That Time I Wrote Myself into an Isekai to Escape a Plague
**AN**
-So Krakatoa erupted.
-Quick note about the polls: I've created a couple polls that correlate to the story. I'd appreciate some feedback, particularly the "which character perspective chapters would you like to see" poll. I'll definitely be doing some Cersei chapters. The real reason Daenerys sent Missandei to Winterfell is so that I, the author, could have a POV character up there. I thought about doing a Daenerys POV but that aspect of the story I'm a little too close to to tell. Thank you very much.

Chapter 17:
This chapter is going to be weird.

By all accounts this is not a continuation of the plot. This is about me taking the time to talk through some of the…things…that have arisen as a result of the decision to write myself into the story as myself. I need to take the time to address it as me, the author, and not as me, the character. If you don't want to sit around for this navel gazing pretentious bullshit, I understand. Chapter 18 will be a proper continuation of the story dealing with the siege of Casterly Rock and it should be out tomorrow (4/11/20) or Sunday (4/12/20). Thank you.

Ok? Ok.

So, I always knew there would be a point where the me the author would have to fade away as the me the character found his stride in the story. I believe that time has come. If you haven't noticed, I haven't referred to my character by my real name in like ten chapters, and it's never going to come up again. There is now a real distinction between "Brady" and "Kamina". Brady is the author while Kamina is the character. Now, I'm still Kaminan but Kamina is more or less me if I had lived that life. So it's not me but it definitely is me…if that makes any sense.

This will retroactively change some pretty major things about the story. "The fiction" of his/my backstory is now just his backstory. This will be kind of messy as I figure out what the hell exactly translates into what. That also means I'm really settling into the "advanced stranger from beyond the stars" aspect of the story and will more or less be letting go of the "writer writes himself into his favorite franchise" aspect of the story.

The real reason I'm writing this as a chapter and not an author's note is because there are some substantial changes that be going into effect retroactively and you, the reader, should be made aware of them.

Kamina's Jedi master was Jaina Solo-Fell. He discovered the teachings of Revan during a time of political strife in the galaxy resulting from a new Sith lord rising and the Jedi counsel sucking. He more or less was attempting to start a coup to take control of the Jedi and initiate a revolution against the corrupted galactic republic, but was confronted by his master. They fought a duel that Kamina was losing, so he fled to a distant outer rim world he had been watching for a while.

This is how I'm basically going to explain his/my audience knowledge. He learned some ancient Sith/Jedi magics that allowed him to do remote viewing with a Palantir style device and he used it to watch the events of this world. As he became more attached to it (one person much more so than anybody else) he started to have nightmarish premonitions (season 8). Part of the reasons why his plans against the Jedi failed is because he started focusing on saving this world (read as "girl") instead.

Char is still the red scaled, sword swinging, ale drinking, dancing dragon he always was. Now just imagine him as a legally distinct version of himself as opposed to the "Charizard" he was originally described as. The allusions to Berserk can be understood as invoking the spirit of an ancient warrior spirit. Dragonslayer's name will probably not change. I've simply written it too many times to back track on it. Just imagine him as a "kanto dragon" raised by Kamina.

It will continue to be written in the first-person present tense. That will not change.

I want to reiterate, even though I'm allowing him to be separate from me, Kamina is very much me. He's probably an odd balance of an ideal and a self-analyzed me, but you can very much read his opinions and morals as my opinions and morals. I don't know how exactly it will translate yet, but he will also be retaining my blue-collar background and theatrical experience. Those are too core to his(my) sense of class consciousness and how politics is down stream of culture, culture is story telling.

What truly prompted me to make this change was the rapidly evolving dynamic with Daenerys. I LOVE Daenerys (I think that's plain for all to see) but I love her as a fictional character and representative figure. She is not my waifu, BUT when I do translate those emotional connections into their equivalent in a "meeting them for real" sense this is what they manifest as. I'm also doing this because I've always been against author/character pairings on the basis of bizarre power dynamics. When you're the author, your love interest cannot truly consent in any meaningful way by virtue of you being the person dictating what their opinion even is.

It's creepy and I don't like it. I want to be able to take this story where ever it should go without feeling like a creep for taking it there. So that is why the "me" in the text is no longer the "me" writing the text. Thank you for your time. Stay healthy, stay sane.
