prison. For a long time. Which means all you have to focus on is healing and moving forward." Lucas said.

"Speaking of moving forward i want to homeschooled. I think i would do better in the long run by doing that." Astrid said.

"I'll look into it and figure out how to make this a reality. I want you to succed you don't have to be in a classroom to do that. We can get you a tutor and you could progress at you're pace." Lucas said.

Hours Later

"Aunt Brooke!" Jamie exclaimed.

Brooke opened her arms and engulfed the young boy into a hug.

"My little man. I know today was really sad and that you're dealing with alot but you have me no matter what." She said. Locking eyes with him.

"Jamie go over to the dessert area and get some cookies to bring home." Dan said.

"Okay grandpa Dan bye aunt Brooke." Jamie said.

Deb stared Brooke down. Lifted her hand and slapped Brooke hard across the face.

"The nerve of you showing you're face here! This is for family and friends only you are neither. You betrayed him! abandoned him! Go to hell!" Deb yelled.

"Stop this! I can't handle all this fighting and hatred! I need some air!" Haley exclaimed. Turning from them all as she left the church.

"You heard my wife leave here. Consider you're place in Jamie's life over." Dan said.

"You're looking for somewhere to place the blame and guilt look in the mirror! " Brooke yelled. Before she stormed off.

Sometime Later

"I want to live with grandma Deb and grandpa Dan." Jamie Scott proclaimed to his mother as she was putting him to sleep.
