Family Matters

Chapter 20

"I heard about you no longer doing treatment and i wanted to check in and see how you were holding up." Nathan admitted.

Jamie narrowed his gaze at his father. "Figures this is a pity visit. Eventually you won't need to stop by at all. I'm surprised you showed you're face here at all. Given our last encounter and how great that went. Mom isn't here so there is no need for you to pretend to care about me. You got you're do over with Mathew and Marcia. Even better Renee isn't in the picture which should make things alot easier you don't have to waste time lying to her or breaking her heart like you did to my momther. Just leave Nathan. I don't want or need you're company." Jamie said.

"Is that what this is about Mathew and Marcia. You're real issue with me. Are you jealous of them or something.?" Nathan asked.

Jamie's eyes went wide. "You don't get it. When mom kicked out and the two of you got divorced you forgot i even existed! You went from being my hero to becoming a stranger. Mathew and Marcia are lucky. They may not actually be you're kids but they get a father when all i have left is memories of the family i used to have."

Nathan's face softened. "I didn't forget you existed at all. After everything i put you and you're mom through. I was ashamed, humilated, and figured the both of you were better off without me. I never stopped loving you or her. It's not as cut and dry as you think. I made more mistakes then i can keep up with. I kept my distance because i knew me being around would just hurt you and her." He said.

"Mistakes, flawed and all. In time i would of forgiven you. You were my dad. I loved you and it seemed like none of that mattered anymore. I was in the hospital getting chemo and you never visited. I needed you then too." Jamie confessed.

"I was there in the hallway i never wanted to get in the way. I'm sorry my boy. For everything i've done wrong all the time i wasted." Nathan said.
