Chapter 5: The Legacy of Moroni Harris: Part 2
We open with Frank driving with a police escort to the country side in Florida. He stops and looks at the house that is supposedly Moroni Harris'. He sees a simple house near the river with a Honda and Jeep. Frank gets out of the car and talks to the neighbor who is planting rose bushes. Frank coughs to get the man's attention and says, "Excuse me, sir. Do you know where Mr. Harris lives?"
The neighbor smiles and says, "Sure do. Right in front of you."
Frank becomes confused and says "I must have the wrong Moroni Harris. I'm looking for Moroni Harris, the famous writer."
The neighbor calmly replies "And you're looking right at his house. He's been my neighbor for a few years now. One of the nicest men I've ever met. Helped me plant my strawberries and oranges just two weeks ago."
Frank looks at the house and says, "I would think that a millionaire would live in a better place than this." He then turns to the neighbor and says, "No offense."
The neighbor smiles again and says, "None taken. I thought the same thing when he moved in. He told me that he didn't need a fancy mansion with butlers and nannies. No, he wanted a simple yet sturdy place where he can raise his children and grandchildren. A place that was in a beautiful country where he could breathe the free air and escape the chaos the world brings."
Frank, with a little disbelief, says, "He told you all that?"
The neighbor nods and says "Word for word."
Frank then walks up to the house and knocks on the door. Moroni's wife answers the door. Moroni's wife says, "You must be Frank Reagan. My husband told me that you'd be coming by today."
Frank smiles slightly and says, "You must be the lovely Saria Harris. How's he doing?"
Saria shakes her head to hold back her tears and says, "He's still walking with a cane. Doctors say the blow to his leg sent some of the shrapnel deeper into the bone causing it to refracture and might cause further infection."
Frank holds back a few tears and says, "I truly am sorry."
Saria swallows and says, "Just bring him back to me in one piece. I know why he's doing this, but I almost lost him once and I don't want to lose him again."
Frank nods and says, "I promise that I will protect him. I will bring him back to you. Just like I promised him that you'd all be protected while he is testifying. These men from the Florida Police Department will look after you and your family day and night until all of this is over."
Moroni comes to the door with a suitcase and says, "I'm ready, Frank. Let's take these punks down."
Saria gives Moroni one final kiss and says, "Be safe, love."
Moroni smiles and says, "Always."
The next thing we see is Moroni standing behind glass to do a police lineup. Erin, Frank and Danny are standing with him. Moroni IDs all the gang leaders that attacked him. The last one he IDs is the King's Gang Leader. When he does and they start taking him away he shouts, "I warned you boy! You're dead! You and you're family are dead! I know it is you, rich man, behind that glass! You asked for this!"
Erin calmly says to Moroni, "Don't worry, Mr. Harris. I'll be prosecuting them as soon as possible. They won't be able to harm you or your family ever again."
We then see Moroni on the stand testifying against the ten men that attacked him. The jury then find all the defendants guilty. As soon as they hear the verdict, all the defendants turn to Moroni and shout, "You're dead! You just signed your death warrant, rich man! Watch your back! Watch your back!"
The judge orders the men to be taken away until he decides how long to sentence them. Frank turns to Moroni and says, "You might have to stay here for a few days just in case their lawyers try to overturn the verdict. We'll keep you in a safe house until this matter is resolved as well as keep police at your place to make sure your family stays safe."
Moroni smiles and says "Thank you." Moroni then shakes Frank's hand.
Frank smiles back and says, "No. Thank you. Thanks to you, New York has become a safer place. With these men off the streets, our city can start to heal."
We then see Frank walk into his office with a smile on his face. Garrett and Sid are waiting for him and Sid says, "I guess the trial went well."
Frank's smile grows and says, "Guilty on all charges."
Sid smiles and says with joy, "That's great news. I also have good news. Since the trial, more witnesses have come forward to give their statements on other crimes that they witnessed these men did. We've also have gotten reports that there hasn't been a police shooting since those men were arrested. This gives us probable cause that they were indeed the ones with the high caliber weapons and put the hit on our cops. We're searching every inch of their neighborhoods to retrieve those weapons and get them off the streets for good."
Garrett smiles and continues the good news, "I've also gotten word that Moroni is keeping his promise and is starting construction on more schools, hospitals and supermarkets. The people are so grateful that more people are cooperating with our officers and helping us put away more criminals. All and all, the makings of a great day."
Abigail walks in and Frank says with joy "More good news?"
Abigail shakes her head and replies, "I'm afraid not, sir. We just got word that the ten men convicted this morning for jumping Moroni Harris have escaped."
Frank became filled with shock and asked, "How? When?"
Abigail replies, "Ten minutes ago. Apparently, an RPG hit the building the men were being held and all of them escaped through the hole. A mass shoot out then took place. Fifteen are dead and twelve are heading to the hospital now. One of the victims that was killed...was the judge of the trial."
Garrett, with great fear, says, "If the judge is dead, that means they'll be after all who convicted them."
Sid with even more fear says, "One of those being Moroni, who is in protective custody. With those men free, our city is going to become a war zone just to get to Moroni."
Frank, with great confidence, says, "Not on my watch. I want those men found and arrested at once. They will not turn my city into a battlefield. No more innocent blood will be shed today."
Opening Credits
We open with Danny and Baez driving to the crime scene. When they get there, they see all the mayhem and panic. Danny and Baez get out of the car. Danny looks at the large hole in the side of the building and asks one of the officers at the scene, "Any witnesses?"
Officer responses, "None."
Danny starts to get a little heated and says, "You're telling me no one here saw a guy with an RPG walk up to this building and fire a missile? This happened in broad daylight, out in the open, and no one saw a thing?!"
Officer swallows and says, "From what I've gotten out of the people here is that they saw an explosion and then massive gun fire. They aren't naming any names or pointing out any faces. They aren't even willing to testify who escaped during this riot."
Baez discovers something and shouts, "Danny! Over here!"
Danny rushes over and sees a large shell casing that is underneath one of the bodies. The body has burning around the face and his right eye looked like it had been gouged out. Baez calmly replies, "I think this is the one who fired the RPG."
Danny nods and says, "Looks like he didn't know what he was doing and got killed for it. The problem is someone else picked up the RPG. That means we still have an RPG and possibly three missiles out there. That kind of fire power alone can do massive damage to the city if used right."
Baez shakes her head and says with confusion, "I still don't understand. Why would anyone cover up a theft of high grade military equipment? I mean, there's no report, no inventory logs, nothing to show that these items ever existed or were stolen, and yet here they are, being used in our city."
Danny stands up straight and says, "I'm starting to see why it was a ghost story for so long. We have to find those guns."
This scene ends and we move to the scene where Frank is in his office with Sid, Garrett, and Abigail. Sid, as calmly as he can, says, "More bad news, boss. All the people willing to testify are retracting their statements. They're scared for their lives."
Frank, with frustration, asks, "Do we still have their written statements?"
Sid nods and says, "Of course, boss, but we can't use them."
Frank smiles and says, "Yes, we can. We can use them to see if anything can lead us to where they might go, what they might have done and who could have helped them out. I want to comb through all of it to see if there is anything important that we might have overlooked."
Sid smiles and says, "You got it, boss."
Sid rushes out of the room. Frank turns to Abigail and says, "I want you to warn the officers with Moroni. Tell them that the ten men Moroni testified against are loose and to arrange more protection for Moroni. Also get protection details on all the jury members and their families. I have a feeling they are targets as well."
Abigail nods and says "Yes, sir."
Frank turns to Garrett and says, "Garrett, I want you to get ahead of the public. I want to keep panic down as best as possible."
Garrett nods and says "You got it-" His phone rings and he looks at his phone and continues with worry, "That is going to be difficult. This was just posted online." Garrett walks over to Frank's computer and pulls up the video.
We see the leader of the Kings in front of the other leaders and men that broke out. The Leader of the Kings folds his arms and says with pride, "Our escape was a demonstration how the law can't touch us. As of right now, there is only one gang in New York City called the True Order. All of us have joined together to face one common foe, the rich white man known as Moroni Harris. This city is our city and this man threatens to take it from us using his wealth and power that should rightfully be ours. He decides what to use his money on, and it is not for the good of the people. He wants to enslave all of you. Make you believe that you need him in order to survive. We did fine without him and we'll be great once he is gone.
"We as the True Order now give the police of this city one chance to turn Moroni Harris over to us. Turn him over to us and we'll leave the city alone. But for every hour that he is not in our hands, we'll destroy parks, hospitals, subways, schools and playgrounds to remind this city who's truly in charge. We own this city. We own all of you. We can make your lives miserable, or filled with joy. Bring us Moroni Harris and we will give you a royal pardon. Not one gang member shall harm you or your families for the rest of your lives. Your hour begins now. If we don't have Moroni Harris by 2:00pm, we start our riot."
Frank stands up and says, "Trace this video. I want to know where it came from."
Garrett nods and says "Right away."
Frank sits back in his chair and says to himself, "How did this happen? How did it come to this?"
We see Danny and Baez walking down a long hallway. Danny knocks on a door and hears someone say, "What's the safe word?"
Danny calmly replies through the door, "Abinadi."
They hear the door unlock and an officer opens it. The officer looks at Danny and asks, "Detective Reagan. You got the crab cakes like I asked?"
Danny hands him a bag and says, "Here you go. Knock yourself out."
Officer smiles and says, "Sweet. Come in. He's in his room reading."
Danny and Baez walk into Moroni's bedroom and see him reading the Book of Mormon. Danny, as softly as he can, asks, "Hey, Moroni. How you holding up?"
Moroni looks up and says, "I'll be fine. Just a little worried that those thugs are loose once again."
Danny sighed and says with regret, "We're here to tell you that you can no longer contact your old buddies. I know that your still trying to help us figure out about the ghost convey, but talking to your old buddies could put you at risk."
Moroni nods, smiles slightly and says, "Well, it's a good thing I got what you need this morning, then."
Danny looks at Moroni with confusion and asks, "What do you mean?"
Moroni joyfully replies, "After the trial, one of my old buddies called back. He told me he got word about the convoy and discovered where the convoy disappeared to once it was stolen."
Baez asks with excitement, "Where?"
Moroni uses his cane to shakily stand up and says, "He told me that the unit tracked it to a dock near North Africa. They questioned the dock owner and discovered that a rich American had ordered the convoy stolen and paid a large sum of money for it to be delivered to Cuba. They sent men to Cuba and found out that the convoy was stolen by a drug dealer who got word of the shipment and its contents. A mission was then held off the books to retrieve the weapons from the drug lord. When the men got there, the drug lord and his household were found dead. Someone had come in that morning and wiped everyone out. That is where the trail ends. The material and drugs were all missing and no one knows what happened to them."
Danny, with great interest, asks, "Did he tell you more about the rich man that paid for the weapons to be stolen in the first place?"
Moroni sighs with regret and replies, "That, too, is a dead end. They knew that it had to be a wealthy American because the money trail was rooted to a city in Arkansas. They traced the IP address and found the place that the money was transferred to an abandoned building. No one had used it in years. It was a watch factory at one point, but as I said, no one had used it in years. They found a bunch of wires and cord that someone used to tap into the electrical system, but that was it. No finger prints, blood or any trace that anyone was there. That was when they gave up the investigation and turned it into a ghost story."
Danny nods and says, "So the last place the weapons were was in Cuba. Well, that is more than what we had earlier. I guess we'll start there and work our way to New York. They had to transfer them here somehow and there has to be some kind of paper trail that has been overlooked. Thanks, Moroni."
Moroni walks over to a desk and says, "Anytime. And I know you said I can't contact my friend anymore but…" Moroni writes down a few numbers on a piece of paper and hands it to Danny while saying, "You still can, right? Here are my friend's numbers. He'll give you the rest of the details and forward you the paper trail that he started."
Danny, with disbelief, asks, "Just like that? All that stuff must be highly classified."
Moroni smiles a little and says, "Let's just say he owes me a favor and this will make us even. Good luck, detective."
Danny nods, shakes Moroni's hand and says, "Thanks again, Moroni."
The scene fades out and we go to Jamie and Eddie with their entire precinct in the meeting room. Their chief walks to the pulpit and says, "We are now at Death Con 2. We believe these gangsters' threats are very credible. I want you all to keep a sharp eye out there. This city may be turned into a war zone if we don't stop these guys now. I am sending all of you to the most popular parks and school zones in our district. Stay alert and if you see any suspicious activity, you radio for backup right away. We believe these men may still be in possession of high caliber rifles, grenades and an RPG. Dismissed."
Jamie and Eddie head to their car and Eddie says as they climb in, "I can't believe we're still hunting these guys down. I mean, we had them all locked up and now their running around with guns and pretty much a whole army."
Jamie shakes his head says, "It's a crazy world, Eddie."
Eddie, with a hint of a temper, says, "You know whose fault this is, right?"
Jamie, with interest, asks, "Whose?"
Eddie replies with anger, "Moroni Harris."
Jamie exhales with frustration and says, "Come on, Eddie. Not you, too."
Eddie, with more rage, says, "No, you come on, Jamie. The moment he showed up, all these things started happening. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the new car and new armor, but at what price? We've been shot at more in this past week than an entire year. Your dad needs to investigate Moroni Harris to see if he's behind all this. I find it too coincidental that all this happens shortly after Moroni's good deeds."
Jamie as calmly as he can says, "I just think he is trying to do the right thing. Yes, things look grim now, but once everything is said and done, things will get better."
Eddie becomes more frustrated and says, "But at what cost? How many of us have to get injured or die before it gets better? We lost three more officers again today, Jamie. How much more cop blood needs to be spilt before things get better?"
End of Scene
We then open with Jamie and Eddie walking through a park. The clock reads 2:00pm and Jamie says, "Alright, Eddie. Time to keep a sharp eye for anything unusual."
Eddie and Jamie walk around some more before they see twelve gang members walking up to the park with great haste. Eddie radioes in with calmness, "Dispatch, we got twelve men wearing gang colors and gang ink heading to the park with great speed."
One of the gang members pulls out a gun and Jamie shoots him as Eddie shouts into the radio, "Gun! Gun! Send back up!"
The other gang members draw their guns and start firing at Jamie and Eddie. Eddie pulls out her gun and she and Jamie return fire. Two more gang members drop and the others take cover. Jamie and Eddie take cover as well. People in the park start to panic as they run around. Jamie and Eddie continue to firefight with the gang members. One of them shouts, "Give up, pigs! There are ten of us and only two of you!"
Eddie shoots the gang member that was shouting and drops him. Eddie shouts with pride, "Nine of you now."
Jamie hits one in the shoulder and Eddie hits another one in the leg as he sticks it out. Jamie gets hit in the chest and Eddie shouts, "Jamie!" She continues to fire until her clip is empty. She realizes she is out of ammo and rushes to Jamie.
Jamie grunts in pain and says to Eddie "I'm fine. I'm fine. Take my ammo and keep firing."
Eddie puts in Jamie's clip and stands up and shoots one in between the eyes as he pops his head up. The gang members advance when they see Eddie runs out of rounds. Two of them point their guns at Jamie and Eddie's heads and one of them says, "Time to die, little piggies."
Just before they can pull the trigger, they get shot in the chest and drop. The other gang members are shot and killed before they can react.
Sergeant Anthony Renzulli rushes over to Jamie and Eddie with four other cops and says, "You alright, kid?"
Jamie smiles and says, "Yeah, just a bruised rib."
Renzulli smiles a little and says, "Looks like we got here just in time to save you two love birds. Come on. Let's get you to the hospital to get checked out."
We then go to Frank's office where we see Frank and Sid going over files from testimonies. Garrett comes in and says, "Four parks were hit at 2:00 like they threatened. About thirty gang members were killed, twenty hospitalized and seven cops injured. One of them being your son Jamie."
Frank putting down his glasses and asks with worry, "Is he alright?"
Garrett smiles and joyfully says, "Bullet hit his vest. Only bruised his ribs. Doctor says he's fit to return to duty."
Frank breathes a sigh of relief and says, "Well, that's good."
Garrett see the files and asks, "Any luck with witness statements?"
Sid, with annoyance, replies, "Don't ask."
Garrett sits on the couch and asks, "That bad, huh?"
Frank puts back on his glasses and says, "All of this would be great in the court of law to help insure they stay behind bars. None of the statements so far gives us a clue to where they are or what they might do next."
Sid, while holding and looking at a piece of paper, says "Hold the phone, boss. I just found a witness statement of a woman saying that she heard the King's leader say and I quote, 'He thinks he can disrespect me in front of my boys and neighborhood, he's got another thing coming. No one disrespects me and lives to tell the tale.' And this was after he hung up the phone to gather the other leaders together."
Garrett becomes confused and says, "And that's important how?"
Sid puts down the paper and says, "So, why would he one minute want to kill Moroni, then when he gets the chance only threatens him?"
Garrett shrugs his shoulders and says, "Maybe he changed his mind at the last moment."
Sid shakes his finger and says, "Guys like him don't change their minds. They want to set an example and show fear. If he wanted to kill Moroni, the night he jumped him was the chance. Why would he risk going to jail by leaving one witness? According to his file, he leaves no witnesses alive. So why did he leave one alive this time?"
Garrett realizes what Sid is saying and says, "Because he wanted all of this to happen. He wanted to create a gang war with the police to try to take over the city. All the gangs now follow his banner."
Sid replies with pride, "Bingo!"
Frank then realizes what Sid is saying and thinks out loud, "Or he's just a puppet under some else's thumb."
Sid becomes confused and asks, "Boss?"
Frank calmly says, "Hear me out. From all these files we know the five leaders sell drugs, steal from shops, as well as steal from the elderly. That is how they make all their money. They also used six shooters and lower caliber guns. So, how did they all the sudden have the means to get better weapons, the money they needed to put a hit on our officers and send an internet based death threat? These guys are not tech savvy, but they know how to hide from us to announce a city wide threat. To me, it sounds like someone with deep pockets and high resources is pulling the strings by giving these dangerous men weapons and money."
Garrett replies with a little hesitation, "Someone like Moroni Harris?"
Frank shakes his head and with confidence says, "It's not him."
Garrett sighs and says, "I know, but it sounds like someone is going through a lot of trouble to frame him. Does he have any enemies that we know about?"
Sid points his finger at Garrett and says, "Now you're starting to think like a detective. I'll search into Moroni Harris' background, boss. See if someone with deep pockets stands out."
Abigail walks in as Sid walks out. Abigail calmly says, "Sir, your daughter is here and she has something you need to see."
Erin walks in and Frank asks with worry, "Are you okay?"
Erin sighs with worry and says, "I'm fine, but you need to see this."
Erin pulls out a tablet and plays a video of the True Order. The leader scowls into the camera with anger and says, "You cops may have stopped us once, but you will not stop us this time. We are going to give anyone one million dollars to whoever gives us the whereabouts of Moroni Harris. We will also detonate 37 grenades that we have spread all across the city by midnight if Moroni is not delivered to us!"
Erin stops the video and says, "There's more you should know. Moroni asked me over to his safe house with some documents. He made out his Last Will and Testament with me just 30 minutes ago."
Garrett became confused and asked, "Why would he do that?"
Frank nods in understanding and says, "He's turning himself in." Frank stands and says to Abigail, "Make sure Moroni doesn't leave his safe house. Tell his protective detail that he is planning on escaping and turning himself in."
Abigail quickly says, "Right away, sir."
Frank stops Abigail from leaving by saying, "Also tell them that I'll be down there in a moment."
Erin looks her dad in the eyes and says, "That isn't a good idea, Dad. You could be being watched right now. Everyone knows you and Moroni are good friends. They might have someone watching you, waiting for you to lead them to him."
Frank kisses Erin on the forehead and calmly says, "You stay here where it's safe. What I have to say to Moroni has to be said in person. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
We then go to Frank and Moroni sitting in the safe house. Frank looks at Moroni with great concern. Moroni doesn't have the courage to look him in the eyes. Frank sighs and asks, "Why did you have your Will made out?"
Moroni continues to stare at the ground and says, "Frank, you know what needs to be done. I have to turn myself in."
Frank replies as calmly as he can, "For what purpose?"
Moroni looks Frank in the eyes with tears starting to pour and says, "To save your city from becoming a war zone. I won't have a war break out on the country that I swore to protect. I have seen too much death and too much suffering. But most importantly, I can't risk your family and your city getting hurt or worse because of me. They want me, and all of this will end."
Frank's lip quivers slightly as he replies, "You do this and they will kill you. What would that do to your family and friends?"
Moroni looks back at the ground and says, "They'll understand."
Frank sighs and says, "Really. Because your wife disagrees. She made me promise that I would bring you back to her in one piece. If you do this, I'd be breaking that promise."
Moroni looks Frank in the eyes once again and pleads, "What can I do, Frank? I just can't sit here and have this whole city risk their lives for me."
Frank stands proudly and says, "You risked your life to protect this country. You risked your life to protect this city and help keep it safe. Now it's our turn to protect you. Stay with your protective detail and I'll take care of the punks that are doing this."
This scene fades out and we go to Danny and Baez in their office. Danny hangs up the phone with a smile on his face. Baez hangs up her phone and asks, "What you smiling about?"
Danny's smile grows and he says, "Great news, partner. I discovered where the convoy went after Cuba."
Baez replies with excitement, "Really?"
Danny nods and says, "Really. I had a guy look for anything unusually out of place during the time of the convoy disappearance. Turns out he remembers this funny smell of gunpowder in some of the crates that were shipped to Florida that were marked as fruit. He figured that the crates carried guns before they carried fruit, but it didn't sit right with him after all these years. He sent me where these funny smelling packages were shipped to. From there, I tracked that the crates were then shipped to a laboratory where a weapon's developer makes high end weapons for our military."
Baez smiles as well and says, "That's great."
Danny grabs his jacket and says, "Yep. Now all we have to do is call the Police Department in Washington, asking them to bring him here so we can question him."
Baez nods and joyfully says, "Sounds good. Looks like we're finally going to get to the bottom of this." A sound starts to buzz and gets louder and louder. Baez looks around and asks, "What's that sound?"
Danny recognizes the sound and shouts, "RPG! Everyone down!"
All the cops drop down and the back wall of the building bursts, sending brick everywhere. Gang members start rushing in and start shooting the policemen. Danny and Baez get up and start returning fire.
End of Scene
We open with Danny and Baez looking over everything that got destroyed during the fight. Wounded policemen are wheeled away and the coroners place tarps over the dead. Danny shakes his head and says with rage, "In our house. They attacked us in our own house!"
Baez stands up and calmly says, "Just be grateful that none of our men were killed. And we got the RPG and one of the high caliber rifles. It could have been worse. A lot worse."
Danny's phone rings and he answers it. Frank is on the other end and asks, "Are you alright?"
Danny takes a breath to calm his racing heart and says, "Yeah, yeah I'm okay, Dad."
Frank joyfully says, "Good. How many hurt?"
Danny replies with regret, "Twelve. One is lucky to be alive."
Frank then asks, "How many gangbangers killed?"
Danny thinks for a moment and says, "Last count was twenty."
Frank softly asks, "Any leads?"
Danny replies, "One, but I lost the address and info during the fight. The tech guys are trying to recover the data. Hopefully they can."
One of the technicians shouts, "Danny, you need to see this!"
Danny quickly says, "Hold on, Dad." Danny, putting the phone on his shoulder, walks over to the technician where she is in the office of the sergeant. Danny calmly asks, "What do you got?"
The technician replies, "You see this?" She points to a flash drive attached to the computer and continues, "This is a USB with a wireless connector. Someone hacked our database and stole some of our files. Do you know what that means?"
Danny, realizing what she was saying, replies, "It means that this whole attack was a smoke screen so they could break in and steal our files." Danny takes a deep breath to calm himself and asks, "What did they take?"
The technician replies after typing on the computer, "Only one file that I know of at this point in time. The file was our witness protection info. The only name they copied was Moroni Harris." The technician then turns to Danny and say, "Danny, they know where Moroni is."
Danny's eyes widen and he picks up his cellphone and asks, "Dad, did you hear that."
Frank replies with regret, "Yes. Get to Moroni as soon as you can. I'll call his detail and have them move him right away."
Danny nods and says, "I'm on my way." Danny hangs up the phone, turns to Baez and says, "Baez! Get your vest on and make sure you have plenty of clips! Moroni is in danger and I have a feeling we're going to get into another firefight before the night is over!"
Danny and Baez get into their car and start to head to Moroni's safe house. Two black vans cut them off and force them to stop. Gang members start to pour out of the vans and start firing at the police car. Danny and Baez fire back. Once all the men are down, Danny and Baez climb out of their car. Danny sees that the engine has been hit and that it can't go anywhere. He calls in for another vehicle. Then he calls Frank and informs him what happened.
We then go to Moroni's safe house. Three of the officers help Moroni pack as one of them checks the hallway. When they finish, they rush out the door and head down to the streets. As they put Moroni in the car, one of the officers gets hit in the shoulder by a bullet. The other officers see the gangbangers enclosing on them and start firing back. Moroni gets out of the car and tends to the injured shoulder of the officer.
Another officer drops, being hit by a shotgun. Moroni pulls the gun from the injured officer's belt and starts returning fire on the gangbangers. One of the officers shouts while firing, "Moroni, run! Get out of here! We'll be fine! Just get out of here! Take the gun with you!" Moroni grabs his cane and starts to limp away.
We then go to Frank's office where Abigail rushes in and says, "The officers never made it to the second safe house location. There have been reports of active shooters in the area of Moroni's first safe house. We are trying to send men to the location, but they keep getting blocked off by other gang members. It's also almost midnight and we've only found 20 of those grenades."
Frank starts to panic a little, but calms himself and says, "I know. Send out as many as you can spare to Moroni's last location. I will not allow these men to kill him. Not now."
Abigail replies with hesitation, "We've been spread pretty thin because of the resent attacks, but I'll see what I can do."
Sid comes into the room and says, "Bad news, boss. Explosions just went off, blocking an entire block."
Frank turns to Sid and asks, "Where?"
Sid, with worry, says, "Near Moroni's last location. The whole block has been shut down and has become a war zone. Our guys are trying to get in but we believe that there is about 200 gangbangers in that neighborhood."
We then see Moroni limping and hiding in an alleyway, his shoulders and left leg covered in blood. A gang member comes into the alley and Moroni shoots him before he can pull the trigger. Moroni notices that his gun is empty and he takes the gun from the gangster. A police car pulls up and one of the officers in the car shouts, "Moroni, this way! Head this way!" Moroni begins to limp to the car. The officer in the passenger seat rushes over to Moroni and helps him get to the car. As soon as they get near the car, the officer is shot and goes down. Moroni drops to the ground with the officer and tries to help her. The officer in the driver seat gets out and starts shooting the gangsters shooting at his partner and Moroni.
While the officer is covering Moroni, Moroni reaches into the car and pulls out a first-aid kit. He pulls out the gauze and puts pressure on the officer's wound and dresses it. He then reaches for the radio and radios in, "Officer down! Officer down! Need back up!"
A bullet hits Moroni in the side and Moroni grabs the gun he took from the last gang member he killed and returns fire. He kills the gangster that shot at him. The other officer goes down and Moroni stands and returns fire until the other gang members are killed. He limps over to the officer and starts to tend to his wounds.
Another car filled with gangsters pulls up. Moroni drags both officers to an alley and gets ready to leave. The male officer grabs him and says with authority, "Don't go out there. They'll kill you."
Moroni nods and calmly says, "They are after me, not you. I can lead them away from you until help arrives." Moroni leaves the alley and fires at the gangsters. The officer sees Moroni get hit four more times but Moroni continues to fire back. The officer radios in his location and informs that Moroni has been hit and is not looking good.
End of Scene
We open in Frank's office. His office is covered with police radios and a large map. Every time an officer reports a location on Moroni, Abigail marks the map with a pin to track his route and location. Sid, near tears, says, "Boss, that is another hit that Moroni has taken defending our officers. I count 33 shots already. I'm… I'm not sure he's going make it."
Frank, also near tears, replies "He's still moving. We have to hope one of our men can get him out of there."
We then go to Moroni leaning against a dumpster covered in blood. He starts to breathe slower and slower. A gangster runs by, runs back and shouts, "I found him!"
Moroni shoots the guy and five more men come to the alley and fire blindly. Moroni shoots them all until his gun is empty. He slowly gets up, realizing this location is no longer safe and picks off two more guns from the dead gangsters. He uses the wall for support as he limps down the street. Another cop car pulls up and reports on the radio, "We've found him." And gives the current location. The officers get out of their car and help Moroni get to the back seat. They climb in and start to drive away saying that they got Moroni and are heading to the hospital.
As soon as they get a block away, their car is T-boned by a large black van. Gangsters climb out of the van and start shooting at the armored vehicle. The officers radio in, "We've been hit and are taking heavy fire." They see one of the gangsters pull the pin to a grenade and shout, "Grenade!"
They pull Moroni out of the car and start running from the car as fast as they can. As they run, they get shot in the back. Moroni gets hit three more times. The grenade explodes and destroys the police car. The officers turn around and start returning fire on the gangsters after the explosion blinds the gangsters. Moroni slowly turns and returns fire as well. The officers are shot in the leg and drop to the ground.
Moroni shoots the last shooter and tends to the officers wounds before he starts limping away again. The officers report back on their radios. Telling the others what happened and where Moroni was heading.
We then see Sid panicking as he asks, "How? How do they know where Moroni is? Every time we get a report on Moroni's location, the bad guys show up and take down our officers and put more bullets in Moroni."
Frank, now realizing what was happening, says, "Cut off all communication using radios."
Sid became confused and asks, "Boss?"
Frank replies with desperation, "Cut off all communications with radios now! They are listening in and tracking Moroni's location just like we are."
Sid grabs the radio and says, "Cut off all communications on police radios now! The enemies are listening in!"
Frank grabs his cellphone and calls Jamie, "Where you at?"
Jamie replies with calmness, "We are five minutes away from Moroni's last location. We were heading that way when we got the news on the radio."
Frank pleads to Jamie, "Get to him. Get to him as soon as you can. Stay radio silent."
Jamie nods and says "Roger that."
We then go to Moroni who is now crawling in the streets. He coughs up some blood before he continues on. A black van pulls behind him and the ten men he testified against come out. The leader smiles and kicks Moroni to his back. The leader says with pride, "Not so tough now are you, rich man. The streets are more dangerous than you thought, huh? Oh, the look on your face was worth all of this." He kicks Moroni in the ribs and Moroni spits up more blood. The leader pulls out his gun, places it on Moroni's head and whispers in Moroni's ear, "This is what happens to rich men that try to take control of my city."
The leader then gasps for air before he can pull the trigger. Moroni grabs the gun and shoots the other men before they have time to react. He rolls the leader off him and we see a small hunting knife in the leader's chest between two rib bones.
Another van pulls up and Moroni reloads the gun with the clip in the leader's belt. He starts shooting the men that come out of the van. The men return fire and hit Moroni three more times before he is able to take them all out. Moroni slowly rolls over and starts to crawl away, spitting out more blood. Two more vans pull up and men pour out of them and take aim at Moroni who has stopped crawling and is laying down.
Jamie and Eddie pull up and start shooting the men before they can shoot Moroni. They turn and start shooting back at Eddie and Jamie. Eddie and Jamie shoot all the men, then rush to Moroni. Jamie rolls Moroni over and sees he's still breathing. He calls his dad and says, "We've got Moroni. He's breathing but he looks pretty bad, Dad. It looks like he's-" Eddie gets shot in the neck by another gang member that rolls up. Jamie starts shooting back. Moroni rolls over, kneels, rips Eddie's pant leg and uses the cloth to put pressure on her neck. He uses what he can to do a quick treatment to slow the bleeding.
As soon as Jamie takes out the shooters, another vehicle rolls up and the men inside shoot Moroni four more times in the chest. Moroni finally falls to his back and starts to breathe very slowly. Each breath lets out blood and air bubbles. Jamie gets hit in the leg. He turns and shoots the last three shooters. After a minute of silence, Jamie reaches for his phone and says, "Dad! Dad, Eddie's down! I repeat! Eddie is down! Shot in the neck! Moroni is still breathing but I think he's a goner! Dad! Dad, can you hear me!? Can anyone hear me!? I repeat! Officer down! Officer down!"
