Chapter 19

.

William's statement took agent Fredo by suprise. William was 14 years older than Angel, the idea that he could somehow be her father confused him.

.

Gary: You're going to have to start from the beginning because, I'm confused.

William: So was I. It started in the summer of 2001. In some ways I still look back on those days with nostalgia. But then my generation tends to think of anything before 9/11 as the good old days. I met Carmen then, she was interning at my father's company, and she was friends with my sister. Carmen even babysat for me a few times. I was 13, she was 18, naturally I had a crush on her. I told my father this, he said it was natural. He also told me that this would prepare me for heartbreak, because nothing could happen between me and her. But he was wrong, because something did happen one night. I didn't really know any better, didn't really understand why this was wrong. Carmen left just before the 9/11 attacks. For awhile I wondered if she had been in the towers. It was only later, that the shame came, the realization that I had been molested. I started attending support groups, that's where...

Gary: Where what?

Jane: It's actually where he and I met. I supposse we fell in love because of our similar experiences, similar wounds.

William: We told each other everything, including her past as a satanist. Then, last year, Angel e-mailed me, said she was my daughter. I was shocked, I never realized I had gotten Carmen pregnant. It was a shock, but I knew Angel wasn't responsible for the sins of her mother. Jane and I agreed to move here, I was planning a construction project but I didn't yet know the location, so I decided to come here.

Gary: Did you ever consider having Carmen prosecuted for what she had done to you?

William: I spoke to a lawyer, who told me that the statute of imitations had run out. I was ofcourse worried about Angel, and her sister. But Angel said her mother had never done that to her. I supposse Carmen is a heterosexual pedophile.

Gary: Did you start off planning to build a little community for convicted child-molestors?

William: No. Funding fell through, so Angel suggested that I sell them to these people. She wasn't wrong when she said that losing some was better than losing more money.

Gary: Any idea why she was in a "Bible Study with convicted child-molestors?

William: I honestly don't know.

Gary: Did Angel know about your wife's past?

William: Yes:

Jane: Excuse me?

William: She was upset about what her mother had done to me, I began telling her that people can change, wanted her to believe her mother had changed. I started mentioning people who had become better, C.P. Ellis, Joseph Rotbalt, Abby Johnson. And l told her what you had once done, how you became a better person. I told her never to tell anyone else

Jane: And I told you not to tell anyone, so we can't rule out the possibility that she told the person who ended up murdering her, and framing me I guess.

William: I'm truley sorry for that. I wish I could help.

Gary: Actually you can. If you'd like, we can do a DNA test, for both of you. Rule you out as suspects in her rape.

William: Can we do it now?

Gary: Ofcourse.

.

As the three of them were driving to doctor Hayward's office, the good doctor called Gary.

,

Gary: I'm bringing in a couple of people to be tested for the rape of Angel Flint.

Hayward: I was calling about the DNA actually. It took us awhile to figure it out. We took some of Angel's non-contaminated DNA for control tests, and compared it to the DNA under her fingernails. So far no matches. We realized that there isn't much contaminated DNA.

Gary: Explain this to me like I never went to medical school.

Hayward: If Angel was raped by someone, we'd expect foreign DNA. This DNA isn't as foreign as we'd expect. The only way that could happen, was if the other person was closely related, like a brother, or a father.
