Out of a three month period Nicole and John had only saw each other five times. The last time they saw each other they'd celebrated their two year anniversary. They missed each other terribly. Nicole had been becoming rapidly popular at her law firm. She'd been there for a little over nine months and her lost case stats were still in single digits. She was in her office eating her lunch. She looked at the picture of her and John on her desk.
"Aw, does somebody miss prince charming?" Her colleague and friend Teresa said coming in.
"Yeah." "We haven't seen each other in a long time."
"Do you have that case profile for me?"
"Yeah." She handed it to her.
Thanks."
"You're welcome."
"When's John coming back to town?"
"Not for another month."
"Ooh." She said sympathetically.
"Yeah."
"I don't know how you guys do it."
"It's always been this way, since we started going out."
"Don't you wish you could be like a normal couple?"
"Sometimes but I know no matter how hard and frustrating it gets, I don't want anybody else, I love John."
"You guys have stronger willpower then I do." "I couldn't do it." "I've tried before and failed miserably."
"Let me guess." "College?"
"Yeah."
"Being away from each other makes John and I appreciate each that much more." "Most couples take each other for granted." "John and I truly cherish our time together because we don't get a lot of it."
"True."
"Plus I've told you how hot the sex can be after not seeing each other for long periods of time." She said smiling.
"Yeah, in detail."
Later that night Nicole was at home working on a case. Her cell phone started to ring.
"Hello?" She said.
"Hi honey." John said.
"Hi sweetie."
"What are you doing?"
"Working as usual." "What are you doing?"
"I just got out of the shower." "I can't stop thinking about you." "I wanted to hear your voice."
"You must miss me."
"I do."
"I miss you to."
"This next month is going to drag."
"I know." "How it go today?"
"Good." "How was work?"
"You know, I put away the bad guys same as usual."
"That's my girl." "So, what are you wearing?"
She laughed. "John."
"Come on, I need something."
"My pajamas."
"Which ones?"
"The white and red ones."
"You wouldn't be if I was there."
"I know." "We'd both take care of the clothes situation for each other." "I've gotta get back to work baby."
"Ok, I love you Nicole."
"I love you too John." "Bye."
"Bye."
Two weeks later Faith was at home. There was a knock at her door. She answered it and was surprised to see John standing there.
"John." She said surprised.
"Hi." "Can I come in?"
"Of course." He went inside. They hugged. "Is everything ok?"
"Everything's great."
"Do you want some coffee?"
"Sure."
They were sitting at the kitchen table.
"So why are you here?" Faith asked.
"Since I value your opinion, I'd like your permission to propose to Nicole."
"You have it a hundred percent."
"Thank you." "I want it to be a surprise she let's not tell her I was here."
"Ok."
"I don't know when I'm gonna do it yet." He took out his phone. "I'd like you to help me pick out a diamond for the engagement ring you think she'd like."
"I'd be happy to."
