18. Family

"We're closed," the shop owner dismisses.

"Zulla?"

"I will be. Tomorrow—ah." Recognition. "The Sultan waits for no one."

"I'm after something, recently stolen." Unfortunately, the scavenging of her husband's abandoned hideout was thorough. "Do you—?"

"Doubtful. Turnover is high. I do good business."

"Gold pendant? Cresent-shaped? Engravings—"

"—along the edge?"

"You've seen it?"

"I have it. Surprised when it turned up. The one family heirloom that boy wouldn't sell me." Gold flashes, and the trader frowns. "You offer too much."

"Keep it." Forfeiting the coins, she palms the greater treasure. "We have everything we need."

A/N: Side note #1 - I think after awhile, Jasmine's anonymity would fade the more acquainted she became with the people of Agrabah and vise versa. Hence the immediate recognition regardless of a disguise.

Side note #2 - The pendant is meant to be a reference to the "Desert Moon" song both Aladdin and Jasmine learned from their mothers. But I imagine that once it started getting the wrong kind of attention, he would have stashed it instead of wearing it.
