Chapter 11: Maybe One Day
Hiii lovliess!!! Sorry it's been over a week but here is a new chapter. (We're finally digging into Jays past a bit more!) Anyways, Enjoy!
(P.S This chapter does contain PTSD talk, not much but it does mention it, so if that kind of thing triggers you, feel free to skip)
"Bullshit" Jay spat. His father, who made his life a living hell, wanted his help.
"Jay, he is in trouble with the law and-"
"No! Erin, you don't understand. My father was a horrible, horrible man. I don't care if he's in trouble with Jesus, it's not my problem."
"He showed up at the apartment looking for you."
"Erin, I don't care."
"Okay."
After a few minutes of awkward silence, Erin's phone rang.
"Teddy, hey- we'll be there in 10 minutes!"
"What? What's wrong?" Jay asked when he saw Erin scramble out of her hospital bed.
"Teddys surrogate is about to have our nieces or nephews!"
Jays couldn't help but smile at Erin's huge smile. Hanks condition was still unknown and his father was back, he knew things were going to get messy. But that didn't matter. Not when Erin was still smiling and he was about to become an uncle.
"We're going to be an aunt and an uncle?! Her cousins!?" Jay smiled, pointing at Lindsays bump.
"Not standing here we're not." Erin snarked.
"Should we tell Will? Get your discharge papers?"
"I'm still in the hospital, dingbat." Erin rolled her eyes and left the hospital room, Jay hot on his heels after her.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Erin and Jay are about to become an aunt and uncle." Hailey smiled, informing the team, just having getting off the phone with Erin.
They were all back in the bullpen, waiting on news from their two teammates still in hospital. Them all thankful that Erin and their niece were okay, but nervous that there was still no news on their Sargent.
Aws and yays were heard from the team, but were soon interrupted by another phone ringing.
"Will" Adam sighed to the bullpen, as he looked at the caller ID. "Dr Halstead, everything okay?"
Everyone in the bullpen were chewing their nails with nerves, but relaxed when Adams face broke into a smile.
"Sarge woke up. Everything is looking good." Adam smiled, after he thanked Will and put his phone down.
"Really?" Kim asked. 24 hours ago, they were unsure if he'd wake up.
"Yep, they're just performing some neurological exams, but all is looking well."
"Well, lets go see Jesus." Al smirked.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Hanks okay." Erin breathed a sigh of relief as the walked up the stairs to see Teddy, Mateo and hopefully the twins soon. Luckily they didn't change Erin into one of those disgusting hopital gowns, otherwise she'd have nothing clean to change into and she didn't want to worry her baby brother anymore.
"You wanna go see him?" Jay asked, as they held hands stepping onto the labour and delivery floor.
"Al said he's fine so far. They still have tests to run so we'll know more later." Erin sighed, running a hand through her hair. "He knows were up here, told us not to come down till the twins are here. I swear when we find the sons of bit-"
"Hey." Jay stopped, and turned Erin to face him. "This is a happy day. We have a whole lot of happy days ahead." Though to be honest, he was trying to convince himself of that too, with his dad suddenly being back he knew something bad was bound to happen.
Erin just nodded. She felt tears brimming in her eyes, as one sneaked last her lid, and down her cheek. These hormones were going to be the death of her.
"Hey none of that." Jay softly wiped her tear away with his thumb. "You're about to become an aunt."
"I feel old now."
"Old but hot." Jay smirked, as they continued to walk. "Ouch!"
xxxxxxxxxx
"So what do we even know about this gang we were after?" Antonio asked.
The team, minus Hank, Erin and Jay of course, were in the bullpen trying to find anything to try figure out what happened. What went wrong yesterday that nearly cost their Sargent his life.
"West Side Serpents. Notorious street gang that deals over on the south side. Apparently they were having a major shipment of bad dope." Hailey said.
"Hence why we were there." Adam continued, mimicking with his hands.
"Have they claimed anything? I mean talking a cop out like that? Would really move them up in the game." Al asked.
"Nothing." Kim sighed, flicking through her computer, trying to find anything online that could be even remotely useful. But nothing.
"Start by looking through his enemies then." Dawson said, receiving a laugh from Alvin.
"Something funny Al?" Antonio asked, annoyance vivid in his voice.
"Kid, if we were to spend time looking through Hank Voights enemies we would be here longer than it takes Ruzek to finish a game in Mario Kart."
"Hey!" Ruzek pouted. "That game is hard Alvin."
"Well then let's get to work."
xxxxxxxxxx
"Can you believe in 19 weeks it'll be our turn?" Erin asked, as they say outside in the waiting room. Today was her 21 week mark, and to say she was petrified, was an understatement. Now that Teddy was having his kids, it was her and Jay next. No backing out.
"Nope" Jay sighed. Erin noticed he was zoned out, he didn't seem happy like he was a few hours ago. Suddenly a phone rang.
"Jay this is like the 20th time your phone has rang in the last hour. Answer it." Erin sighed, turning to look at her boyfriend.
But before Jay could answer, the hospital doors opened. The nurse they had met earlier, Sadie, who had been helping with the birth, came out and went over to Jay and Erin.
"I think there are two little people who'd like to meet you's." Sadie smiled, winking at the couple before walking off.
"Wow only—" Erin checked her watch. "3 hours. Swear my birth better be that short." She laughed, walking through the double doors, stopping dead in his tracks when his phone rang again. Making sure Erin was through the doors, he answered it.
"Dad. I do not care about any bullshit you've to say. Ring this number again or come anywhere near me, my girlfriend or child I will kill you." And with that, hung up his phone. He was not dealing with his fathers bullshit again.
"Jay come onnn!" Erin whined, opening the doors.
"Coming." Jay said, stuffing his phone in his back pocket." He'll deal with this later.
xxxxxxxxxx
"So we have nothing?" Kevin asked, plopping on his seat.
They were still researching the West Side Serpents ans still getting nowhere.
"I'll have admit myself, Voight having no connection or a CI or someone he can pinch in a gang on his soil. It's rare." Al spoke. Other than Erin, Al knew Hank the best in the team and Hank had no connection to this gang. They were a gang that just showed up out of the blue.
"This gang as only been on the CPD gang units watch for 3 years." Mouse spoke up.
"And Boss was in the gang unit, what? 5, 6 years ago?" Adam asked. Al and Tony nodding. "Plus these guys are rich. They roll with rich people. I mean posh, rich, high uppers."
"Maybe our best bet is to go see him again? I mean Halstead ans Lindsay are down there too, they might have an input." Hailey suggested.
Tony nodded. "Well let's go."
xxxxxxxxxx
"They're so beautiful T." Erin smiled, tears filling her eyes.
She was currently holding their nephew, Jay holding their niece. 1 girl, 1 boy. Perfect.
"3 cousins! Our ones never going to be bored." Jay laughed, refereeing to the twins, and Will and Nats son, Owen, who they viewed as a nephew just as much they did Teddys kids, a niece and nephew.
"I can't believe my baby brother has babies." Erin smiled, letting the tears fall from her eyes.
"I wouldn't of been able to do this without ya, sis." Teddy smiled.
Erin put her nephew down, enveloping her brother in a hug.
One of Erin's biggest regrets in life was losing touch with her brother when they were kids. It kept her up at night, thinking about how she could of done more for Teddy.
"You wanna know their names?" Mateo asked, after Teddy and Erin broke from hug.
Jay and Erin nodded eagerly, Jay passing his niece to Erin, picking up his nephew, the two couples sitting across from each other.
"Well our little lady is named Lily." Teddy smiled. Erin and Jays hearts both just melting.
"Hi Lily-Loo! I love you, yes I do." Erin cooed at her niece.
"And that is Logan." Mateo smiled, nodding his head towards the sleeping baby in Jays hands.
"They're beautiful names." Jay smiled at his brother-in-laws.
"They're something else we've to tell you-" Teddy started.
"And ask you." Mateo added.
"Go ahead." Erin said, glancing up for a millisecond before engrossing her attention back to Lily, who's big brown eyes haven't left her face once.
"Well you two are essentially the only family the kids are." Teddy started.
Jay and Erin nodded. Obviously Teddy's mom wasn't around, but his dad not so much either anymore. Also they knew Mateos parents both died when he was younger, and he had no siblings.
"And we were wondering if you'd like to be Godparents?" Mateo shyly asked.
"Oh my God, we'd loved to be." Erin smiled, not resisting the urge to kiss her now sleeping niece.
"Honoured. Thank yous." Jay nodding his appreciation.
"Great." Teddy sighed a breathe of relief. "With that, we should probable tell you's their full names."
Erin and Jay looked back from him and Mateo, confused.
"Logan Jay and Lily Erin." Mateo smiled, indicating towards his kids, Lily still in Erin's arms, Logan in Jays.
"Wow. Seriously this means so much to us. Thank yous." Erin smiled.
God, was she blessed.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Knock, Knock." Jay said softly. She and Jay had asked to take the twins to see Hank. Teddy and Mateo agreeing instantly so they could catch a shower and something to eat without the twins needing them.
"Hank." Erins voice broke. The whole team was there, them obviously interrupting some sort of questioning regarding the incident, as Antonio and Kim had their notebooks out.
"Baby looks good on you kid. Both of yous." Hank winked. They were both holding one of the twins, everyone coming one cooeing and taking hold of the babies tiny fingers.
"What are their names?" Hailey asked.
"Lily and Logan." Jay replied proudly. He was taking this uncle/godfather role seriously.
"Here." Erin smiled, letting Burgess hold Lily.
As Jay continued to tell the team all about Lily and Logan, like Lily always wanting to be awake, while Logan would rather stay asleep in someone's arms, Erin went up to sit at Hanks bed.
"Congratulations." Hank smiled.
"How are you feeling?" She asked, taking his IV free hand in hers.
"Like I got shot."
"You're hilarious."
"Sargent Voight- oh hi guys!" A cheerful Will Halstead suddenly came around into the room. "Why is my brother and Burgess holding a baby? Lindsay did you pop already?"
Erin turned around, bump still visible. Sometimes she wondered how Will managed to become a doctor.
"They're Teddys, you idiot." Jay rolled his eyes.
"Ohhh yeah right! Congratulations!" He squeezed Erins arm as he checked Hanks Vitals. "So Lindsay, twins run in the family I see." Will joked, Erin returning an eye roll. "Well everything is looking great Sargent."
"Good. Can I leave now."
"No."
"Why?"
"I'm the Doc, you're the patient."
"Sorry to break up your little banter." Antonio rolled his eyes. "But we gotta get back to the station Sarge, try find anything on the West Side Serpents-"
"What did you say?" Will asked, dropping the stethoscope he was currently using to listen to Hanks breathing.
"West Side Serpents. They're the gang who did this." Hailey said, pointing towards Voight.
"Jay I need to talk to you." Will said, all seriously.
"What? Why?" Jay asked, as he played with Logan on his lap.
"Jay, please." Will muttered.
When Jay made no indication that he was going to move, instead engrossing himself into playing with Logan, Will decided to shut the door and have this private conversation with intelligence.
"Will what are you-" Jay started.
"You know dads back?" Will sighed.
"Yeah he showed up at my apartment, to my pregnant girlfriend who was home alone Will. Know anything about that?" Jay hissed.
"Okay Halstead, I'm not an invalid." Erin defended.
"If you're a woman around my father, trust me you're a whole lot worse." Jay fired, looking straight into Wills eyes, purposely trying to piss him off.
"Jay." Will whispered.
"What?" Jay was starting to get irritated by his brother.
"You were in that warehouse, right?" Will asked, sounding as if he was scared to find out the answer.
"Well obviously." Jay replied sarcastically. He was the one who literally brought Hank in.
"Oh God." Will sighed, putting his head into his hands.
"What?" Adam asked.
"Jay. This is bad." Will shook his head. Ignoring the weird and confused looks from his friends.
"That was the gang dad got mixed up into. Dad lost his job, went into bankruptcy. Fell in with narcotics and now he's in dept, some man..." Will tried to remember the rest.
"Benny Jakob?" Antonio asked. Benny Jakob was the leader of this gang.
"Yes! That's it! He threatened dad Jay. I told him to come to you, that you could put an end to it. But he refused, said he ruined your life Jay. But that's why I gave him your address. He wanted to tell you Benny threatened his life. His families lives. Multiple times. And I'm sure you can imagine what it was like when he found out his son was a cop." Wills sighed, sitting down. This was all making sense now.
"So Jay was the target? Not Sarge?" Kim asked.
Will just shrugged his shoulders. "Jay listen just please talk to dad." He then turned to the rest of the unit. "And please let another unit take this over and make sure they get him. Don't need anymore of yous nearly dying." And with that his pager went off and he left.
"Jay-" Erin said, as she bounced a grumpy Lily up and down.
"Erin take the twins back upstairs." Jay said.
"Here I'll go with you." Hailey smiled, walking over to Jay and taking Logan out of his hands.
"I'll come to.' Kim offered, knowing Erin needed as much support as she could get.
"Jay-"
"Erin. Please." He sighed, handing Upton the baby.
She just nodded and followed Hailey and Kim upstairs.
"Do you's mind giving us a minute." Jay asked the rest of the team, wanting a minute alone to talk to Hank.
The team all nodded, understanding this was a lot for the both of them.
"We should get back to the district any-" Antonio began.
"Tony, please leave my father out of this. Just until I know what the hell is going on."
Antonio nodded and patted Jays back.
When everyone had left, the two men turned to look at each other.
"Sarge, I had no idea. I am so s-"
"Save your apologies Halstead. Let the team get this prick. I'll make sure your dad gets sorted. But you're off this case." Hank made very clear.
"But Voight-" Jay began to moan.
"Halstead. These people are out to get you. They've already failed once and I'm sure they're pissed. Now I didn't know what you're trying to prove here I'm certainly not going to let you get yourself killed while doing it. You have two girls to look after. Erin and this kid need you Jay. I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. Don't throw this away over this."
Jay let his Sargents words sink in. He was right. He had two girls who needed him. How could he even think he wanted in on this case? What would of happened if something did happen to him? He would of left Erin, alone, to raise their daughter. He was wasn't that type of man.
"You're right."
"Always am."
"Sarge, what did you mean when you said you'll make sure my dad gets sorted?"
"Don't worry about it."
"Sarge-"
"Go make sure Erin is okay."
Jay nodded. He left Hanks room and made his way up to labor and delivery. He didn't even know how to feel. That hit was for him. HIM. 'God I need a vodka.' He thought.
xxxxxxxxxx
"You doing okay?" Upton asked. Her and Erin were sat in the hospital room, both holding one twin, Kim sitting between them playing with both of their hands. Teddy and Mateo were still eating at the canteen, Erin reassuring them to take as much time as they wanted.
"I don't even know." Erin sighed rubbing her bump. "These past few weeks have been pffffff." She sighed, the women laughing.
"Jay will be okay." Hailey smiled, reaching over and giving her a reassuring squeeze on her shoulder.
"Yeah... I-I just don't know anything. Every time his father is meantioned it's like this amorphous thing." I'm completing in the dark and now that he's here, involved with a gang. I don't know how he'll take it."
"Erin, Jay loves you more than I have ever seen a man love a woman." Kim sighed. "He will always bounce back for you."
"I hope so."
xxxxxxxxxx
"Hey." Jay gently said as he entered the twins hostipal room, Erin was looking over the twins bassinets. The girls obviously having left.
"I want one." Erin smiled.
"You're getting one." Jay murmured, wrapping his arms around her frame and leaning his head on her shoulder so he could also see the twins.
"Sorry to ruin the moment." Teddy smiled. Erin and Jay turned around to see Teddy and Mateo, each holding a car seat.
"You guys bringing them home?" Jay asked.
"Yep." Mateo smiled.
"I'm going to miss them." Erin sighed as she picked up Logan, Jay picking up Lily.
"You can come over anytime to babysit." Teddy smiled.
Erin put Logan into the car seat with a blue blanket that Mateo was currently, Jay putting Lily in the one with the pink blanket Teddy was holding, placing a soft kiss on her head.
"But you live so far away." Erin sighed.
"C'mere." Teddy smiled, enveloping his sister in a hug. "I love you, so much Er. Thank you."
Erin released the hug. "Go, go before I make you live in the city!" She laughed, wiping her tears.
"We will definitely be up before this one comes." Teddy smiled, gently placing his hand on Erin's bump.
With another few hugs, kisses, goodbyes and well wishes, Mateo, Teddy, Lily and Logan were gone.
"C'mon, Will has your sign out sheet." Jay kissed her forehead and ruffled her hair.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Will? What are you-" Jay yawned, as he pulled the front door open to see his brother on the other side, stopping dead in his tracks when he saw who else was with him. "What the hell is he doing here!"
"Jay-" Will began but was interrupted.
"I thought I made it very clear that I never wanted to see you again, dad." Jay hissed.
"Where's Erin?" Will sighed, looking around, making his uninvited way into the apartment. "Dad come on."
"I never said he could come in." Jay spat as his father shyly made his way in.
"Where's Erin?" Will asked again.
"Well considering it's 1am. She's asleep." Jay answered dryly.
Though it was 1am, Jay was still up, just reliving the past few days. It was like whenever he had Erin got something good, life gave them two bad things.
"Why didn't you tell me I was getting a grandkid?" Jays dad asked, eyeing the countless beer bottles his son had recently drank, his eyes moving towards pictures he and Erin had hanging up their home. "They're all real beauties! Which one is she again?" He asked Jay, picking up a picture from the mantelpiece of Erin, Kim and Hailey that was taken in Molly's.
"The one in the middle." Erin yawned, standing at door of the bedroom, the three Halsteads obviously after waking her up.
"Ah! Hello. I don't think we've met properly." Jays father went over to shake her hand. "Charles Halstead. I'm very sorry for waking you up dear."
"Erin Lindsay." Erin shook his hand back. "No worries, this little bean has been keeping me up." She smiled.
"Erin its late, go back to bed." Jay told her. Not only did he not want Erin awake are this time, as she needed her sleep, he didn't want her to talk to his father. His father would say something inappropriate to upset him or her and Erin being Erin would bite his head off. She didn't care who you were. Irritate Erin Lindsay? Talk shit about someone she loved? Bye bye.
But before she could shout at him for telling her what to do, Will spoke.
"Here." Will came back from the kitchen. He had three beers and a glass of water. He placed them on the coffee table and sat next to his dad.
"What the hell is this!?" Jay puffed out and slowly sat down across from his brother and father, Erin joining him, putting her hand on his knee for support.
"I had no idea my son was married I would off sent something, Erin." Charles eyed Erin, completely ignoring Jay. "When we first met, I could of sworn you said you were my sons girlfriend." Charles said, sipping on his alcohol.
"Oh, we aren't married." She smiled, looking at Jay. 'Maybe one day.' She silently thought to herself, though would never admit it.
"What?" Charles stopped dead in his tracks, his bottle half way to his mouth.
"Dad, Erin ans Jay aren't married." Will clarified.
"Why?" Charles asked.
"Because dad. It's the 21st century and you don't have to be married to have a child." Jay spat.
"My son." Charles shook his head. "Always a disappointment."
"Hey! You don't speak to him like that." Erin shot back, her feisty personality still very alive at 1am.
"This is business, sweetheart, don't be getting your pretty face involved."
And there it was. Erin was officially pissed.
"What did you call me?" Erin shot back, rising from her seat.
"Dad-" Will warned, while Jay gently pulled Erin back down.
"You do not speak about her like that, understood?" Jay said a little louder than he would of liked.
"You should be grateful my son is going to provide for you and that." Charles hissed at her, looking at her bump.
Okay it was official, Charles just started ww3.
"Provide for me?" Erin laughed. "I provide for myself, thank you very much."
"Knitting scarfs won't get you far hon."
"I'm a detective, actually."
Jay looked over at Will. His dad has not changed one bit. He was living in the 1950's, still.
"Well done Jay. Get yourself a whore of a woman who thinks your her equal pffff." Charles laughed.
"DAD!" Both brothers shouted.
"You may be a guy, but you're still a bitch." Erin shot.
"No! It's ridiculous. You really want the mother of your kid running around with a machete?"
"I want Erin to do whatever she wants." Jay hissed, standing up, coming close to his dads face, his dad also standing. "Because I love and support her. I do not own her."
"You've been a wuss since the day you were born. And then instead of going to collage, like a man, to get a job that pays. You piss off to the army. You come back and cry that your life is hard and then become a cop pfff." Charles mocked his sons brave achievement. "You're mommy dies and this is how you refill that hole? Pathetic."
Jay froze. He knew his father thought low of him. But this low? He seriously thought he was dating Erin to fill that void of loosing his mother?
"Dad, Erin and Jays Sargent got you off on that drug charge. Took care of the gang. Nearly died because of you. So maybe treat them with a little more respect."
Erin looked to Jay. Very few times has she seen him look like this. Blank. Completely and utterly blank. The type of look he got when Terry died, or when Mouse got taken hostage. He was triggered. His father was triggering him. His past. She has dealt with a few of his violent nightmares and flashbacks. It's why they never go out on the 4th of July. She's even talked to Will and Mouse about it and knew the best thing was to act fast.
"Charles, I think it's best you go." She suggested.
"I don't care what you think, missy."
She wanted to fire back. Insult him for saying all those nasty things about her, about Jay. But now was not that time. Jay needed her.
"Will." She silently pleaded with her basically brother-in-law.
"Dad, it's late. Come crash with me and Nat." Will pleaded, understanding Erin.
"Igh, that widowed lady friend of yours with the loud child? No thanks."
Erin felt anger boil once again. Natalie was one of her bestfriends, and she was left widowed in the most heartbreaking way. And her son Owen, certainly was not annoying. Her and Jay treated Owen like a nephew, and they loved him so, so much, and Erin wouldn't stand for Charles treating him like he was less than.
"Well, I'll drop you at a hotel. Let's go." Will sighed.
"Screw the lot of yous!" Charles huffed and left the apartment.
"Jay." Will gently shook his brother, who had his head in his hands.
"Will, get out." He hissed, not lifting his head.
Will nodded understanding he's obviously overstayed his welcome and maybe shouldn't of tried to play family feuds this early in the morning.
"Sorry." Will gently murmured, pulling Erin into a side hug, kissing her hair softly, then simply turned, left the apartment and shut the door.
"I'm going to bed." Jay barely got out, but not before he picked up a beer bottle and chugged it in seconds.
"Jay." Erin disappointingly sighed. But Jay ignored her and went into their bedroom. Her picking up the rubbish, throwing it out, locking the door again and making her way into the bedroom, sighing when she saw Jay totally out, jeans still on and spread of their bed like a starfish. "He'll be okay." She said to herself, but wasn't too convinced.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Adam! There better be a good reason as to why you're calling me at 3 in the morning."
When Erin went to bed last night, she managed to move Jay over without waking him up. Since he was dead to the world she even managed to take his jeans off so he'd be more comfortable. But as soon as her head hit the pillow, she was out like a lightbulb.
"What? No, it's fine I'll be right there." Erin's heart dropped when Adam told her what was wrong.
She hopped out of bed, looking at herself in the mirror. Sweats, hoddie, uggs and a messy pigtail, they would do. She ran around the apartment, eventually finding her phone on the coffee table. She debated on who to call.
'Not Hank, of course.'
'Antonio and Al would probably be the best bet, but Jay would get in trouble.'
'The girls would be too focused on me, this is about Jay.'
'Can't disturb Kev, he needs to watch his siblings.'
She even considered calling one of the guys down at 51. They were all like brothers to her and Jay and care a lot about him. But then suddenly the perfect person came to mind. She dialled his number and tried to hide the lump in her throat.
"Mouse, hey. Im sorry for calling so early, I know it's your day off but um..." her voice cracked. "Jay, he um.. well Adam was on patrol on OT last night, and he pulled someone over an hour ago because they were swerving and it was um.. Jay. It was Jay." By this point she completely broke down. "Adam brought him to his house and I don't have my car because it's in the shop and I really need to get over there. Jays dad is back and I don't know, somethings wrong with Jay and I-I." Erin was out of breath and felt a panic attack come on when Mouse eventually spoke.
"Erin, I'll be there in 5." And with that hung up, Erin relaxing at the thought that Mouse could always get through to Jay and relate to Jay about his past.
xxxxxxxxxx
"So his dad is back?" Mouse asked. The two we're currently in the car, on the way to Adams.
"Yeah, definitely triggered something in Jay." Erin sighed, looking out the window of Mouses' car.
"PTSD. His dad always brought that back up for him." Mouse sighed.
"PTSD?"
"You did know Jay had that after he came home?"
"I guess I suspected it.. but I don't know we.. we-"
"Don't talk about it?" Mouse finished Erin's sentence, just as he stopped the car in the carpark at Adams apartment.
"Yeah." She sighed.
"He's always been like that. He doesn't talk about it." Mouse told her getting out of the car.
The two walked in silence, Mouse partially forcing her in the elevator as Adam lived on the top floor. After a few moments of silence in the elevator, Erin spoke.
"How bad does it get?" Mouse just turned to look at her. "I mean I've seen some nightmares, maybe getting involved too deep in cases. But I don't know this Jay. Leaving in the middle of the night. Getting drunk, I don't know."
The elevator door opened, and Mouse and Jay walked out. "Er." Mouse said, turning her to face him, putting his hands on her shoulders. "Jay loves you. He loves you. He has too much to lose, especially with a baby coming in 4 months. He's just going to need us all to hold onto him."
Erin nodded. "I just worry."
"I know. Now let's go get your man." He smiled, putting his arm around her shoulders, her leaning her head on his shoulder.
xxxxxxxxxx
"Are you comfy?"
"Erin, I'm fine." Jay huffed.
After picking him up from Adams, but not before a nice lecture from her, Adam and Mouse, she brought him home, thanking Adam for calling her rather then Al or Tony.
"Okay, I'll have to be in work in a few hours, but I need to leave early because I wanna stop by to see Hank before they release him, so I'll just tell Antonio you're not feeling well, okay?"
"Erin, I'm going to work."
"Jay, a few hours ago, if that wasn't Adam in that patrol car you would of got a DUI, I think you need a sick day."
Instead of telling her he was fine to go in, or that it was all a misunderstanding. He brought up the dreaded night before.
"I'm sorry about my father. He shouldn't of treated you like that."
"Jay."
"No, Erin I'm sorry. He's a dick and Voight shouldn't of gotten him off the hook." He shook his head. "It's just my dad brings up a lot of deep, deep stuff that I just don't have the time or energy to deal with. We have more important things to worry about." He placed his hand on her bump.
"Why didn't you tell me about your PTSD?"
"What?"
"Mouse told me. Jay if your dad being back is triggering something. Let me know. I want to and will help you."
"Babe, every solider is going to struggle at a point, that's normal." He tried to reassure her, and maybe eben himself. "And yeah my dad brings a lot of shit back, but that's the past. I'm ready to move on. My dad can piss off."
"Hey! Language!" Erin laughed. She had been very careful about who she was around. At 21 weeks, the baby could definitely start to pick up sounds, and with her spending the majority of her time around reckless males who's mother tongue was swearing, she had to be careful. Her baby girl's first word would not be piss.
"Sorry." He smiled.
"Right, lets get some more sleep, we can talk more in the morning." Erin suggested, cuddling into his side.
"I love you." He whisper in the darkness, but smiled when he felt Erin's soft breathing steady out into a deep slumber. "So god damn much."
Hope you all enjoyed this chapter! How cute are Erin and Jay with this twins!? Please review and leave any suggestions, because I love to hear what type of content you all like so I can try and give it to you in story form! But until next time,
