The sun was setting, the birds were singing. All seemed well, for someone who didn't know any better.
They had lost so many people this morning, on both sides of the war. Almost every adult on the Miner's side were dead, leaving only the traumatized children to take care of.
Bellamy, sitting next to Murphy and Eban, glanced at Clarke, who was talking with Kane near the bonfire, Madi by her side. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but he knew without a doubt what - or rather, who - they were talking about.
He could see on their faces all the pain they felt. Everyone in the camp looked the same. Everyone had lost someone. A fighter. A brother. A sister. A lover. Children. No one had been spared.
"Let's start." claimed the voice of Octavia.
Everyone stood up and got near the bonfire, where the bodies were ready to be burned. Bellamy walked and went to stand next to Clarke, Madi and Kane. He took Clarke's hand in his, wanting to show her that he was there for her. She squeezed his hand tight and let a tear drop on her cheek, allowing herself to show her pain.
"Yu gonplei ste odon." Octavia said, lowering the torch.
"Yu gonplei ste odon." Everyone repeated all around.
Octavia looked at everyone around her. At her people. Grounders and Skaikru. Wonkru.
"In peace, may you leave this shore." She started, surprising everyone. "In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels, until our final journey to the ground… May we meet again." She finished, looking directly at Clarke who whispered back, like everyone:
"May we meet again."
--
Days have gone by. They were slowly trying to rebuild themselves. Life was surprisingly peaceful.
The bodies of the Miners had been burned too, Echo by their side. And the ones still alive were trying to fit in the group.
Bellamy and Clarke sat side by side on the grass, hands in hand, her head resting on his shoulder. They watched the sun rise and its rays of light on the water in front of them, creating a magnificent work of art.
"This is it." Clarke said, breaking the silence. "This is the Earth I've imagined all along."
He smiled, remembering what she had drawn.
"You weren't too far from the truth."
"There was only one thing missing." She said, looking up at him.
He smiled, grabbed her chin between his fingers and kissed her softly. Each kiss was more perfect than the previous one. Every time their lips touched, they knew it was meant to be. It had been such a shame for them to part. It would never happen again.
Finally separating after a few minutes, Clarke asked him: "What are we going to do now?"
They both turned, surprised, when a voice exclaimed behind them: "Whatever the hell we want."
Madi approached, a smile on her face, looking at them with a trace of amusement in her eyes. She came to sit near them, looking at the landscape. Clarke smiled, taking her little hand in hers. Sitting beside the two most important people in her life, she finally had hope. Maybe life could now be what they've dreamt of it being.
Bellamy smiled at Madi and put his arm around Clarke's shoulders.
"Whatever the hell we want."
The end.
