Quinn felt strange not walking into the ED for work. She was up stairs in pediatrics though. She had spent her morning in the neonatal unit doing checks on a premature baby she was hopeful would pull through.

Connor walked in while she was cuddling a newborn.

"Should you be doing that?" He asked.

"She was abandoned" She replied "I think a little love is good before she's taken away by social services"

"I got you something for your first day" He told her handing her a gift box.

"You know it's not my first day" She replied.

"You know what I mean" He said rolling his eyes.

Quinn put the baby down stroking her head and took the box. She opened the box and pulled out a locket. Inside it had a picture of her and Beth when she had come to visit with their daisy chains and one of Beth as a baby.

"I love it" She said pulling him into a hug.

"You don't cry remember" He teased.

"Way to ruin a moment Rhodes" She laughed wiping her eyes.

"I heard about last night" He said.

"Work and personal" She said

She had thought she say have heard something from Jay. She knew he had seen her. She hoped it really was undercover and he couldn't take five minutes to call or text her. Part of her worried she was just wrong about him. They'd had a summer together. Maybe she'd romanticized the full thing in her head. It wouldn't be the first time she'd fallen for someone like that.

Quinn was on her lunch break when Gabby stopped by.

"Are you picking up supplies?" She asked.

"Yeah" Gabby nodded "And I just thought I'd check in"

"Kelly?" She asked taking a seat on a bench and sipping her coffee.

"He may have said something" Gabby shrugged "I get it, undercover's how I met Jay, it's hard"

"If it was undercover" She replied.

"Look, my brother" Gabby told her "He's got in deep undercover; you get close to people, or you have to act like you are"

"I guess I knew but I didn't know" She sighed "And I can't talk to him, so my mind is making up a million stories"

"Long term relationships in our lines of work are hard" Gabby nodded "even me and Matt have our bad days"

"So, there's no hope for any of us" She said with a sad smile.

"The guy adores you" Gabby told her "In the meantime you've got your friends, you could talk to Will?"

"And tell him I currently think his brother's an ass?" She asked "I don't want to bring him in on my problems with Jay"

"I get it" Gabby said "I was there for Sylvie but Antonio's my brother"

Quinn said goodbye to Gabby and Sylvie and went back inside. She spent a lot of time shadowing the department head. Doctor Monroe was considered an expert in her field especially working with premature babies. Quinn was really excited to be working under her.

"You've been requested in the board meeting" Dr Monroe told her while she was talking with the nurses about the tests, she wanted run on a patient.

"Ok" She said furrowing her brow.

Quinn walked up to the board room. Sharon Goodwin was stood outside the door.

"Ms. Goodwin, what's this about?" She asked.

"I don't know" Sharon replied "I'm just waiting for Connor"

Quinn saw Connor walking down the corridor looking just as confused as she was. Sharon opened the door to let them inside.

"It's good to see you both" Biff said leaning back in a chair with the other board members.

Quinn just stood waiting. She wasn't in the mood for pleasantries.

"We have patients waiting" Connor said, "What's this all about?"

"We got your request for a hybrid OR in the emergency department" Cornelius replied.

"In order to fund something like that we need a lot more publicity for this hospital, more benefactors" Biff added "We need the two of you at fundraisers all week, talking about the benefits of the program"

"Is that all?" Connor asked.

"We're opening the new Elisabeth Rhodes psychiatric wing" Cornelius said "I expect you both to be there"

Quinn glanced over at Connor. She knew the issues with his father over his mother's death. She couldn't believe he was springing this on him in a room full of board members.

"And Quinn this week you'll be joining me at press conferences" Biff said "Sorry Doctor Fabray"

"I have patients" She said "Excuse me"

She walked out of the room followed by Connor. She wanted to punch the wall, but she knew she was still in sight and Ms. Goodwin was with her.

"Can he do that?" She asked.

"It's all over my head" Sharon replied "They've brought in new management, they're all about the bottom line, I'm fighting what I can"

"It's all just a huge power trip to him" She told Connor "It's a game showing me I might have left but he's always going to win, take my job, give it back. Wait until I'm in the place he knows I've always wanted and then take it away again"

"It's a week" Connor tried to reason.

"For now," She laughed "After weeks of suspension"

"Just go back to your patients" Connor told her.

"Actually" Sharon interrupted "Doctor Fabray has been asked to clock out for the rest of the day, she has a meeting this evening, the details are being emailed"

"How does a board member control her schedule?" Connor asked.

"It's gone through management, Gwen Garret" Sharon replied "She's controlling everything"

"Who brought her in?" He asked.

"Your father" Sharon told him.

Quinn stormed downstairs to her locker. She barely trusted herself to drive home she was shaking with rage. She decided it was best to go for a walk to calm her nerves.

"Clocking out already?" Will asked seeing her putting her coat on.

Quinn just broke down in tears and hated herself for it. She had built up that much frustration and rage that tears were all that would come out.

"Hey" He said sitting her down "What's going on?"

She just let it all out. Everything with Biff, her job, Jay, the girl, the undercover assignment. Just everything. Will just hugged her and let her get it all out.

"Do you want me to get someone to drive you home?" He asked.

"I'll be fine" She replied pulling herself together "Sorry for crying on you"

"You know you're family right" He said holding her by the shoulders "You come to me with anything"

"Even if your brothers cheating on me?" She joked.

"If he's dumb enough to hurt you I'll kick his ass" Will told her "But I know that wouldn't happen"

"Please" She said with a small smile "even I could take you"

"Back to your evil self already" He laughed patting her knee "This will all work out I promise"

Quinn felt lost. She thought about looking for other hospitals in the area but she had a suspension so she wasn't sure anyone else would touch her. She had opened her emails and saw she was supposed to be at a dinner meeting. The thought of going made her stomach churn. But not going could mean the end of her career. No one should be able to force her to go but money was a powerful thing and fighting it could take time even if she could win.

She decided to text Jay not that she thought she'd get a response. She'd been texting him Goodnight and Good morning every day just so he might know she was thinking about him even if he couldn't reply.

'I really need you – Q x'

She showered and got dressed. She put on her cold front just like she had in high school. She was taken a back when she got to the restaurant and it was a table for two. Biff stood as she was brought into the private back room by the host.

"What is this?" She asked.

"We need to discuss your future and the future of the hospital" He replied.

"Why don't you just go back to New York?" She asked taking a seat.

"Because I'm invested in Chicago" He told her "I invested in you"

"So, you're punishing me?" She challenged.

"I want what's best for you" He said as the waiter poured the wine.

Quinn put her hand out to decline. She wasn't going to sit and drink with him.

"You know this is only about you" She said.

"Quinn, I want you to have a great life and career, I don't get why you think otherwise" He said shaking his head "If the pressure of rising up is too much for you"

Quinn clenched her fist under the table. It was like it was two years ago all over again. When she had noticed things turning sour between them. According to him she was crazy or not coping. Always wrong.

"If you really want to sell a program then use an experienced doctor, I'm a resident" She said trying to keep her cool.

"But if you were my fiancé" He said "With the other hospitals and other cities, New York even"

"I will attend the fundraisers this week" She told him "But that's all"

"You don't want New York?" He asked, "And Beth?"

"Chicago is my home" She replied "Beth has nothing to do with this"

He was delusional. Quinn wasn't even sure she could have a reasonable conversation with him. She didn't know why he was even talking about Beth. There was something off with him and it was scaring her. It was the look in his eye. The way he spoke about their relationship like it still existed. He refused to ever talk about Beth before unless he was calling her a mistake and putting Quinn down more.

"I have to go" She said standing up.

"If you leave, you're going to regret it" He warned her "You can't just leave me"

Quinn picked up her purse and walked out without looking back but she couldn't shake the sick feeling in her stomach.

She didn't want to go home alone. Jay hadn't text her back and she knew Connor was with Robin.

So, she drove to firehouse 51. Kelly was sat on the roof with Matt. He saw Quinn's car pull up out front. He put out his Cigar and climbed down as she got out of her car.

"Are you ok?" He asked.

"I honestly don't know" She replied, "Is Gabby around?"

"Sure" He nodded "Come on in"

Kelly brought her through to the common room. She took a seat at the table while he went to get Gabby.

"Hey Quinn, what's wrong?" Gabby asked.

"Is there somewhere we can talk?" She asked looking around the room.

"My office" Kelly replied taking them both through.

Kelly sat in his chair while Gabby sat next to Quinn on the bed.

"I think I need to talk to the police" She said "Biff is starting to scare me, I don't know If I can go home, but I need to talk to someone I can trust, and I can't get hold of Jay"

"I'll call Antonio" She soothed rubbing her shoulder.

"Did he threaten you?" Kelly asked.

"Not outright" she sighed putting her head in her hands "He was talking about our engagement, he brought up Beth. It was the look in his eye, I don't know I got a bad vibe and I left. He seems different"

"Stay here for a while" He told her.

"I'm just overacting" She said shaking her head "I should go home; it was a hard day and I just overacted"

"Always trust your gut" Gabby told her "If you got a bad hit then I believe you, that guys been inserting himself into your life since he got here"

"And I'm not letting you go home alone" Kelly told her "Stay here I'm going to go talk to Boden"

Sylvie knocked on the door with a cup of tea.

"Thanks" She said with a small smile.

"What's going on?" Sylvie asked.

Quinn told them how she had been taken out of peds to be paraded around like a show pony. How Biff was buying into her family and her work. How he had never spoken about Beth by name, she was just always something he held over her head to prove a point about how he had looked passed everything bad she had ever done. He'd always called Beth her mistake. It was the thing they fought most about. But he had made her feel like she was lucky to have him and be loved at all. Just him saying her name set off an alarm bell for her. She was terrified he was do something to Shelby and Beth.

"Has he ever been violent?" Sylvie asked.

"He's never not gotten what he wanted before" She replied "When I left, I waited until he was at work"

"Antonio is sending someone by your place just to check on things" Gabby told her "He's gonna come by and talk to you"

Quinn squeezed Sylvie's hand when she saw her blush. It was so obvious she was still in love with Antonio.

The alarm went off for ambulance and truck. Kelly had told her to get some rest in his quarters and promised to wake her when Antonio got there. She lay her head down and just stared at the ceiling.
