The next day the group was back at the school, just after the bell rang to begin the day. "Josie, Sarah and Beth, you go to the Maths room. Crack open those computers, I need to see the hardware inside" the Doctor instructed, handing his sonic to Josie "Mickey, surveillance. I want you outside", the Doctor added turning to Mickey.
"Just stand outside?" Mickey asked. Sarah Jane chucked her car keys to the man.
"You can keep K9 company", she suggested.
"Don't forget to leave the window open a crack", the Doctor added.
"But he's metal!" Mickey exclaimed.
"I didn't mean for him", the Doctor said.
"So while we're poking around the computers, what will you be doing?" Josie asked.
"It's time I had a word with Mister Finch", the Doctor replied.
Josie crouched under the desk, scanning the computer with the sonic. "How's it going Jo?" Beth asked.
"Slow", the blackette replied.
"So, how long have you been travelling with the Doctor?" Sarah Jane asked the purple haired woman.
"Not long", Beth answered "since the invasion at Christmas".
"And…Josie?" Sarah Jane questioned quietly. Beth took the older woman off to the side to talk privately.
"Physically Josie has been with him for one regeneration", Beth answered "but in her dreams, she's been with him since the beginning".
"How does she have those dreams of him?" Sarah Jane queried.
Beth shrugged "we have no idea. I don't think Josie knows either. But I do know that its helped the Doctor. He's got someone who is aware of what he's been through, who can help him shoulder the burden", she said.
"Ugh!" Josie suddenly exclaimed gaining Sarah Jane's and Beth's attention.
"What's wrong Jo?" Beth asked hurrying over.
"This damn computer isn't budging. I think its deadlocked", Josie complained.
"But I thought the sonic could open anything", Sarah Jane frowned.
"Except deadlock seals and wood", Josie told her. She ran a hand through her hair "what are they hiding?"
"Hey, have you found anything out?" the Doctor asked strolling into the room.
"Fraid not", Josie replied glumly "its deadlocked".
"Must be a way to shift it", the Doctor said taking his sonic back and ducking under the desk to attack the computer. As the minutes passed, Josie amused herself by having a desk chair race with Beth.
Sarah Jane watched, amused as the young women laughed while they darted around on the chairs. Even the Doctor paused in his work to watch them with a smile on his face. It was nice to see his girl laughing and happy. The older woman then noticed some code scrolling down the screens. "Uh Doctor? You wanted the programme? There it is", Sarah Jane said gesturing to it.
"Some sort of code…" the Doctor said staring at the screen. Beth and Josie hopped off their chairs, considering the code.
"No… No, they can't be…" the Doctor breathed when he realised what it was "The Skasis Paradigm. They're trying to crack the Skasis Paradigm".
"Whats that when it's at home?" Josie asked.
"The…God-maker. The universal theory. Crack that equation and you've got control of the building blocks of the universe" the Doctor explained "Time and space and matter, yours to control".
"Blimey…no one should have that much power", Josie remarked.
"And they're using the kids to get it", Beth added "I really hate those freaks".
"But why use children? Can't they use adults?" Sarah Jane asked.
"No, it's gotta be children. The god-maker needs imagination to crack it. They're not just using the children's brains to break the code…they're using their souls", the Doctor said gravely.
"Let the lesson begin", Mr Finch said as he entered the room. The Doctor turns to face him. "Think of it, Doctor. With the Paradigm solved, reality becomes clay in our hands. We can shape the universe and improve it" the Krillitane said as he slowly approached.
"Oh yeah? The whole of creation with the face of Mister Finch? Call me old fashioned, but I like things as they are", the Doctor retorted.
"You act like such a radical, and yet all you want to do is preserve the old order? Think of the changes that could be made if this power was used for good", Mr Finch said.
"What, by someone like you?" the Doctor asked skeptically.
"No… someone like you", Mr Finch replied. The Doctor was a little surprised by that answer, it wasn't one he was expecting. "The Paradigm gives us power, but you could give us wisdom" Mr Finch told the Doctor.
"I'm not going to help you", the Doctor said. There was no way he was ever going to help Finch, not after what he for trying to have his Krillitane brother attack Josie.
"But imagine what you could do, if you had that power", the disguised Krillitane continued.
"No one should have that much power", the Doctor said, repeating Josie's earlier words.
"What about your people?" Mr Finch asked "you could be a hero for bringing your people back".
"He said he didn't want it", Josie said stepping up next to the Doctor.
"But you could be with him Miss Turner for all eternity. You wouldn't age…you could stay young forever", Mr Finch said, trying to entice her.
"Yeah…no I don't think so", Josie said. She snatched up the nearest mouse and threw it at the big screen "and this conversation is over!"
The Time Lord took Josie's very big hint, grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the room. Sarah Jane and Beth ran after them. The group raced down a set of stairs where they bumped into Mickey and Kenny at the bottom. "What is going on?" Mickey asked. Before anyone could answer him, three Krillitanes approach by half-flying, half- groping along the corridor. The Doctor and the others turn on their heels and run in the opposite direction. They enter the canteen and run across it to try the doors only to find they were locked. The Doctor reaches into his coat for his sonic, just as Mr Finch bursts through the doors followed by several Krillitanes.
"Are they my teachers?" Kenny asked staring at them.
"Yeah. Sorry", the Doctor said apologetically.
"We need the Doctor. As for the others…you can feast", Mr Finch said. At the Krillitanes swoop down on the group with the intent to kill them all save the Time Lord. The Doctor snatched up a chair to try and fend them off while the others tried desperately to avoid the bat aliens.
Suddenly a beam of red light hit one of the Krillitanes causing it to fall to the floor, dead. K9 had come to the rescue!
"Suggest you engage running mode, mistress" the metal dog advised.
"Come on!" the Doctor shouts and they all start running again. "K9, hold them back!" the Time Lord called as he ushered every one out of a door.
"Affirmative, master. Maximum defence mode!" K9 shouts and fires continuously at the Krillitanes and Mr Finch.

"Everyone ok?" the Doctor asked looking around at them all. They all gave him different versions of 'I'm fine' or 'I'm ok'. "Josie?" the Doctor asked looking at the blackette.
"I'm aok", she replied "Nice timing on K9's part. He's one awesome dog".
"He sure is", Sarah Jane agreed.
Beth held up a hand "Question. How are we going to defeat the Krillitane?" she asked.
"The oil. We can stop them with the oil because they've changed their physiology so often that even their own oil is toxic to them", the Doctor explained "How much was there in the kitchens, Earth Girl?" he asked.
"Barrels of it, Spaceman", Josie replied.
"Okay, we need to get to the kitchens. Mickey…" the Doctor began
"What now, hold the coats?" Mickey asked cutting in.
"Get all the children unplugged and out of the school", the Doctor said "Now then, bats, bats, bats. How do we fight bats?"
Kenny went over to the fire alarm and broke the glass with his elbow. The alarm blares which caused the Krillitanes to shriek in pain. The Doctor grins at the boy and flings open the door. He and the others race past the Krillitanes and Mr Finch who are in too much pain to stop them.
When they got to the kitchens, the Doctor went to one of the barrels and tried to use his sonic on it. "They've been deadlock sealed!" he tried another one "Finch must've done that. I can't open them".
"The vats would not withstand a direct hit from my laser, but my batteries are failing", K9 informed him.
"Right. Everyone out the back door. K9, stay with me". Sarah Jane, Rose, Mickey and Kenny run out the door. "Josie, you need to leave too", the Doctor said to her when she didn't move.
The blackette knelt down by K9 "Goodbye K9", she said softly, rubbing the top of his head "It was really nice to meet you".
"Likewise Miss Turner", K9 said. Josie lightly kissed his head and then left. Moments later the Doctor ran out, locking the door with his sonic.
"Where's K9?" Sarah Jane asked him seeing that her metal dog isn't with him.
"Sarah Jane we've got to move", Josie said taking her arm but the woman wouldn't budge. "Where is he?! What have you done!" she shouted at the Doctor. He didn't answer her, just took her arm. Together he and Josie pulled her away from the school. Seconds later the school exploded.
The kids cheered as paper rained down on them. Rose and Mickey also looked rather happy. "I'm sorry", the Doctor said to Sarah Jane quietly.
"It's all right. He was just a… daft metal dog. Fine, really", Sarah Jane said quickly. Josie rubbed her shoulder when the woman burst into tears.
The 12th Doctor brightened up when he saw Josie enter the café. "Hey", she greeted, sitting down at the table across from him.
"Hi", the Doctor greeted back.
"Thank you for saving my life, again", Josie said "I definitely owe you big time".
The Time Lord shook his head "no, you don't. You don't owe me anything", he said.
A waitress came over "what can I get for you two?" she asked.
"Two coffees and a plate of chips", The Doctor told her. The waitress jotted down their order and left.
"So have you found Wally yet?" Josie questioned.
"I gave up with those books", The Doctor told her "I've started reading…well re-reading Agatha Christie instead".
"I love those books! Her work is amazing. Murder on the Orient Express is one of my favourites", Josie said enthusiastically.
"Its not a bad story", the Doctor agreed. They chattered about Agatha Christie novels until the waitress brought over a tray with their coffees and plate of chips. "I heard Deffry Vale school got destroyed. I'm guessing it was the Doctor's doing?" the Time Lord casually remarked.
"It was", Josie confirmed. The pair continued talking about various topics until an hour had passed. "Can I expect another cameo from you any time soon?" Josie asked as she pulled on her jacket.
"You can count on it", the Doctor said.
Josie smiled "I look forward to it", she said and gave him a hug "until next time John".
